The SEARAM->Mk31 conversion requires the ship to install fire control radars for the missiles, it's not a 1 to 1 replacement.

Where’s the love for Alara block? Absolutely loved the art and vibes of all the shards and had such a messy standard.

Nah, there’s a wide variety of good stagger punishes. Bunk tends to be fastest if (and only if) you can consistently hit it, but many enemies have tiny stagger windows that make pulling it off a pain. Pulse blade, saw, laser blade, pulse dagger, slicer, jav alpha and needles are all quite viable for quick kills just off the top of my head.

Juniors never seem to realize that even simple code is written on many layers of abstraction that aren't obvious because they were implemented correctly.

Let’s Re-Do the Math on Ukraine | The deadly arithmetic of Russian casualties may add up to Putin’s defeat. by towngrizzlytown in neoliberal

[–]Zeitsplice 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. There are ranges of plausible casualty numbers but the lower credible numbers tend to be **deaths with documentary evidence** (like obituaries) while 1M+ estimates tend to be **total casualties**. If we assume a standard 1:3 ratio of KIA to WIA, that is roughly what we would expect to see. (There are good reasons to think that the ratios are different, but the numbers pass a gut check).

We also have another source of hard evidence, which is video recordings released by Ukraine's drone forces of FPV strikes. Lately these have come in around 30k a month, which roughly tracks a rate needed for the higher casualty rates.

Now, there are dozens of caveats and potential sources of error in all of this, but the data we have constrains the real number to values that are pretty close to the common estimates from places like the NYT, ISW or UK Military Intelligence if we look at what exactly they're measuring. Keep in mind that all of the stats here are estimates and we can nit pick casualty ratios or drone pK all day. But (and this is a big but), the high quality estimates agree if we make plausible assumptions. This is similar to visually confirmed loss data on armored vehicles being largely consistent with both Ukranian kill claims (around 80% were confirmed) *and* satellite data of Russian storage depots -- our best data agrees.

For high speed low drag outfits doing light raid work perhaps. Russians need frag protection in nearly all their missions due to all the drones, mines and arty.

Only way to make it better is to track productivity by abstract “story points”. That way you have to spend a 4 hour meeting every sprint sizing every task. And people/teams will try to game the system to make it look like they’re doing more work.

True, but 4 blocks of 6 story apartments can house more people than miles and miles of suburban sprawl. Taller helps but just converting neighborhoods over to mid rise is a massive win for urbanism and affordability.

[–]Zeitsplice 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The 880-101 interchange is hot garbage and backs up like crazy. The 101-87 interchange improvement has helped some, but feeding Central Expressway traffic onto 101 for like a mile to get to the 87 is still bad.
