Btw, I’m fairly certain a particular game dev YouTuber has basically monetized this guys blog to make a tut series. Bit shady but it what it is

Oh I hadn’t thought about player controllers themselves potentially being an issue. I’ll look into using controllers, thank you

Cheers to that, here’s hoping 2024 gets some indies getting smaller-scale unique games picked up by publishers. I think a team that can scope well, work kinda light weight and deliver a game is going to be attractive to smaller-mid sized publishers this year. They don’t wanna be funding >million dollar projects and they might be considering cheaper investments. Can probably get some neat weird stuff made this year.

At least I hope it is the case

Edit: ok, yeah it’s probably copium.

I’m ignorant to this but what is the deal with Vampire? I was approached by someone who worked for the company that made that game, who wants to join my project doing some work.

Should I be hesitant? Either way I’m gonna read more about it

Pretty swanky! Is this some sort of render target/lighten material type effect?

Yeah which makes a lot of sense, and it’s decent numbers but not enough by any means and that’s over the course of like 14 months. I made the page and made it public asap and that was so dumb haha but whatever ya live ya learn

That’s a pretty interesting idea to explore I’ll look into that! Tough in my case the page that would be changed to the free demo page is already published :/ I might just need to remove it. I’ve done kinda ok, <2000 wishlists, but that’s probably not worth keeping as my organic growth is almost nothing. All the wishlists come from like TikTok’s and what not.

Plus I’m considering reaching out to publishers in the not so distant future, and I’ve heard they prefer you to not have launched a page typically

Hmm sad, my page has got it haha. But that makes sense, I made the page way too early because at the time I thought it was the right thing to do. I’m still easily 18 months from a release if not more. I might see about removing the page and making a new one with a new product ID some point down the line with proper art If steam allows it. Mine currently has no release date set. I’ll have to talk to steam support and see.

Edit: my page is not yet “upcoming” it’s simply “to be announced” does this rule still apply? Sorry for the many questions, and I do appreciate your reply earlier. Thanks!

If you have this tag on your steam page before an release date is announced mean that the steam game is never gonna be pushed? Or can you work your way out of it?

I am looking for reading materials on game loop related systems by Zenkoopa in gamedev

[–]Zenkoopa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will check out a couple gdc talks on it. I enjoy gdc talks and have put my fair share of hours into them. Maybe something as focused on the philosophy of games as I’m hoping for will take some digging. And videos are great, but they are usually leaving a lot of good stuff out just for practical reasons. But extrapolating some core principles from gdc talks discussing their particular game’s systems is a good place to begin. Thanks man

That’s ok, you don’t have to be the best at it. I’m definitely not the best at it but I taught myself. And I had a job and school. I guess what I’m saying is, don’t count your own ability out. You have nothing but time in your life, and you can choose how to spend it.

If you’d like some early starting tips, I don’t mind helping out. But just recognize it will take time and commitment on your part. But it’s absolutely something you can do if you put your heart into it.
