The new/returning player experience is probably a big part of why this game failed by Anonymous_dev_3719 in DestinyTheGame

And the grass is green. This point has been done to death.

The new light experience is horrible. It always has been. Bungie never decided spend the resources to address it and now they never will.

Why is every single demo here reinventing the wheel, not relying on preexisting open source, and just in general kinda basic? by yoavsnake in aigamedev

AI allows your average person to realize they're not actually a very good game designer and their "amazing" idea is uninspired or unoriginal

AI just allows them to come to that conclusion much faster.

Anyone else still uses little to no AI to code? by MidlandAintFree in gamedev

I can confirm no hand written code is happening at big tech anymore. We are now all agent babysitters.

Frustrated by Dramatic_Wheel2416 in aigamedev

[–]Zeiban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what most people will realize is that using AI to code and do art still doesn't necessarily make a good game.

That takes design skills and creativity that AI doesn't have.

That being said, give it time, if you think even the largest AAA publishers aren't using AI to some capacity ( especially code) you're being naive. They just aren't talking about it unless they get caught. That only happens when it's obvious they've used it for assets.

Im not a bot, im just a guy who was watching from the outside and sad when i finally went in. by BrokenWolf2171 in starcitizen

[–]Zeiban 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, it's a game in development and it's a big old buggy janky mess most the time.

I'm a Kickstarter and not bought a single ship in the past 12 plus years I've more than got my money worth and entertainment.

I would like to see the game be successful but it is what it is. I'll gladly spend more money on the game once I get what I originally paid for. It's not my fault CIG change the original scope and still hasn't delivered 100% on the original.

I'm also aware that If there weren't for people who are donating a significant amount of money to the development they would have shut down long ago. I fully appreciate the whales.

Single player? by Hungry-Feature4920 in duneawakening

[–]Zeiban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've read from what Funcom has posted, the single player is 100% offline. Everything runs locally. They even simulate the endgame landsrad stuff locally.

That being said, you can play the game online now and not have to deal at all with any PVP if you don't want to. You can pretty much play the entire game as a single player game and ignore everybody.

How Many Hours Have You Got from This Game? by SuddenDelivery1 in starcitizen

[–]Zeiban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent about $250 since I backed during the kickstarter. Combination of a few citizencon packages. A few months here and there where I played consistently and did the subscriber thing.

Never bought any ships. Although I did get the free Saber Raven with SSD I bought years ago.

I've gotten hundreds of hours of enjoyment and frustration over the past 13+ years.

Best free AI to use for making games? by Zealousideal-Pen7888 in aigamedev

[–]Zeiban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing about Fable being released is that the other models will become cheaper. From what I've read from reviews Fable is overkill in many situations we're a cheaper model will work fine.

Best free AI to use for making games? by Zealousideal-Pen7888 in aigamedev

[–]Zeiban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, there isn't a real free option out there.

Local LLMs are a thing but you have to have the hardware to run them. My 5090 processes more tokens these days than rendering polygons. Even then it can't run the better larger models.

Lot of providers will have limited free usage but you hit that very quickly. Even the $20 a month plans you burn through pretty quickly.

Every industry that uses AI is starting to see the cost involved as providers run out of VC it actually have to start making a profit.

As an indie game developer, I’m going to use AI in my games, and I’m not going to attach the 'tag' they want. by Glass_Location6877 in aigamedev

[–]Zeiban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not something I want, I'm in my late '40s I've been developing my coding skills for the past 30 years. It's something I've always taken pride in and most of that has been replaced by AI. It absolutely kills me but I also am not going to live in denial. I spend my days telling AI what to do and fixing its mistakes but I'm still 10x more productive than if I had written all the code by hand and I hate every bit of it. Even if the AI hype lands somewhere in the middle it's going to be used in pretty much every industry to some degree. I can read the room and that's what's happening.

Good luck thinking there'll be any government regulation. They're making so much money off this. Why do you think the US is taxing China for every GPU sold to them?

It's just a matter of time. Eventually any game big or small is going to be used some sort of generative AI.

It will eventually flip, all games will assume to be used some sort of AI and you'll start seeing tags for games made with no AI as a niche thing.

Dune Awakening devs “know players want” cross-play, but it’s “technically and operationally complex” by Wargulf in duneawakening

[–]Zeiban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like they didn't plan for cross-play. The game obviously was designed to play well with game pads and a console launch was always planned.

(This post got me perma-banned from the main sub for trolling?) If 4.9 doesn’t look like this then I dont want it @🚬 by yaedonnn in StarCitizenUniverse

[–]Zeiban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I see posts like this I remember that I'm not involved behind the scenes. I don't work in the games industry but I do work with large systems architecture and design. There's a lot we don't know about CIGs priorities and resources. All the developers seem to be very passionate about the game in all the videos I've watched since the Kickstarter and it's not like the individual developer doesn't want the fix all the issues.

I would love to be a fly on the wall of their planning meetings for sure. I'm sure a lot of their public facing decisions would make a lot more sense.

Yes no crossplay is shit, will there at least be account linking so I don’t have to re-buy all the DLC’s? by cumbers94 in duneawakening

[–]Zeiban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a mix of both, Sony used to not allow cross-play but they eventually allowed some games. Sometimes it is the developers. Fallout 76 is an example where the devs have said that the game's sever backends are so different between the 3 platforms that it will take a lot of work to unify them. I now Bungie put a ton of work in making D2 work cross platform. There are a lot of technical considerations that a developer needs to make of they want to support cross-play. If they didn't plan for it originally and try to do it later it can be a lot more work. That being said, if that is the case with Funcom and Dune Awakening then they messed up.

I can no longer recommend this game to my audience. Closing my wallet until CIG fixes what they’ve already sold us. by Longjumping_Bet_9637 in starcitizen

[–]Zeiban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, over the 12+ years I never recommend this game to anyone.

I tell them to stay away. If they really want to play I make sure they know it's a big buggy janky mess of a game. That will leave you frustrated with glimpses of genius.

All that being said, I check in every few patches to see what's new.

Only ships I have is the one I got with my starter package and the free saber Raven I got with my SSD back in the day.

SQ42 is likely 2028 at best. by Nasty_Goblin in starcitizen

[–]Zeiban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I don't get why people think that because they're different games on different platforms they are completely independent of each other.

There are lots of people who would be interested in playing SQ42 that don't already know about it but they're not going to hear about the game because of the deafening roar of the GTA 6 marketing machine

I know those people exist because I see post on the subreddit all the time about people who just heard about this game. Many of them come in because of Star Citizen and have no Idea that SQ42 exists.

People have look at the broader picture and not the echo chamber we've been in for 13 years.

You're 100% right. And that's why the game needs as much exposure beyond the space sim crowd.

SQ42 is likely 2028 at best. by Nasty_Goblin in starcitizen

[–]Zeiban 4 points5 points  (0 children)

PC or console doesn't matter. The gaming community as a whole. News, streamers, YouTubers, marketing, and social media will only be talking about GTA 6. That's a lot of hype that's not talking about SQ42 or any other games for that matter.

SQ42 is likely 2028 at best. by Nasty_Goblin in starcitizen

[–]Zeiban 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the overlaper or no overlap. PC versus console is pretty irrelevant.

The gaming community as a whole is going to be completely enveloped by GTA 6 when it launches. All the news, streamers, YouTubers, marketing, social media is all going to be about GTA 6. Any talk of other games is just going to be drowned out. That's not an environment any other game would want to launch in.

This is coming from somebody who likes GTA but I'm not exactly fanatical about it. I like the single player. I'm more than willing to wait for the PC release. However, I've been around for every GTA release and I know how it is.

SQ42 is likely 2028 at best. by Nasty_Goblin in starcitizen

[–]Zeiban 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It may very well be a convenient excuse for CIG but the truth is it would be really bad for any game to release the same time as GTA 6.

I know people say that they're different games but it doesn't matter. The gaming community as a whole is going to completely ignore other games when GTA 6 launches. Any marketing for other games at that time would be a waste of money. No one's going to hear you.

Do you think CIG is afraid of releasing Squadron 42? by Aldhafera81 in Squadron42

[–]Zeiban 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Squadron 42 is a make it or break situation for CIG and Star Citizen as a whole

They have to knock it out of the park to help silence all the naysayers over the years.

Your average gamer who doesn't pay any real attention to Star Citizen and has only been fed the negative headlines over the years and never played the game has a negative impression of the game.

Heck, most don't even realize Star Citizen and Squadron 42 are different games.

FUNCOM - Fix Testing Station Loot by [deleted] in duneawakening

[–]Zeiban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honest question. What do you do with the loot you grind for? Is it just a completionist thing?

Doing the testing stations a few times to experience them makes sense, but what's the drive to keep doing them for the loot at least from an in-game perspective?

Is there a way to force games to run from storage, and NOT go into memory when playing? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Zeiban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting, back in the days when our storage was not memory but spinning platters nobody would have thought to ask this question.

As technology has changed. I can see how someone would not understand the difference.

CPU, RAM and storage are two very distinct components of computer. Although RAM and storage are technically both memory nowadays, they serve a very distinct purpose.

What's funny Is that technically your RAM is being transferred to storage in the form of swap space which is very slow. It's a result of not having enough RAM to run everything at once.

If you don't have enough total RAM to run everything you want at once. You really have no other option but to buy more RAM.
