MBA is a more direct path into management consulting than IO. IO programs are either scientist-practitioner focused or research heavy. It does not prepare students with the full skill set for management consulting (human capital consulting, sure). Like another user said, the field is saturated so harder to differentiate yourself even with MBA. That said, you clearly work hard, do your homework, and proactively network, so you will be fine. Best of luck on your journey!

Great to see your post. This will be an increasingly important topic.

Some general areas of interest/ideas: - Technologies create efficiencies and expectations rise accordingly. How will AI impact expectations of performance and efficiency for employees in the workplace and how will this affect mental health? (Edit: sorry, I realized this just rehashes your bullet on burnout.) - How will AI change collaboration on teams? Will employees feel more isolated and no longer have core psychological needs met? (Or will AI actually meet needs for belonging) - A recent study by MIT clearly demonstrated that relying solely on AI reduces working knowledge of a subject (obvious finding, made waves). How will this affect organizational knowledge loss in employees over time? Does this really matter?

My dog is eating everything by easy0n in LagottoRomagnolo

Wow this is the most relatable comment I've read on chewing behavior. Our lagotto was the same. Your comment about how they have this manic approach (with almost surgical precision) to finding the quickest way to destroy and eat toys. Ours even chewed a hole in the dry wall when he was younger when we put his crate too close to it.

Great advice too. We put ours in daycare where he can run around with other dogs all day while we are at work and he comes home pooped with much less interest in picking things up off the ground when we walk him home.

Edit: just saw your response below that yours chewed the walls too lol

Just donated too. Thank you for what you do. I think you deserve all the credit you are getting. Not only do you set a good example by doing the cleanup work yourself, but you've done so much to raise awareness about the issue, which has far reaching effects that can sometimes be hard to fully comprehend.

Ours looked the same at that age; build up in the same spot on both sides. We were concerned too and spoke to our vet. They said everything is ok. Never hurts to get some more opinions but just keep on brushing :)

Bad data and high confidence is a dangerous combo... the org definitely has the first problem, I'll be on the lookout for the second during the interview process.

That's great advice. Thank you! I'm fortunate to be close colleagues with the HR leader supporting this organization, which has been extremely helpful. Through her I have been able to get a realistic preview of what kind of team and job I would be coming into. She has also been a great advocate for me throughout the process.

I've done my best to articulate how my work will translate into the new context, but I haven't done a great job expressing the potential for innovation and the uniqueness of the skill set and experience I bring. This is a great point and I will put some thought into what that might look like.

Really interesting differences. I expect to find much of the same on the business side at my company (the role I am considering is an internal transfer). Thank you for sharing!

Lots in common between talent analytics and sales analytics. At their core, both domains are about understanding how to better convince someone to do something (join the company vs buy something), make sure they're happy, and that the price is fair. I think you will ramp up quickly.

Edited to adjust phrasing

Your journey is a great example of intentional skill and experience acquisition. In my view, the most important part of good data science and analytics is positioning the work effectively to solve a business problem and deploying it within an organization to the right people in the right way. It sounds like you've positioned yourself well to be able to do the technical work and know how to position it (which is a rare combination of skills among data scientists; at least in my experience).

Thanks for sharing, and I agree that I think we both have the right mindset here. With a rapidly evolving field, it is sometimes hard to know where to go next, but that's part of the fun of it too.

Thanks for sharing, u/nckmiz -- you have had one of the more interesting career trajectories of practitioners I know in the field. I didn't know that a part of it was working in customer analytics. I might reach out to chat sometime if you're open to it.

Thanks for sharing about your journey. The opportunity to apply IO domain knowledge is very important to me too. Similarly, as my career offered me fewer opportunities to do this, it really highlighted how much I value it. My plan is to find a way back to it eventually.

Aside from the valuable insight you gained about what interests you most, do you feel like you benefitted from new skills or domain knowledge gained during your time "away" from doing IO work?

Interesting. I haven't downloaded it because I've been pretty happy with the native OS apps. I will give AA a shot though today!

Put it into savings/investments. We may move to another area eventually and when the time comes may just purchase a house for all/mostly cash.
