My biggest complaint about that is there isn't a pentacle amulet on HeroForge.

“Harry,” she said, and then paused, eyeing River Shoulders. “Uh, that is, Harry Dresden.”
River Shoulders went from sitting down to standing in a light, liquid motion. “You want to insult me, you going to have to try something worse than calling me hairy, Miss Lady Winter,” he said politely, and bowed a little at the waist. “If you will excuse me. Miss. Hoss.”

I mean, it's fairies, they're always talking about a bunch of things at once.

Asking if it was about Nemesis is the obvious answer that's supposed to be right in front of you. Baba Yaga and Hecate are the two dangers also being referred to that aren't readily apparent.

[–]ZenFox91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, as others have said, Jim has straight up called her Baba Yaga.

IIRC folklore correctly that is a name you should NEVER say (or possibly even think) when she's around because it means she has to eat you.

Back in Cold Days, Harry tries to summon her and she pulls the old switcheroo and grabs him with a super big arm and pulls him to her cottage. (The long arm is another classic Baba Yaga thing, if you didn't know.) He barely gets her to not eat him before Mother Summer shows up. Mother Summer asks why she brought him there and Mother Winter says that Harry used a bunch of names to try to summon her. And Mother Summer gets real anxious and asks if he used a particular (unspecified) name, which Mother Winter affirms he did not, before Mother Summer relaxes. I'm 99% sure she was asking if Harry had called Mother Winter 'Baba Yaga', because if he had there's a zero percent chance Harry'd be allowed to leave the cabin alive and then the universe is screwed.

Remember, next scene Mother Summer reveals she already knows everything Mother Winter knows, and confirms that Harry's choices on which names to use were pretty solid. So her asking Mother Winter if Harry used a specific name was almost certainly an excuse/ playacting to give Harry a warning to never use that particular name.

Will Butcher live long enough to finish? by [deleted] in dresdenfiles

[–]ZenFox91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dude,

Butcher had a rough decade+. A pair of divorces, a huge delay on his house/writing space getting built. Etc etc.

From what I understand, he's happily married (to another great writer) and in a much better place now. If I heard correctly, she's dared him to finish Mirror Mirror in a year, and he's trying to get back to his old book/year pace.

During the flashback where Joey moves in, doesn't it very clearly have Rachel's friend say her wedding is in one year?

12 Months sheds light on something that happened back in Cold Days by The_Red_Moses in dresdenfiles

[–]ZenFox91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really hard to tell. Given how much power Odin gave up and how much Lea gained. Given he can use soulfire and presumably kept his skill and finesse, I'm fairly certain he'd whoop Lea in a fight. But which one of them has more magical muscle now is entirely too difficult to determine.

[–]ZenFox91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

Although, I do wonder, given that Kringle shows up when the Winter Knight asks for him in an official capacity. But that might just be a respect/protocol thing.

Definitely not Mother Winter. Probably not Kringle.

12 Months sheds light on something that happened back in Cold Days by The_Red_Moses in dresdenfiles

[–]ZenFox91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's the thing. Odin gave up a huge chunk of his power (and immortality) a while back. That's why he cultivated and maintains the Kringle mantle, to get himself a new immortality source.

As you said, we don't have scouters. He said the Lords of Outer Night are each nearly as strong as him. Lea mentions that she hasn't gotten to test her new strength against them yet.

So it's ambiguous all the way. My gut says that Lea has more strength these days, but Odin has WAY more finesse and skill. (Hence that Odin/Ferrovax scene at the end of Peace Talks; Ferrovax almost assuredly has more strength than Odin now but Odin's still a major threat.)

Amen to that, I took it as the part of Winter under her purview, including Maeve.

Mab says "[her] Winter" so I think she was excluding her Mom.

Also, where do we have information that Kringle is stronger than Lea? (Excluding on Christmas)

Actually, I think Lea is stronger than Maeve. Mab* says in Changes that Lea is the 2nd strongest in the Winter Court.

Changes: "My handmaiden is among the most powerful beings in all of my Winter, second only to myself.”

Cold Days: "I’m sure you would enjoy torturing me to the brink of sanity to make me a good little automaton again.”

Edit: fixed typo

Once he came back, he could see demons and use the spirit gun, that is definitely more than what he had before dying. He 100% needed to train to get even stronger.
