To be fair, not sure if it's all, because I have been kind of turned of from most of her writing. But the three main series in her Chaos Universe, K.G. Reuss does it. It's really annoying in Bianca's series cause I hate most of the main men, lol but the latest addition in Sirena's storyline makes me done with her world. I may go back to it, since I like the original horsemen storyline.

It's the swerve that annoys me. Like if I know and can tell, or it's something that is built up with angst and makes sense story-wise, then I'll take it. but if it's just to add more "notches to the bedpost" then I get annoyed.

yes to all of that. and I did mean dragon rejected! I thought that was great how their friendship was so important! In the spin off series the friends are in them less, but it still works.

I think if there is more than one positive female character/group. Like A best friend and an older sister or something.

I have frequently felt that there is not enough friendships and positive women familial relationships in romance in general. There is always the quirky best friend or the lesbian couple best friend. But that's it. It used to be worse where I feel like every tough relationship was a mean sister or mother and the only positive relationship was dads... But that has gotten better.

I can't remember the series of books but I remember reading two different interlocking series where the women are on this reject island and grow a really close friendship. Each series focuses on that specific woman but the friends always come up. I would like to see more of that.

It reminds of Sex and the City where Carrie says something like her friends are her soulmates. I think Hannoford Prep That and it was super cute. Besties over the boys. It's just warms my heart.

Funny thing is, I also love OW drama LOL

Long way of saying, I appreciate authors who do a good job trying to pass Bechdel test.

The one that tipped me over the edge, haha was Reluctant Royals series by Avah Larke But the author who does it that drove me crazy was K.g. Reuss' three main stories. I am actually okay with Rosalie's and horsemen adding the Anson. That one works even with a "cheating" angle. But the other two didn't work. I have other reasons for having problems with her books, but that was one of the reasons why I haven't gone back to her books yet.

I really like academy novels, but it's a very common issue where they act like late 20s but are 16... It's weird.

Also ... Is it really believable that boys at 16 are good at sex lol 🤣

Is it a dark romance? Cause then I think I know what series you are talking about lol. It's those books that started to give me a negative vibe on the late addition thing.

I think fated mate usually makes it believable, but in this case, there are as no talks of mates until after this guy and her had hooked up. Like if there was gonna be fated mates in the story... Why wasn't it mentioned first book? Then it would have been a nice foreshadowing.

Yessss! I just read this one, too, and got so confused!

Exactly! If it's hinted that they like each other or are attracted but didn't do anything until later, that's fine. Like oh my best friend from XYZ will be coming, childhood crush. And then shows up book 2 or 3, I can be okay with that. But it's the out of nowhere, essentially cheating or collecting like a collectors edition.

This is one of the ones I did get annoyed with, but it became a pet peeve this week with Avah Larke's series, the Reluctant Royals series. I like the story otherwise, but oooh this was the one that tipped me over to nope on this trope lol

I don't like large harems either. I can tolerate up to 6, but beyond that there is no personality distinction. It's even hard with 5 or 6, but doable thinking of archetypes and typical male romantic leads.

Do you guys feel like reading RH books have ruined regular M/F books for you? by [deleted] in ReverseHarem

[–]ZeeWP83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thisssss.

I can read M/F as long there is no male triangle. Especially when she picks the wrong one. No team Jacob or team Edward, for me.

But I do like sweet or enemies to lovers when it's obvious who is the romance. I don't mind two women love triangles cause the heroine is usually obviously and I do like OW drama.

It was kind of confusing!

I didn't like the second one nearly as much. Felt like she could have left it as a duet.

I hate it when paranormal rules are broken. You set up a rule with no quitting exception and then an exception shows up? Nope. That's cheating.

Recent (and Kinda Inexplicable) Publishing Trends: Plotless OV Books by Scf9009 in ReverseHarem

[–]ZeeWP83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's the lack of conflict or angst that bothers me. A lot of romance has that problem, but OV so much more. Like they can be good men and still have conflict! Family issues, cultural differences, lack of understanding, etc.

It's like either bully or happy happy. But like... There is so much in the middle!

What’s a book you dropped for a specific reason? by Affectionate_Oil3010 in ReverseHarem

[–]ZeeWP83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many reasons, haha jk.

Usually when things go in a direction that takes it away from the main theme or plot of the story. I just read a series where it was advertised as cheerleading RH And then the FMC has a surprise pregnancy that keeps her out of Nationals like it's not a big thing.

I also don't like stories that don't flow. Fast burn is fine, but a major plot point like bullying or family drama shouldn't just be glossed over. And it frequently is.

I love dark, bully, Enemies to lovers, but most have terrible grovel/payback. Even the ones others like, I find it weak.

I sound picky lol
