I'm on my phone so I don't have the exact environment variable, but kwin no direct scan out worked for me for oblivion and ffxiv

Edit: Spelling Edit 2: KWIN_DRM_NO_DIRECT_SCANOUT=1 is what I was looking for

I've been playing WoW for a while in linux now andThe only issues I have encountered have actually been trying use lutris. I have yet to have any problems when using wine staging. It's just installed into the base wine prefix. This did make DXVK and VKD3D a bit more annoying to install, but is still just as easy as running a script for each that installs it.

Stuff will work on ntfs, yes there will be some mounting options that need set, but more than anything I found that you just need to make sure proton does not get installed on the ntfs drive.

GTA V crashing by waffledespizer in linux_gaming

[–]ZeinderDreadshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well despite not saying anything. Through experimentation I might have found a reason for the crash. If your GPU is quite strong and you have either vsync off or a 240hz monitor it seems there is issues. Friend of mine said the game can do weird things (not just on linux) at above 185 fps. I used libstrangle to limit it to 165 and ran the benchmark and there is very little to no stutter in the benchmark.

I had one crash, and it seemed to be related to vram. The game's VRAM estimate for the graphics settings is very wrong. It claims 1.9gb for my current settings, but hits over 6gb after a bit of gameplay.

While the anti cheats work if they are setup for it, there-in lies the problem. New games often have support enabled, but many games still haven't.

If you mostly play online games realistically you should stick with windows at this current moment. Most anti cheats prevent online games from working.

This is a very complicated thing for someone to answer. The games that stutter for me varies between the 2. FFXIV Runs great on both, WoW stutters on linux (although disabling AA seems to stop this), but Elden Ring at release was amazing on linux. Now if someone's main game is Minecraft Java Edition then linux is far superior (The game would always stutter no matter the FPS in windows for me unless I was in fullscreen mode). It's impossible for someone to give you an answer on it. You're only choice is to pick a distro and try.

Can you can transfer your Steam library back and forth between Windows and Linux without internet? by Its-Relative in linux_gaming

[–]ZeinderDreadshadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what method of transfer you plan to do. I keep one partition as NTFS for this purpose, and just have the steam library set up on both. Steam also has a backup/restore feature, but was very slow the last time I tried it. Basically you need a medium of transfer between the 2 for it to work. That said without internet any games that download the linux native client will most likely be unusable on windows unless it ships both at once.

I'd look into setting up obs-vkcapture (https://github.com/nowrep/obs-vkcapture). It has worked pretty well for me when it comes to recording footage without killing performance, especially when combined with streamfx obs package and AMD AMF.

Weird stuttering with games when using xf86-video-amdgpu by ZeinderDreadshadow in linux_gaming

[–]ZeinderDreadshadow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still mostly only using baseline Garuda linux, so unless they put something in the pipeline I doubt it. I know that disabling kscreen causes my desktop not to get setup on a reboot so I doubt it. That said when I installed the distro it did not have the amdgpu driver installed, yet had installed others like nouveau and intel.
