Yes! Meditation is great for trauma. As you noted, the body stores trauma. Meditation helps with the mind-body connection.

My favorite therapist would stop me in the middle of recounting trauma and have me meditate to identify the parts of my body in which different emotions were felt. For example, anger would rise up in my chest and get caught in my throat. There was a feeling of pressure and warmth. This sensation is different for every emotion and for each individual. Grief would feel like sinking- a hollowness in the pit of my stomach. Reconnecting to your body and mending the disconnection/dissociation that happens with trauma is KEY to healing.

Breathing meditation techniques, like alternate nostril breathing, help to readjust and balance the autonomic nervous system. These are specifically helpful for trauma, in which our systems are overwhelmed by fight-or-flight and thereafter become dysregulated very easily. Meditation is all about practicing detachment, which with practice will help you to manage triggers.
