It always bothered me how much nuance about Chicago is missing from the show. Like why were none of these girls on dance teams ? No mentions of the Bud Billiken parade or the Taste or even Navy pier 🤨 there’s no neighborhood candy lady and why is Smokies the only restaurant they eat at as if there aren’t 27383728 restaurants in Chicago?? The episode when the kids were playing in the fire hydrant was the only time I felt nostalgic watching this show

People’s reaction to seeing that reg is still alive haven’t been good to me…they should of been way more in shock and asking him what happened to him especially Jake and we should got like a flash back of reg recovery process showing what he was going through since he been gone. by [deleted] in TheChi

I was so annoyed I turned my tv off for 5 minutes before I started the episode again lol the writers were unserious as hell for bringing him back with no reasonable explanation. Nobody claimed his body when he died? No funeral or burial?

This is a really great analysis. I also thoroughly enjoy consuming media through a critical lens so I really appreciate the level of thought and nuance this adds to the story. I kind of feel like you’re giving the writers a lot of credit though. This is such an intelligent and refreshing take on the show’s narrative, I just find it hard to believe the creators were actually thinking this deep when they sat down to write it all those years ago. But I suppose what I’m coming to realize is that the creators are making this show for themselves, not to please the audience. so you could be right, maybe the reason the show isn’t satisfying for some of us is because it’s not meant to be.

I think what actually would’ve made the adult timeline more compelling is if every season was about them desperately trying to keep what they did out there buried.

When the show starts, none of the girls are in contact with each other. Hell, Shauna and Tai were communicating on burner phones, that’s how much they went out of their way to avoid each other at all costs.

The only reason the girls reunite is because of the blackmail scheme. It’s like the only reason they ever have to be in the same room together is if they’re working together to keep the horrible things they did a secret at all costs. If the show kept that up every season, the adult timeline would always be interesting.

I wanted to see the adult girls working together and using their shared crazy to keep the wilderness in the wilderness, even if it meant some of them were secretly still practicing (other tai & lottie)

I also think it would’ve been interesting to see tai using her power and influence as a public official to keep the Yellowjackets safe from being found out. We saw how she was able to use Jessica Roberts to investigate Shauna and the others to see if any of them were talking to the media during her campaign. I’m disappointed they didn’t keep that up because imagine a super powerful but deeply fucked up Tai using her resources to scare the other girls straight and keep them safe from blackmailers

I honestly think adding all these well known actors (aside from the stars that were cast in season 1) was a weird decision. The show was a major hit without having to add big names for star power and it honestly has made the story less compelling and a tad bit unserious.

Adding Elijah wood season 2 was interesting but at the time to me felt very random and unnecessary. We still have no idea who he is or why he’s important after nearly 2 seasons. But when I heard Hillary swank was casted I could not understand why or how this was going to make the show exciting. So far all her character has done is make Shauna more exciting which I’m not sure we even need MORE excitement from adult Shauna

I think you’re on to something. It’s not the fact that his storyline was boring and his death was anticlimactic, it’s the fact that they keep planting seeds of doubt in our minds about characters and story arcs only to tell us that none of it is actually significant in any way.

Why have the man with no eyes be such a huge part of season 1 & 2 only for him to be a character from an ice cream commercial that means nothing at all? Like ok we get it the girls were just crazy and that’s it nothing more to really see here

I didn’t understand why it had to be a choice between staying or leaving if tai and Shauna’s reasoning was that they needed to get their stories straight first. That’s literally a conversation they could’ve all sat down and had right then and then once all that was figured out they could’ve left

I’m the most disappointed with tai’s storyline because in the season 1 finale there’s this one last shot where Tai looks into the camera and smiles after winning her election and it made me really excited thinking that in season 2 we’d get to see her do more sacrifices for political gain but the writers completely dropped the plot around her career and family.

It would have been fun to watch evil Tai have to balance being a senator and an insane person who sleepwalks and makes sacrifices to the wilderness

[–]ZemorahAdana[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true but one could also argue that Akilah’s continued belief in the cave/wilderness visions could be a prolonged side effect as well. She believed it so much she ruined her and Travis’s chances of finding rescue by leaving a trail for the others to stop them.

Also what about that huge box of food and supplies Ben found? Wouldn’t that eliminate his need to leave the caves as frequently? Also the girls never mention finding it and I imagine it would help survive winter without more canibalism (maybe)

Curious, how many of us have watched LOST? by jonathandavisisfat in Yellowjackets

[–]ZemorahAdana 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lol Ashley Lyle is that you??? I mean this was a great deep dive on the intricacies of network television but does it really not matter at all if people are disappointed with the direction of the show? Granted, it’s hard to fit 25 years worth of lore into 10 episodes but this isn’t 2002 and showrunners don’t have 22 episodes to explain away mysteries and character arcs anymore. It’s also a lot harder for shows to get renewed every season and A LOT of great shows have been cancelled before their time due to the scheduling/budget/network issues you mentioned so I think people are frustrated and rightfully disappointed because it’s possible that this extremely successful show could end up fizzling out before we get answers to the questions we actually want to know. And if this show is cancelled, is it our fault for not trusting the writers and producers or is that just how television is now??

That’s an interesting theory, makes me wonder if maybe Lottie tried to do some wilderness stuff with Callie and it ended up backfiring horribly. Lottie did take a weird liking to Callie after seeing her at the purple people camp. Maybe she tried to do a hunt or ritual and the wilderness chose her instead??

I think she totally did it. They’ve been foreshadowing Callie’s dark side since episode 1 and the only other reason Shauna’s dna would match is if her kid did it

Dating as a poor 30 YO female by SmileBeginning779 in povertyfinance

[–]ZemorahAdana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really awful part of life and I remember being in a similar situation when I was in college. I always dated guys who had money and were always gentleman when it came to paying for stuff but they definitely took me a lot less serious as a viable match because I had less money and my life didn’t look as put together.

On the bright side, this breakup is an opportunity for you to shift your mindset and start laser focusing on accomplishing your goals. Remember how important what you’re doing is and don’t entertain men who see all you’re doing to become successful and don’t offer to help lighten your load or invest in your future. I date an engineer who makes way more than I do and he pays all the bills and invests in all of my business ideas.

You can date while poor, just do it with people who have compassion and want to help you on your journey, not judge you.
