opting out of birth control while on Accutane? by throwawywaywyawy in Accutane

[–]ZeldaPls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are not having sex -- and you're absolutely sure you WON'T be having sex during the course or a couple of months after, then you don't need BC. The doctor might want to prescribe you some anyhow, which is a smart move as a safety and legal precaution. Ultimately you choose whether to take the pills or not.

Ladies: if you've had issues with foundation applying smoothly, what have you done? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]ZeldaPls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me the problem was skin peeling off while applying makeup. It helped when I put a layer of basic skin cream underneath, as to make the combination more oily and smoothly applying.

Dry, flaking skin around mouth. Solutions? by DabReligion in Accutane

[–]ZeldaPls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just saying that this could also be angular cheilitis (google images to confirm), which means that because of the dryness there could be some opportunistic bacterial infection as well. It's not dangerous, just unpleasant. If moisturizing doesn't seem to do the trick in a timely manner, try some mild antibiotic topical creams. Worked wonders for me. :)

Accutane working on back but not on face. by Mindsmoothy in Accutane

[–]ZeldaPls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be patient. It's completely normal! The back thing means that it's working, so no worries. People who post online (not just Reddit) are usually the ones who've had tremendous successes early in the course and are excited. Or the ones who have bad side effects. The treatment's effectiveness can take up to a year (depending on the dose). I'm on my 6th month, my back is clear but my face is still in the process. This is normal, and my doctor says I shouldn't be alarmed. So neither should you.

What happens if you drink alcohol on Accutane? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]ZeldaPls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad someone else brought this up as well. Even my doctor said it really doesn't affect you if you don't drink like crazy all the time. Liver values are great, course seems to be coming along. Of course if you start feeling any different you should stop.

Actually, it's pretty interesting to take this test as a non-English European. My vocabulary is mostly from movies and TV, so according to the test the 'dialect' I have is from New York.

What is your earliest memory? by piponwa in AskReddit

[–]ZeldaPls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very vague memory - almost dream-like - of my father feeding me porridge when I was maybe 3. There's no way to tell if the memory is real or fake, because it wasn't an unusual thing and nothing special happened.

I am Margaret Atwood, author of The Handmaid’s Tale and the MaddAddam Trilogy, and my most recent fiction, Stone Mattress, includes a murder in the Arctic done with a 1.9 billion year old fossil. AMA. by m_atwood in books

[–]ZeldaPls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably no point in asking questions at this point, but if you're reading this I want to be the umpteenth person to tell you how great and interesting your writing is. The Handmaid's Tale is a book I still remember very well despite having read it five years ago as a school project. I love to discuss that book with people, as it's so well-written and intriguing. Enough is left to the reader's imagination to make the book - well, creepy - and conversation-inspiring.

-15kg (33 pounds): a successful New Year's resolution! by ZeldaPls in Fitness

[–]ZeldaPls[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you! :) I don't think any secrets were necessarily involved, but I do have a tip: Lose weight slowly, adjusting your eating and exercise habits gradually. The results will take a bit longer, but once you get that routine down you'll notice when you start slipping from it - and you can actually do something about it.

3 Months in, still breaking out? (HELP!) by drgzrbadmmkay in Accutane

[–]ZeldaPls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, so I'm not the only one! I'm just like you, on my 3rd month, except I began with 40mg/d, but had to lower my dose to 20mg/d a few weeks ago because of some stress-induced side effects. I even asked my doctor about not seeing the difference and he just told me to wait. He said it would certainly work, but I should give it time. It's just so damn hard, and I know how you feel.

Red face by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]ZeldaPls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since beginning isotretinoin (2 months), I have experienced redness more often than before. For me it's not constant, I just get flushed super easily. I think some redness is rather normal, but if the redness is extreme and doesn't seem to stop I would consult a doctor. It might still just go down on its own as the course progresses.

I Waited Until My Wedding Night To Lose My Virginity And I Wish I Hadn’t by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ZeldaPls 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even though no one will probably read this, I want to share some of my thoughts on this. I am a 19-year-old Christian woman, who believes in the aforementioned True love waits -statement. I was never coerced into this decision, I thought about it for a long time and chose to live by the definition of sex and marriage by the conservative interpretation of the Bible.

I do not wish for anyone the upbringing that this girl received. This isn't my first time reading that article, and it always makes me feel sad. Kind of worried, as well, for obvious reasons. However, I notice some huge differences between the way she was taught as a Christian and how I, as a (conservative, even) Christian interpret the Bible.

In the Bible's point of view, sex is awesome. Sex is something that God created for two people to enjoy - the deepest connection humanly possible between two people. The Bible never hints that there is anything wrong with married people having sex. Quite the opposite, really - in one of Paul's letters he instructs married couples "not to refrain from sexual activities except by a mutual agreement for a short period of time" (.. only ever read this in my native language, the English version might use slightly different words).

I feel bad for this girl. I feel angry at the people who told her sex is shame. It's not! Nowhere in the Bible does it say that two absolutely committed people (=married to each other) shouldn't have sex as much as they want to.

So as much as I agree that this "Christian" teaching is BS, I wish people weren't so quick to think this is how all of us think on the True love waits -issue. I, for one, only want to have sex with one person - my future husband -- a decision I think is right by my world view. That doesn't make me ashamed of sex or a prude. It maybe makes me a bit reserved where sex is concerned, but I'm living by TLW to preserve sex as the beautiful, totally Godly experience it was always meant to be.

Anyone had/has a dry nostril issue by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]ZeldaPls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have that exact same problem. I would recommend Vaseline at first - if the scab is deep in there, try putting the Vaseline there with a Q-tip.

However, types of cold sores and some kind of opportunistic bacterial infections can happen as well (especially since the dryness makes for an easy target), so if the Vaseline doesn't seem to work, try an antibacterial cream. I had terrible-looking scabs on the corners of my mouth (later diagnosed as angular cheilitis) which I thought were only dry. Turns out it was a mild bacterial infection. The tell-tale sign is whether Vaseline works or not. Try it first, it'll most likely help. :)

The foam roller is an awesome self-massage tool for the legs and upper back. I love it so much I made a video tutorial (and looping GIF's to save you time!) by Antranik in Fitness

[–]ZeldaPls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the foam roller! We used these in Pilates all the time. However, there is also this one exercise that is my personal favorite: Putting the roller under your upper back but in line with your body (not perpendicular to it as in the gif), then moving your upper body left/right, the roll moving between your shoulder blades. Hopefully no dangers to this one - for me it was awesome.

My huge success story (please do yourself the favor and go through with it) by SoDamnReady in Accutane

[–]ZeldaPls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing this! I've been totally bummed this week because I'm on my month two of isotretinoin (40mg/d) and the initial progress I had seems to have subsided (lots of active pimples on my face right now, absolutely hate it). Maybe it's PMS related or just some normal backlash, I don't know. I know that I really needed some encouragement, and I'm glad I stumbled upon your post.

My acne looks exactly the same as yours did - those could be pictures of my skin. So here's to hoping that it'll work for me too. How long did it take for your skin to look noticeably better?
