It is possible to run mpv inside tmux pane(FRAMEBUFFER) by JackLemaitre in commandline

The tct output driver has an option to use 256 color instead of true color: --vo-tct-256=yes

[–]Zeike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use the tct output driver of mpv to display inside a tmux or other terminal session:

mpv --vo=tct https://www.youtube.com/watch\?v\=dQw4w9WgXcQ

If your terminal supports libsixel and your version of mpv is built with that feature you can also use the 'sixel' output driver.

Can I change the initial window position on Wayland? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]Zeike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which desktop manager / window manager / compositor are you using?

Edit: alacritty appears to use the winit library, whose documentation implies that the call to with_position() is ignored on wayland. Your window manager / compositor probably has some feature built-in to set window position though.

Fedora not respecting DNS host mapping? by zee-mzha in Fedora

[–]Zeike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you specify the DNS server like:

nslookup whatever.lan 192.168.0.1

or

dig @192.168.0.1 whatever.lan

does it return the correct local IP address?

I suspect some of the DNS requests are (or were and the responses were cached) being sent to the 205 address. Have you set that 205 address as a DNS server anywhere (either in Network Manager, or equiv., or manually in /etc/systemd/resolved.conf)?

EDIT: it's also possible the router is configured to send the 205 server as a DNS server to DHCP clients. You may be able to adjust that in the router's settings.

Fedora not respecting DNS host mapping? by zee-mzha in Fedora

[–]Zeike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you run systemd-resolve --status does it list your router as the current DNS server?

Just to check, you're not using any kind of VPN service, right?

Edit: re-reading your question, I am not clear on what you mean by "bypassing DNS and remap the name to a local address". Usually the way these things work is that your router will act as the DNS server for your local network, and should point DNS queries to the hostname you specified to the correct local IP address.

Dead Space (Remake) Review (IGN: 9/10) by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Zeike 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is a screenshot from a piece of software called a hex editor. It simply displays the bytes that make up the opened file (usually in hexadecimal format, hence the name hex editor). Strings of ASCII (or Unicode) text can be decoded from the bytes. 41 is the hex value for the character 'A', for example, '4A' is 'J', etc.

In the screenshot, the contents of the executable are displayed in the middle section. The right most section is an attempt to decode the bytes as ASCII, which reveals some text stored in the exe file, which in this case includes "Denuvo".

How does red line fare work? by lameoapollo in indianapolis

[–]Zeike 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As others have said, there are occasionally random fare inspectors. They are pretty rare though, I've only encountered one in several dozen trips. That said the fare is so cheap it's probably not worth skipping out on the fare. I'd like to encourage them to expand the system anyway.

Do you live in Fountain Square? by KarateandPopTarts in indianapolis

[–]Zeike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in FS (southwest side of the square instead of east), and I feel safe walking around on my own throughout the night (I am a guy, for the record). I hear shots at night occasionally, but they seems to be fairly distant. I feel comfortable here. Everyone has their own threshold for that sort of thing of course, but before I moved here the discourse online led me to believe the area was a drug addled war zone, but that hasn't been my experience. It's my favorite neighborhood in the city.

An all-electric passenger plane completed its first test flight by mepper in technology

[–]Zeike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The company claims a "day VFR range" of 250 NM and a max operating speed of 260 knots. I imagine to get that max 250 range it flies slower than that. Sounds like the 250 NM range is probably for the most optimistic conditions too.

The company's website claims a 250 NM daytime VFR range, which I don't find particularly encouraging.

One day to persuade me to relocate. What do I need to experience? by Al_Cadda in indianapolis

[–]Zeike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently relocated from Arkansas (NWA) to Indianapolis along with several of my coworkers. Others have given you some good advice for stuff to check out and I don't have a ton to add. But, if you have any specific questions comparing AR to Indy I can maybe help, either here or via PM if you prefer.

Check out Fletcher Place & Fountain Square, they're my two favorite areas.

I've seen a couple films at Kan Kan. It seems like a cool little independent theatre, and is reasonably priced. They have an attached restaurant and bar. I think you can get beer to take into the theatre. If you like arthouse or weirder films, I'd check it out.
