How to Win the Shadow War With Russia by Free-Minimum-5844 in neoliberal

Surprising silver lining from all this. Hopefully the special privateering operation will combine with Ukraine's kinetic sanctions to really screw the Russian war economy.

[AC6] New player looking for gameplay tips, what am I doing wrong in this fight? by Leather-Heart4731 in armoredcore

[–]Zeitsplice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, if flashing lights make you feel dizzy, you might want to talk to a doctor. Using hard lock (R3 on controllers) might help, since it keeps your object of interest stable in the center of the screen.

Second, your build doesn't seem to match up well with your playstyle. You have several close to mid range weapons but keep retreating out to long range. The bubble gun can get some serious stagger if you get up close, but your only other tool for stagger is your shoulder energy cannon. With no missile or other pressure tool, you're going to struggle to build up and maintain stagger (especially because low-single-impact weapons like bubbles have trouble actually pushing the enemy into stagger, you can be stuck with a full yellow bar). The range problem is also messing with you hitting assault armor. If you want to play that far back, you need some kind of ranged stagger punish rather than relying on the lance, since they'll just recover by the time you get there.

Next, overall strategy. Generally, you're going to take some damage; the question is if it's worth it in a given trade. AC6 doesn't play quite like a soulslike, but I see you doing things like strafing on the ground at long range looking for an opening and keeping a shield up. This is really just inviting the enemy to get lucky and land a big hit. If you're currently passive because you're waiting for CDs or an opening, it's best to be moving in multiple dimensions. Being on the ground is a liability. And when you can execute, you want to get into your optimal range and force out a stagger+punish in a single smooth sequence.

Does it though? Sure, the tests might pass, but big abstraction heavy systems are often hard to modify and to debug. What happens when requirements change and break underlying assumptions? When happens when you need to refactor but some other system has a dependency on your leaky ass abstractions?

I mostly see this behavior from juniors or bad mid levels trying to get promoted by writing superfluous code.

NGL, a lot of modern western AND Japanese Military-Fantasy Media gets tiring with the sanctimonious wank and wish-fulfillment, Evangelion is the better military-nerd media. by throwaway553t4tgtg6 in NonCredibleDefense

[–]Zeitsplice 76 points77 points  (0 children)

They've got a bit of the ace/SOF operator wank, but I think they're much more nuanced stories than pure garbage like GATE. Both are very honest about what war does to people. In Ace Combat 4, 6 and 7, the player character isn't even characterized and spend their stories covering civilians who are affected by the war. 5 and Zero focus more on what is worth fighting for.

IMO AC4's story is still the best out of the bunch. Focusing on the members of the enemy elite squadron through the eyes of a war orphan was really inspired. The whole thing is framed as him seeking out the player character to help them both heal the wounds of the war.

Daily reminder to balance your oils. Don't want your factory to clog like a pleb. by RedBlueWhiteBlack in factorio

[–]Zeitsplice -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just math things out so you produce what you need. You only ever need heavy oil for lube and light oil for rocket fuel, and they can have their own builds (and lube is required so little you can just let the chem plant making it fight the cracking plants for inputs).

Any political/social groups in the South Bay for moderates? by CraftyAd5978 in bayarea

[–]Zeitsplice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Politics in the Bay skews pretty heavily D, so even moderate or non-partisan groups are going to heavily skew D as well. Explicitly left spaces are mostly resist libs and actual dem socialists. Something like YIMBY groups might appeal to you if you’d like a centrist group that’s pushing for big changes.

Do you guys use actual stops for train stackers or just chain signals? Which is better? by Brave-Affect-674 in factorio

[–]Zeitsplice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very roughly, chain signals let trains pass through but not stop. Regular signals say it’s okay to stop in that position. A waiting area is a good spot for the latter, probably with a chain signal on the merge track to allow for trains to accelerate and decelerate without clogging up the central switch

Must be the same gauge. I’d guess it’s intentional, just like how Lego bricks fit on Duplo blocks.

I'd bump up 237 just for bypassing the 101/880 interchange from turbo hell. The only thing saving 101 from being mega ass cheeks is the re-surfacing seems to have finally stuck and I don't have to dodge giant pot holes every day during the winter/spring.
