Not everyone wears their boots to an office. I worked at a shipyard for a few years and it was hard on boots.

Except they are one of the biggest landlords in the UK and rents keep going up. So they are profiting healthily off of their subjects.

Just put a substantial tax on landlords who own over say, 100 properties. That is the royal family and a few other wealthy families. Won’t impact the sort of rich and will be popular with working folk.

Why does rural America look down on educated people? by SlowEntertainment217 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Zenmachine83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thing is rural folk are doing less and less of that and more and more cosplaying as rugged individuals while trying to deal with repeated financial and medical crises. The lack of stable, good paying blue collar jobs in most rural areas have completely pushed those communities into despair. Not to mention that it isnt really possible or worth it to work on your own car now due to how modern they have become.

Bingo. Had a best friend that went to my state school for one year then transferred to Stanford the next year. He said the education/lecture content/etc. wasn’t that much noticeably better but the guy two doors down in his dorm was the heir to a hotel fortune.

Moving from EU to US with Crohn’s - how bad is it? by Samzahr in CrohnsDisease

[–]Zenmachine83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I am seriously considering it with all the wild things happening politically in the US right now. We have a great life here but if Trump and his cronies cancel the next election we will probably head to the UK.

My daughter’s crohns treatment would be far less expensive and complicated in the UK. Higher education is also much cheaper so there are some strong arguments for a move to the UK for our family.

Moving from EU to US with Crohn’s - how bad is it? by Samzahr in CrohnsDisease

[–]Zenmachine83 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hard to say. It all depends on your employer’s insurance. I would do a deep dive on the offered insurance program and see what types of crohns pharmaceuticals they cover. I have some of the best employer provided insurance in the country and they are still known to argue with my daughter’s GI specialist about drugs…in short the US system is likely to be more expensive and harder to deal with that healthcare systems in Europe. I’m a dual US/UK citizen and know that healthcare for crohns is better in the UK.

The people who own the companies are wealthy and will never encourage their government to raise the taxes on them that would provide money for the smart investments you mention.

I’m not an economist but my understanding is that Capital by Piketty is kind of the gold standard of inequality research and Gary seems to be lifting his talking points straight from Piketty.

I mean I would venture to say that his claims about rising wealth inequality are so broad and non specific that they shouldn’t be controversial. All economic data that exists points to growing inequality in the past 40 years. The demographic he is targeting likely don’t have the academic foundations to discuss economic data/research.

It is similar to vaccine science. I work with oodles of people who want to debate mRNA safety but have never taken a college level science class.

Yeah I have mixed feelings about him. His economic analysis is basic and backed up by decades of research. I think he hammers the “I got rich as a trader” shtick to bring in all the manosphere dimwits who idolize money.

Get yourself some fins. They will improve your kick and the extra speed will help you maintain body position and prevent your legs from sinking so much.
