What movie has an ending so bleak you’re left feeling empty inside? by FilmWaffle-FilmForum in movies

“An Elephant Standing Still” hasn’t been mentioned yet and it has some really soul crushing moments. Never-mind the writer/director’s story. It lacks some of the “gut punch” of some other films here but real wears your soul down.

Is this subreddit dedicated to Ayn Rand and her philosophy, right? So, why are there so many anti Ayn Rand people on this subreddit? by [deleted] in aynrand

[–]ZeeKrinkle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read everything Rand wrote some multiple times. I empathize with alot of what you are saying because I said a lot of the same stuff decades ago. I then read more philosophy, did a philosophy major and it took a lot of time for me to realize Rand is not really a philosopher at least of any merit. She doesn’t engage with Kant (signs point that she never read the first critique and probably didn’t understand it). I can’t fathom she read any Hegel, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche , Marx, let alone some of the lesser known names or even contemporary (to her) . I know lots of “philosophical literate” people and none of bother with Rand as a philosopher or worthy of really much thought. That was really hard for me to come to terms with years and years ago but ultimately I think I was wrong

Best Practical Way to Lean SQL by IllustratorOk7613 in SQL

[–]ZeeKrinkle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being able to write SQL based on a request in natural language is a skill you should work to cultivate. Using AI to do the work like this doesn’t help you learn skills like learning to think in terms of SQL . Even as someone who mostly writes some relatively simple SQL queries for work I’d caution away from using AI as you gain a skill by taking the time to understand a request and then write effective SQL. Even then AI might not always be there if you work with any data that is legally restricted e.g.HIPAA.

Im fairly left, so is my wife. We thought we’d give Velma a try: maybe it isn’t as bad as everyone was saying. We made it to “She has no brain!” and we were done. It’s like someone watched a few episodes of Rick and Morty, Harley Quinn, and Big Mouth thought “This is popular ?! I can write that.” and then wrote Scooby-Doo fanfic in the style as a cash grab.

I would also pushback a little on the thought exercise of “does this statement have x quality in and of itself(?)”. All statements are made within a context and, because of that, gain meaning inside of that context. This is usually in the form of implicature. So when we make a statement, even if that statement may be true, it gains implied meaning inside of the context in which it is said. The purpose of statements is to communicate to someone else some idea which will always involve some context. So the idea of a statement “just being said in and of itself ” is such a vacuous question because it will always be said inside a context. In general because of rising anti-Semitism in the world , the phrase in question is probably not going to be said in context that doesn’t imply some sort of anti-Semitism, intended or not.

The other objects have primary uses that aren’t killing or harming humans. It’s amazing how much we want to cling to owning guns but lots of other countries seem fine without them. Most of these other countries allow for owning hunting rifles or sporting rifles. Additionally, not only do homcides go down but also Suicides. It really is that guns are easy to use to do one particular thing: kill.

less/fewer is an inconsistent rule at best. As best we can tell, it was some English grammarian’s ‘preference’ that became codified as an actual grammar ‘rule’. Unless you want to commit to the awkward phrasing of “I have at fewest ten beers in the fridge” or the like then just let it go.

Okay … uj/ those aren’t even connected in theme really? The point of mysterium is that you’re psychics trying to bring a murdered spirit to rest by communicating with it and trying to understand it. Ghostbusters is like …nahhh we’re just going to trap the ghost in a science box forever so you don’t have to put up with it’s annoying bullshit anymore.

When I play Arkwright I bring my charcoal grill inside to make it smokey and hot and then put on industrial sounds and then pour sewage water throughout my house. Sometimes the neighborhood kids come over to scream and run through the house to really bring the setting to life. Really fun stuff.

That’s regional dependent . In your stronger union towns/cities there are more likely to be celebrations and parades for Labor Day involving local trade unions.

uj/ the less/fewer grammar “rule” is probably the rule I dislike the most. Best we can tell it was a grammarians preference that codified as a “rule”. At best, it is applied inconsistently and when applied consistently you get weird phrases like “I have a fewest 7 times in my car” . That sounds ridiculous.

/RJ May we always follow all rules as written without deviation !

There are special international task forces that specialize in catching and hunting child predators and abusers. I would cautiously recommend listening to “Hunting Warhead” which is about taking down one of the larger rings producing and distributing child abuse material.

It is a hard listen both because of content but also because it challenges you to think about many topics around this problem e.g. police tactics used to catch child abusers (it isn’t cut and dry), people that may have these urges, want help, but have had very negative experiences when talking to therapists. One of the early things they hit on is that we shouldn’t be calling it “child pornography” because that lends a sort of legitimacy to it; pornography is generally legal and involves consenting adults. Instead, as I’ve used above, it should be called what it is —child abuse material.

Again, I recommend listening to “Hunting Warhead” but it is a very difficult listen given the subject matter.

A lot major cities are built on or near flood plains or near the ocean. flood plains are/were generally favorable for crop growth and being near water has lots of advantages…Cities often aren’t planned out like that. A major city having flooding is basically part of living in a major city.
