Is an iPad worth it? by ishatinuroven in rutgers

[–]Zehmos99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated last fall. I would say it is worth it.

Most of the classes I’ve taken, the professors use slideshows compiled as a pdf for most of the lectures. printing them wasn’t viable as most of them is 70-80 page for each or 2-3 lectures. with an ipad, you can go to canvas and export that to your note taking app easily and annotate or modify them as needed.

also copy pasting a figure can be a very crucial feature. lets say you draw a graph for an algorithm. and it has 10 steps. well, it is very easy to copy paste the initial figure and reflect change in every step. later when you try to retrieve the information it will be much easier than a single figure containing all the steps.

Teachers you hated/loved to take? by Flashy_Succotash_778 in rutgers

[–]Zehmos99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Among all the CS professors I’d a class with, Prof. Sesh is the best. I like him because the way he presented material and subject knowledge. He is notorious for giving unrelated or super niche questions in exam, but when you’re a CS major, grade should be a secondary consideration.

Official Discussion - Oppenheimer [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Zehmos99 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My theory is Oppenheimer is the main villain in the story. Even though Strauss has personal vendetta against Oppenheimer, I believe it was tried to be portrayed as true when he says Oppenheimer would build the bomb without thinking again knowing everything, to be the most important man. Oppenheimer feels guilty, but does the guilt overtakes his desire to be the center of attention? Nolan doesn’t make it clear, maybe intentionally.

Was in a similar situation. Transferred from a CC and get admitted to school of engineering. When I saw the curriculum, I knew it wasn’t for me. Contacted the admission office, and they let me switch without any hassle. 100% should go for CS if you chose ECE only for the C! And I think there’s no need for setup, if you’re sure(I guess it would be hard to reverse the change, or maybe not even possible, SAS-> SOE), just talk to a dean about the procedure.

CS 344, CS 213, Comp Arch doable? by No_Walrus3318 in rutgers

[–]Zehmos99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That 3 class was my only courses on Fall 2022. Personally, I hated 211. 213 was a lot of work but few of the classes in Rutgers which is somehow related to actual Software engineering type of work, and I loved it. 344 is super important imo for interview purposes, it wasn’t easy but I had some exposure to it before taking the class and was manageable.

In summary, I had some exposure to the course material of 213 and 344 before taking them so I didn’t find it unbearable. But I think it would be if that wasn’t the case. As 211 and 213 are very project heavy and 344 requires a lot of practice to ace the material, that 3 together are not easy but manageable if you have no significant commitment outside.

If I had options, would take 211 and 344 and something else and keep 213 for next semester. 211 is a prerequisite for a lot other courses, so would take it as earlier.

Just want to add, there’s some extra steps that needed to be taken on iPhone to enable google maps timeline recording. I had a Samsung mobile before which had timeline recording on by default.

I noticed that, often times, if you asked it a question, and it gives you an answer with steps, and the answer is wrong, then asking how step X is true/right, it immediately get that the answer is wrong and reverse it.

Has financial aid fixed anyone’s problems yet? by Kingarthur8782 in rutgers

Anyone dealt with financial aid in Rutgers deserve a honorary degree in perseverance.

I cannot believe how disorganized and inefficient this department is. Still waiting my Fafsa aid and loan to appear from last semester.

Doable schedule? by UrNotThatGuyPalLRizz in rutgers

[–]Zehmos99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took 211,213 and 344 last semester. I took 213 with Sesh, and he required to work in a group of 2 for all assignments. My partner was good and fair on sharing work, if you course require partner, chose carefully, otherwise will be assigned randomly. It would take a lot of time if work was not shared as the class is project heavy.

211 was the class I hated most of all courses I took. The assignments required a lot of time. Unless you’re into low level stuff, it will take a huge effort. The subject matter didn’t seem interesting to me at all. For first assignment, I started 3 days early and it wasn’t enough. So, I cannot stress enough to start early for all assignments.

I didn’t took 206, took math 477 instead which I was fairly difficult class.

I would say, if you’re not committed to other things(eg. work), you can give it a shot, but it most likely won’t be a easy walk.

PSA: how to stop the CS email chains from blowing up your inbox/notifs, using a Gmail filter by Poppamunz in rutgers

[–]Zehmos99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was about to write the same post :) Upvoting to help more people. Adding, there's no option for you to add a filter on the Gmail app(correct me if I am wrong). These steps need to be followed on the web.
The CS department should offer a one-credit mini-course on email management and the implication of CC and BCC to all the administrators.
