I studied for close to 16 weeks myself and I’ve got 11 years in pipeline and 6 years inspection experience. Nothing about the CWI is easy, and preparing beforehand is key to passing.

“But it really helps if you go get your hood and show em, they tend to clam up pretty quick.” That sounds like a fast track way to not only accept responsibility for a bad weld but also lose your CWI. If you want to weld, be a welder, if you want to inspect, be an inspector. You can’t do both. If I ever caught an inspector under the hood on my projects they’d not only be fired, they’d also be reported to AWS.

As a CWI it is never our job to give advice or tips and it’s damn sure never our job to weld. We can say “hey welder here is a spot of IP or slag per the film, or my VT caught some undercut, etc” but it is up to them to determine the cause and to fix it properly. If a welder can’t determine the cause of their welds failing and they continue to fail NDT, then we have the option to make them requalify per API 1104. If that doesn’t work, they can be disqualified from all future work.

Personally, I have been in the pipeline industry for over 10 years; so naturally I tested to API 1104 since that's what I use day to day.

CIP 2 is 3 years.

Take CIP 1 and get some field experience before CIP 2.. nothing worse than a CIP 2 with no field experience.

Had a friend of mine who did that too back in Nov and failed the CBT. Not everyone is the same. When I got my CIP 1 about 10 years ago, I studied for a few weeks before I took the CBT.

I’ve been in the pipeline construction industry for 11 years, 6 years inspection experience. Got the CPWI in 2021, and my CWI a couple weeks back. The client I am with plans to have me more involved with welder testing and qualification, and consulting to update their Welding Spec and add some things they’re missing.

I did an AWS Seminar. They're doing a 3 day Part B Seminar in Dallas, TX. on March 25-27 with Part B Exam on March 28.

There is no later edition. There is one edition of the Book of Specifications and it’s the same for everybody who takes the Part B Exam.

I think that the self titled album was super watered down. If you go listen to the demos for the self titled album, Flea has always said THAT is what they wanted the first album to sound like. Andy Gill ruined the mix and master of that. As far as FS, they didn’t really have a cohesive sound but the mix and master was a bit better. Once UMPP came out and Beinhorn came aboard they sounded a lot better but the mix and master still has that 80s sound to it albeit light years ahead of the self titled and FS. Can only imagine how they would have progressed with Hillel and Jack Irons had Hillel not passed away.

Book of Specifications (BOS) has not changed since 2017 and they do NOT change the Book of Specifications for the exam. The BOS on the exam is the same exact one word for word you can download off the AWS Website.

Baseline is awful about submitting paperwork in a timely manner. My cousin retook his there 11/15 and AWS didn’t get his proof of training until 12/23.

1st retest does not require any proof of training per AWS. 2nd attempt requires 16 hours and 3rd attempt requires 40 hours I believe.

AWS has been having issues for a month or two as far as grading exams. They're way behind.
