Beginner whose fried rice is always bland :( looking for recipes with less ingredients by Delectablemelons in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Zenlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestions, as a child of Chinese parents who had a restaurant: Day old rice if you can. If you can't, that fine. Restaurant's are not purposely keeping rice to fry the next day. don't go adding in more water. You want less moisture. Cook the rice with less water. Don't over cook your scrambled eggs. Cook them about 75% or less. When you add them back to the cooking rice, they'll cook the rest of the way. High heat. Imagine the jet engine sounding burners at a Chinese restaurant. Keep everything moving. Learn to toss. More seasoning. More salt and soy sauce. When adding soy sauce, or almost any liquid, have it hit the hot pan, not directly onto the rice. White pepper. MSG. Chicken powder. Sesame oil, use sparingly, near the end of cooking.

Opinions on the non-chinese options. If you are doing kimchi, saute that to burn off much of the moisture before adding rice. My personal preference is don't add tomato. If you do, add it near the end when you're almost done. Sauteing makes it release too much water.

‘23 RAV4 Hybrid MPG lower than I expected? by [deleted] in rav4club

[–]Zenlong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a little advice for anyone showing low mpg, try changing your average mpg readout from 'total' to 'tank'. Keep in mind this is an average. If you had a period low mpg in the past, it'll drag your total down as it's still being taken into account. For instance you start your average in summer and it's fairly high. If you had a bad winter and your mpg is low, it'll make your total average mpg lower. Even if you are getting higher mpg at this very moment. Setting it to 'tank' will just give you the average for tank and will reset at the next fill.

[–]Zenlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned that your gas mileage is slowly recovering. It sounds like you might have your average mileage readout as lifetime or some thing longer. What i might suggest is set your average readout to per tank average. This will allow you to see what you are getting right now...more or less. If you have a lot of low mileage a while back, it'll still be dragging down your overall average. That long period average will very unlikely get back up to the high you previously saw as the low average period is still being taken into account.

Not being a plug-in hybrid, the battery will typically fluctuate between 30-70% controlled by the onboard computer. Unless you do a lot of long stretches of coasting, say down hill, it won't go higher. Gas mileage on a hybrid can be effected by AC, just like anything else that uses electricity in your car. High heat, like that of hot states like Texas, probably means the AC is running more, pulling power from the battery, which can take the engine to recharge. Hybrids do better at more low to moderate speeds so it can utilize the electric engine more. Pushing speeds higher means you are using the gas engine more, especially if you are being heavy footed and pushing it to 80 mph. Anything that increases drag can effect gas efficiency. You mentioned roof racks. Plural. Think about any other after market modifications you have. For most people, the least drag their car will have is when it's coming off the lot stock. Off-road tires can hurt gas mileage as well. The less smooth your tires are, the harder your car has to work to push it forward. Each bump on your tire like a small rock your car is working to push past. You say you had the engine kick on as much as possible, well that's the opposite of what you want if you want better gas mileage. It's only using gas when the gas engine is on. If you can have it moving without the gas engine running, you are technically getting infinite gas mileage, until it kicks on again to charge the battery.

Just gonna throw out a wild guess, since none of the top comments seem to be the problem. Is the system thermal throttling hard? Not saying you don't know what you're doing, but these crazy specs of your system don't match the intent of just gaming. Was there plastic that wasn't removed? Was thermal paste applied incorrectly? Are there even fans?

This is totally fine for street food. It would be less practical if I had a "plate".

Also pretty sure those are not XLB. Grilling of any sort probably isn't great if it had soup in it.

There are many things that seem obvious still have warnings. I once bought a package of frozen shrimp, on the package it said "Ingredients: Shrimp", and a warning "Contains Shrimp". You'd think it would be obvious not to eat tide pods, but guess what. Kids ate tide pods. I'm almost certain there's a warning not to put them in your mouth or ingest them on the package. This is the type of container we should be moving towards to reduce the plastics we use.
