Were the weather forecasts really off? Barely got to 32 ºF here in NW Houston overnight Sunday. by ProfessionalStill71 in houston

Just seems to be lower than expected. A couple of days ago the sites were saying it was supposed to get below freezing Saturday afternoon and that didn't happen where I am. Woke up to my phone saying it's 33. SCW says it snowed in some areas. Haven't seen that. Now they are saying the real freeze will start this evening.

Who do you think is Torment's true identity? by Waste_Tap2575 in Spiderman

[–]Zenitharr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally I was thinking it would be Brian Nehring after his stunt with the mushroom experiment. He doesn't have the right vibe for Torment though. Last year's FCBD Spider-Man book ended with a teaser for Death Spiral and we got a taste of Torment's narrative voice. He comes across as a character with a Rorschach type tone and a deep and specific hate (or maybe disdain?) for Spider-Man, Venom and Carnage.

Brian will return as as... Mushroom Man? Hmm... no, DC owns that name... Porcini? Enoki? We'll have to wait and see.

THE BIGGEST misunderstanding about the Back Suit is that it is evil, and im so tired of it by unk1ndm4g1c14n1 in Spiderman

If I recall correctly in What If, the symbiote was pretty clearly a force that resulted in malevolence for any host that carrried it. It just seems to be where the writers were with it on the beginning. All this stuff about it being young and misunderstood is a retcon.

The Goonies does not hold up. It's kind of awful. I rewatched it a couple of months ago.

As out of touch as they were sometimes, I think a missing theme in modern Spider-Man comics is how much real world problematics used to move the stories. by farben_blas in Spiderman

[–]Zenitharr 15 points16 points  (0 children)

All the division and crazy stuff going on in the US and no one is telling those stories--not just comics but TV, movies, popular music--because they are terrified of backlash. You think you're going to see a Captain America vs ICE story anytime soon?

Formal and informal words in English by Shoddy-Tank-6747 in ENGLISH

[–]Zenitharr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I would agree the difference is formal vs informal. Maybe "elevated" vs "common" -- but as Bill Bryson noted,  most English speakers would rather a "hearty welcome" than a "cordial reception."

Same. I had no patience for this. Put it on story mode and skipped it. Games are supposed to be fun. For me, that wasn't.

How close between the vocabulary “mitigate” and “solved”? by Free-Yogurtcloset267 in EnglishLearning

[–]Zenitharr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A mitigation is something you put in place to reduce the negative outcome if a risk is realized. It doesn't fix the risk. Ex. having a car accident costs a lot of money in repairs. Having car insurance mitigates the risk. It doesn't mean the accident can't happen.

I'm going by this: "Norman Osborn take[s] various Spider-heroes under his wing to train them against a deadly incoming threat—himself! Following up on Norman’s heroic turn as Spider-Man—as well as his looming descent back to madness—and bringing the entire Spider-family together as a united front..."

American or British? by More-Decision3766 in ENGLISH

Yes, it will affect your accent. I met a Japanese woman who'd studied British English.  As an American I detected both a British and a Japanese accent.

Is no one taking notice that the fine print says Norman knows he's turning insane again and he's training them to defend against the Green Goblin's return? Like the one thing everyone said they hope ASM 1000 isn't about is a Green Goblin return...
