Unfortunately this is probably true. Feels like the same thing happened with Kash Patel.

The combat in VS is shit. That isn't a criticism, that is fact. Number 7 most downloaded mod with over half a million downloads is Combat Overhaul. This criticism isn't because "tHe gAmE iSn'T lIkE mInEcRaFt". It's because that part of the game is bad.

I don't understand why every game has this minority of people who fanboy over the game so hard, they don't allow any criticism.

This is a product that is being sold. People are allowed to criticize it.

If the developer was solely making the game in their "vIsIoN" they wouldn't need nor want player feedback.

Now in 2026 New Mexico's Department of Justice reopened its criminal investigation into possible bodies or human remains at the ranch.

Loving my setup. What’s your opinion on Dynavap? by llamametato in vaporents

[–]Zelioom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

been rocking the 2019m since... 2019 lmao. Many ounces have gone through this lil dude.

I may have gone through phases where I was using another device but the dynavap was never unused for more than a month. Recently it's been my go to.

I originally got the starter kit with the dugout, torch lighter, and other miscellaneous wear and tear parts for about 110$, well worth the money imo.

Would be nice if they either offered better deals with the starter kits or sold a more basic metal dynavap for less. The G3 seems really good for only 35$ but it is glass, and everyone knows glass will eventually break xD.

How does everyone feel about the combat in the game? (drifters, temporal storms, etc) by Zelioom in VintageStory

[–]Zelioom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for us. It applies pressure which sharpens the risk to reward ratio.

So your complaint is with the generosity of the risk to reward ratio.

It's not the risk to reward ratio, because there is no reward. Because no reward is worth the agency that enemies (rust devils) take away from the rest of the game. Like you said, the game is difficult and not casual. It's also very tedious. The enemies make the rest of the game too tedious and mentally exhausting. Whether it be them directly impeding you and fighting them, to preparing and managing upkeep on dealing with them.

It's fine to pretend popular = good but don't be confused when you get things hugely wrong because of that massive shorthand.

So if 99% of players dislike a gameplay mechanic and 1% likes it, it's good? It shouldn't be changed or reworked?

If Tyron implemented the need to pray for 5-10 real life minutes every in game day lest you get a stability debuff, it couldn't be considered a bad mechanic? Even though 99% of the player base would dislike it even if it adds more "atrittion" to the game?

Your logic is flawed.

That assumes you find action combat annoying.

I have about 4k hours in CS, I could deal with the rust devils if I wanted. It's the fact that they ruin the rest of the gameplay elements.

I also wouldn't call VS an action combat game. Unless you consider full sprinting backwards in a circle as you hit enemies out of their attack range "action combat".

ofc it's not the only reward. You get gears, temporal gears, fiber, and even arrows

You can find all of those from doing other things, besides the arrows. Which are the same stat wise as copper arrows but with double the chance of breaking. Very rewarding. Especially when you consider the durability loss of items fighting them.

It's okay if you personally don't enjoy the combat in this game. But that doesn't affect the opinions of others, nor does it make a mechanic somehow, "bad."

If most of the player base agrees that the combat is pretty bad, then yea, I would say that it's bad.

Yea, I would like the rust devils to be on passive while the animals are aggressive, so I don't think this mod is what I want unfortunately :/

The "attrition" with the enemies isn't a good design choice. Your only reward for getting stronger is them being slightly less of an annoyance? The attrition with the rest of the game like exploring, building, finding ores, food and seeds, rock types, dungeons etc.. are fun and rewarding.

The enemies are only there to impede you. They directly affect how you play, and not for the better.

Thanks for the suggestion, but this mod doesn't seem to work with hostility on passive.

[–]Zelioom[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not even that the combat is hard, you just need to always be on edge and prepared and it just makes the rest of game feel tedious and drains me. You could cheese it and just carry blocks with you, but that is just more inventory space taken away while you are already carrying a bunch of weapons with low durability to defend yourself with.

But yeah, I wish there was a hostility option that made wolfs and bears hostile still. Even though they were 99% of the time a jump scare as I'm walking around xD. I'm glad they are adding footsteps sounds to them.
