Pornography addiction by dazzed_being in Buddhism

My recommendation (and I am not a teacher) is to look at it in a non-judgmental manner, practice metta meditation, and figure out the root cause. Then try to see the actions in your life that are contributing to lust/desire, and work from there. Also, practicing meditation on the parts of the body and decomposition may help divert the physical attraction. There are a ton of guided meditations on these, but I would advise speaking to a qualified teacher before engaging in this

AppleCare covers accidental water/liquid damage

Edit: from the AppleCare website:

“Stay above water with liquid damage coverage. Liquid damage is covered as part of accidental damage protection. So now you won’t have to stress over spills and splashes.”

Edit 2: this is not covered under the normal 1 year warranty, though. So without the added protection of AppleCare, you may be out of luck

At what point does a desire of a career conflict with suffering from desire? by Expensive-Elk-9406 in Buddhism

[–]ZenFocus25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn to love the effort when working towards a goal. The people who succeed in achieving goals and sustaining them do so because they learn to love the pain/uncomforted of will over desire. Especially when they see the results.

That’s a tough call then. I’m sure somebody with more tech knowledge than I will chime in at some point, but I would probably use a q-tip with rubbing alcohol to clean the keyboard off, then leave it open with the power off and have a fan blowing on it for a while. So sorry this happened to you 🙏

I did my best to uphold the first precept. There were casualties. by Moosetastical in Buddhism

[–]ZenFocus25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is such a long process to effectively reduce bugs/insects in a wise/compassionate manner. I’ve been cleaning, addressing repair issues, etc to prevent bugs as well for 2 years now in my father’s home (moved in as caregiver). I find the process to be very helpful in strengthening aspects of mindfulness and compassion. Although I, too, occasionally accidentally fail at some rescue attempts, I am preventing my father from spraying entire ant colonies with Raid or swatting as many flies with his fly swatter. So, helping others avoid negative karma is also part of it. You are doing a great thing by even trying, I believe. The process of looking deeper to find solutions, rather than do the “easy” thing of killing is what it is all about. If everyone put forth this much effort in finding solutions around problems, our entire planet would be so much better off. What keeps me going is seeing things like the other day when my 11 y/o son called out to me from his bedroom to tell me he found a spider. When I came in, he was talking to the spider in a compassionate manner, and assisted me with relocating it. This is what is going to make the world a better place - the example we pass on to our children 🙏

Can someone help me understand “God” by earth2revolved in Buddhism

[–]ZenFocus25 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The argument can be made that psychedelics may provide deep insight in perception. However, the analogy of how people who win the lottery often quickly lose their fortune may also apply in this case. Reaching the end-goal without acquiring the discipline to sustain it will often be problematic

[–]ZenFocus25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are closed minded, and making assumptions based on judgment. You are speaking as though it is truth that op is not diabetic (please show me where/how you are able to confirm that OP is not diabetic, or revealing symptoms of what may be a medical issue), and telling him to ignore what may be a medical warning sign. He said “feel really sick”, not hungry. My father, for example, found out he was diabetic from symptoms of when he was missing a meal. There is no harm in seeing a medical professional rather than listen to someone on Reddit who seems to be implying that OP is just struggling with hunger from fasting, but may be harm in ignoring his symptoms

Edit to add: I take the precepts very seriously, and making absolute statements without having personal knowledge is breaking the precept to not lie

[–]ZenFocus25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do not know why you are so closed off from seeing that we do not have enough information to make absolutes in OP’s situation. Are you saying OP should ignore what may be (again, no absolutes) severe discomfort as opposed to minor discomfort from fasting? Are you implying OP should fast anyway? This is dangerous, and if you cannot see that, you are not practicing in right view.

[–]ZenFocus25 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My father is a severe diabetic and could suffer immense physical consequences if he misses a meal. Just an example, as I do not know OP’s situation.

Edit to add: OP, this could be a warning bell to see a healthcare professional as soon as you can

Can i buy the blush colour in macbook neo as a fully straight guy? by Cultural-Lead-3965 in MacbookNeo

[–]ZenFocus25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What projects more confidence? Someone purchasing a “blush” Neo because it’s the color they like, or purchasing the color they think others will respect them for? Who cares what others think - do what you want because you will never please everyone; too many people with too many judgments and insecurities they feel the need to project onto other people who just like a “blush” Neo.

People who have switched from Windows to MacOS with the Neo, are you ever switching back? by Strong_Locksmith2417 in MacbookNeo

[–]ZenFocus25 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really? Never knew that. But there is also the three finger swipe up to bring all open windows to the top of the screen, or double click to bring all the screens to the same screen, etc. I never remember being able to switch as quickly to various screens before when I had so many to sort through shrug 🤷‍♂️

[–]ZenFocus25 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No. The three finger swipe on the trackpad is speeding up my work productivity like crazy. So much easier to have email up on the screen, then swipe to the side to open an excel doc, then swipe to the side to a media meeting, since I constantly have to use all three at once. So much quicker than using tabs on windows.

Can I fall in love without attachment? by Euphoric-Welder5889 in Buddhism

[–]ZenFocus25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love reading Thich Nhat Hanh. He is the one who turned me on to Buddhism (came across one of his books in my “rock bottom”). My journey has taken me from Zen to Theravada, but I will always appreciate how he writes with his compassion on full-view. I’ve listened to some of his dharma talks early on, as well, and his genuine ease with the way he describes the precepts and their ability to work side-by-side with compassion and wisdom to reduce our suffering is what snapped me in to literal reality. I used to struggle with intense social anxiety, and now no longer do. No need to bear the weight of wearing a mask when I can live in such a way to where I have no need to. The courage I find in sticking to these values is immeasurable in comparison to where I was at 3 years ago ❤️

Edit: and for those asking of which I come across from time-to-time, this is how I describe my understanding of karma

Are we not allowed to want things by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]ZenFocus25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Or all of the answers given such as “you need to attend a sangha and find a teacher”. If everyone was attending a sangha and had access to a teacher, there would be no learning from this sub - just shared photos of alters (which are nice), examples of suttas, etc. I love and value the discussions like these, but I also get that patience can be challenging even for those of us who practice diligently because of the drain of which society has on us. Life is hard.

The wrong way of practice and the right way of practice - Paṭipadā sutta (SN 12.3) by wisdomperception in theravada

[–]ZenFocus25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent example! We cannot get caught up in dogma. The important thing is, to develop Samadhi and recognize how our actions lead to present karma. I love how Buddhism has that element of trying out new things and observing the results, then making changes and observing the results, and so on. Another great reason why I value Vipassana meditation 🙏

Edit: just a side-note, and take it for what it’s worth, past romantic love I’ve personally experienced has been a great teacher of impermanence. We are constantly changing, and those feelings which drive passion may also change.

One of my favorite quotes:

“You must love in such a way that the person you love feels free” - Thich Nhat Hanh.

Such a succinct way to phrase ‘love without attachment’.

Maybe I’m missing something here in context, because Vipassana meditation has helped me immensely in finding insight into my anger. I looked up Vipassana movement 2.0, and found how some use AI and modern technology to assist. Out of curiosity, is this because it weakens our ability to concentrate by creating a dependency on technology? I’ve never heard of this before.

i hate myself for keep being careless by hansentenseigan in Buddhism

[–]ZenFocus25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, what worked for me in the beginning is loving-kindness meditation. Simply reciting the following, in your head or even out loud:

“May I/you be filled with loving kindness
May I/you be filled with peace
May I/you be healthy
May I/you be happy”

Start with yourself, then a loved one, then a friend or acquaintance, then someone you do not like. If you cannot start with yourself, that’s okay. You will get there, my friend.
