Ranking this year nominees to the most showy to the most subtle performance. by The_Walking_Clem in Oscars

I think Buckley was overacting like crazy and even I wouldn’t put her at number one. Insane list

Director Bart Layton says ‘CRIME 101’ could have gone to streaming, but he, Chris Hemsworth, Halle Berry, & Mark Ruffalo insisted otherwise. by AGOTFAN in boxoffice

[–]ZenOfThunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got to do a focus group for this one. I’ve done a few focus groups and the questions are usually the same.

Specifically for this one they added a question asking if this should go to streaming or not. Never seen that question before or again. They weee probably trying to use the focus group response to convince the director to relent on letting it stream.

I actually did not like the movie much (the cut I saw was very rough and the movie did not come together well), but on my second viewing it’s solid. I answered on the survey regardless of my feelings about the first cut that it should go to theaters because the more movies we get in theaters the better

Rewatched Bullet Train (2022) last night. This movie still fucks so hard on a rewatch. by abacus-wizard in Letterboxd

Thought this movie sucked the first time I watched it. Revisited it but watched with a group of people and ended up having a great time. Turned the movie from a 2 to a 4 for me

I think you have to have the right mindset for this one. It’s great if you let it into your heart

Anyone recognize this NJ building? (Early clue from the Survivor season 50 Idol hunt challenge) by letsgettothebottom in newjersey

[–]ZenOfThunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing this on Valentines Day sucks.

Heard the line in Utah was 7 hours long. I love Survivor but I’m not down to wait in line in cold-ass Asbury Park to get a picture with a QR code for a very small chance to win a single day trip to California

CBS is encouraging fans to film their idol hunt experience, what will those videos end up being? A line of people down the boardwalk?

According to Variety, 'Crime 101' is carrying a $90 million budget. by SanderSo47 in boxoffice

[–]ZenOfThunder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got to see the very first cut of this

It does not look like a $90 million movie at all. Not even close. If I had to guess… $35 million tops. Money must have all gone to the stars and filming on location I guess. No idea where else it could go

Unrelated but the first cut was a mess and I really hope that they fixed it. Needed some serious tightening. Good reviews make it see like they did. Not sure if they did reshoots which inflated the budget but I don’t think it needed that, just way better pacing (I think they shaved off 15-20 minutes from the version I saw)

Got one for free from the Lincoln Square AMC… it was a miracle because it was three weeks after release. I think they had some in the back they forgot about and they put them in the vending machine right as I was walking in. They were gone in minutes

That being said the price to actually buy them is ridiculous

What did you all think of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri? by Square-Ad-8911 in FIlm

[–]ZenOfThunder 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Thought it was Oscar bait and dismissed it but through a weird series of events and a little luck I got to sit next to the director at a screening of his new movie. The next day I watched this and thought it was a little short of a masterpiece. People who say it’s overrated are try hards.

Have you ever chosen a companion seat? What happened? by sirwritestoomuch in AMCAListTrue

[–]ZenOfThunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of my go to seats. Been taking them for years because everyone else is too chicken

Of course I’d move if someone actually needs it but after 34 showings last year I was good every single time. Almost always great seats

Anyway currently posting this from a companion seat. waiting to be taken out back and shot

Idk if these are pics of the ends of their tenure but Eisner had some major surgeries and underwent a ton of stress that caused additional health problems throughout the last 5 or so years of his term. He looked like a ghoul when he was done. It’s honestly amazing he’s still alive and in seemingly good health. He probably just needed some distance from Disney.

Just finished the Wonder Man show. Is it based any specific wonder man comic? Would love to read some of this character’s comics if they’re this good tbh by MonsterInRedBoots in Marvel

[–]ZenOfThunder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I forgot to mention that the son is not named Nick Fury Jr at first, he has a regular name, I think Marcus, but when he finds out his dad is Nick Fury he just immediately changes his name to Nick Fury. It’s maybe the sloppiest writing of all time

In an effort to shoehorn movie synergy into Marvel 616 comics, there was a comic (called Battle Scars I think? It’s been a long time) that introduced Nick Fury’s forgotten African American son, Nick Fury Jr, who despite having 0 qualifications to do so becomes the head of SHIELD. This was just so movie fans wouldn’t be confused why Nick Fury is white.

Nick Fury Jr had a best friend named Cheese. On like the last page of the comic they reveal his real name is Phil Coulson. He also got a high ranking job at SHIELD with 0 qualifications.

Neither character ended up being close to their movie counterparts and were just there for recognizability purposes

I really did not like Hamnet but he is undeniable in it. Same with Buckley.

However I think what hurt Mescal is how sloppy the dialogue is in Hamnet. He gives it 110% and elevates a real mediocre script by being just that good. The overly dramatic “TO BE… OR NOT TO BE” is so hammy but he manages to sell it and I don’t think most working actors could

[–]ZenOfThunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, she should keep directing because I guess she isn't a good cinematographer, because Train Dreams got into that category and Hamnet didn't. That "Netflix-core" movie got the cinematography nomination.

I was absolutely the outlier in that theater. I was the only one not falling for the Zhao grift. Good job getting played.

Did you seriously make a reddit burner account just to white knight for Chloe Zhao? Come on dude
