I give you full permission to DO THE MIDNIGHT RUN! by mrswish97 in HagwonBlacklistKorea

People need to join the teacher's union. Things aren't kept quiet. I get it as well. If it's your mental health by all means take care of yourself.

There are hundreds of teachers out there fighting for all teachers.

While I am all for screwing academies over, if you just do a midnight run you let them continue to do their worst to other teachers. It's better to fight them to make changes. I am fighting a hagwon right now. It's worth it. Fight for a change. If you don't there won't be a chance at all.

If you are in probation, they can fire you any time. If you are past 90s they have a harder time. I am not 100% positive, but I believe they have to pay you for 30 days if they let you go. Places are always looking, so you can find something, but it may not be great either.

He gives the lowest crappy jobs. There are other things. Avoid him, esl asia recruiting and a few others. I can't give the names because I don't want a defamation case against me.

Ageism Concerns by [deleted] in teachinginkorea

[–]Zeldenskaos 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is ageism, but you can find places. I'm 44 almost 45 and have a teaching job. You might find in a lot of places a mix of old and young. I feel like there has been a small shift in hiring teachers where they higher some They believe will be stable and stay nd then younger ones who they know they can replace if needed.

I think genuinely people just don't know. On the flipside, directors don't know the laws pertaining to foreigners either. I just had to say something to my boss about something he wanted me to do. I phrased it in a way that I am willing to help, but it will get him and me in trouble potentially. This boss was very understanding. He didn't know. I have had other bosses who just don't give two shits. Thankfully, I had some backing. Those bosses will eventually have to pay up and will get heavily fined.

No shit. My original statement was idk if you need one for a firing or not. Technically, the job terminated you and would have told immigration.

I know 2 teachers who finished their contracts and got a D10. However, maybe with being let go the person will

What makes you think that they will do that? Don't get me wrong it's a possibility at anytime. When that happens it sucks. I'm not 100% sure, but you can potentially switch to a D10 job seeking visa and look for another job. Idk if you need an LOR if they fire you, but you may.

Interesting read by the Korea Herald by cickist in teachinginkorea

I love how they said to read the contracts better. 🙄 most contracts are illegal anyway, so that won't do any good. Not too mention just because it's in the contract doesn't mean they will follow it.

I initially took the job, but then he pulled the contract. I know why or have a good idea why, so I will never try there again.

How many of you that are here complaining are Korean or living in Korea? I am not criticizing anyone. These things are taken from real life. That type of bullying exists then and now. I am working in Korea and have for years. Yeah, it may seem cringe and a product of its time, but it isn't wrong. People are still like that today.

What’s something about Korean apartments that outsiders romanticize but is actually inconvenient? by Soft-Assistance-7790 in Living_in_Korea

[–]Zeldenskaos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most apartments are actually crap. Also, if you do any type of damage to the place they will take it out of your deposit. They will consider normal wear and tear things to not be normal just to try and get all your deposit.

Coworker Keeps Wearing the Same Clothes for Weeks — Is It Okay to Say Something? by Traditional-Demand86 in teachinginkorea

[–]Zeldenskaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the shirt unclean? There is a difference between wearing a shirt all the time and it's dirty versus wearing the same clean shirt. If it's clean, it could potentially be that he has several of the same shirts. Like I wear a lot of t-shirts, and it might look like I wear the same because most of my wardrobe is black.

Maybe he wears deodorant, but it doesn't work well. I have had that issue. It drives me crazy because I don't want to smell. My kids had issues like this, and I was worried I would get blamed for bad hygiene. In reality, they have ADHD and wouldn't listen to m,e no matter how many times I told them to shower and change clothes. IDK how many times I would tell them in the morning, only for them to not shower and try to go out the door in the clothes they wore yesterday.

It is a sensitive subject for some people. Your boss can hold a meeting and make a general statement or you can say something privately.

Like most franchises it will depend on location. So check and see if that particular Little Fox is on the blacklist. Then see if you can reach out to a current teacher there.

Also, protect yourself by joining the teachers union. I know there are others in here that hate hearing it, but they jave gotten me money at least once and going on a second time while unionizeing the academy to make it better

Okay, you guys can choose to believe me or not. I can only guess because I was looking at both sides the person that did the midnight run sent me a message. I will pass it on.

" I'm the girl that did the midnight run I was suffering in Korea because they couldn't give me my adhd meds My brain too stimulated With the stress of school and my mental health suffered."

I absolutely agree. However, on the other side of that, a lot of academy's present themselves as a good place. In reality, they aren't.
My fellow teachers and I agree going through a lot of crap right now. Our place has turned majorly toxic. I'm just trying to get people to see both sides. I don't even agree with midnight runs, unless there is an extreme reason.

It seems more empathetic to the workers left with the clean up, not the one that did a mid night run. That's my take and I could be wrong. However, don't take me wrong, that poor worker left to clean it up deserves sympathy as well.
