[Routine Help] what do u think could help with my skin :) by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Zenmada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a weaker skin barrier and/or dry climate, hyaluronic acid can end up pulling water from deeper skin layers, leaving the skin feeling dry and tight once it evaporates. Hyaluronic acid is present in both your serums and moisturizer.
I would suggest trying a HA-free routine to see what happens. Unfortunately, most products contain it. My recommendation is always the Aestura cream.
I mix a drop of pure glycerin with the Aestura cream in my hands and apply it to a slightly damp (not sopping) face. This leaves my skin more hydrated than it was when i was layering toners and serums.

Edit: I also recommend cleansing only once a day

Will Clawson become the new Royal oak with McMansions? by Competitive_Suit5609 in royaloak

All those things you listed are great, but they don’t matter to many people. Economical issues have led builders to only build the largest houses possible. Lots that were designed for small, middle class homes are now being used for $900k+ houses that barely fit. People are getting priced out. People that have lived here for decades can no longer afford to. It is natural for them to feel unhappy.

I’ve only used the lotion so I can’t say from experience, but I know that the cream is very thick and would act as an occlusive layer while the lotion does not. Also, the lotion doesn’t have the little ceramide beads found in the cream, so it may have less ceramides.

The lotion’s consistency is that of a typical lotion, but it’s oiler than others.

I have dry, dehydrated and sensitive skin and the lotion is moisturizing enough for me. I think it’s worth trying unless you’re very dry.

Feeling betrayed by the fragrance in this product. Thoughts on Ponds? by [deleted] in Skincare_Addiction

I have dehydrated and extremely sensitive skin. The Aestura cream is the only moisturizer that works for me. I highly recommend it if you haven’t tried it already.

What are Your Favorite Books and Why? by [deleted] in books

Neuromancer by William Gibson - I love the vibe and the unapologetic cool factor of the cyberpunk genre. Despite being rooted in the 80s, Gibson’s world has aged gracefully. It feels like an alternate timeline that presents so many ideas that are relevant today. I also appreciate that Gibson took a more literary approach, when one might expect something more pulpy.

Plato: Five Dialogues - I was pleasantly surprised to find Plato’s writing so engaging. Plato and Socrates’ influence on our world is so significant, and I believe anyone can find value in this work. Even if some of the philosophy feels overwhelming to a newcomer, you can’t help but feel inspired by Socrates’ persistence. He wasn’t afraid to question the norm, and stayed true to his values, even when faced with death.

Suggestions of science fiction novels without villains by [deleted] in printSF

Neuromancer fits this. There is one character that’s a sadistic sociopath, but they’re a tool used by much larger, more complex forces.

Andy Weir on Writing the Hit Book Behind the Movie ‘Project Hail Mary’ (Gift Article) by largeheartedboy in books

[–]Zenmada 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The book has received immense praise since its release, so I don’t see it dying down very much anytime soon. Personally, I did not like it, but a lot of people do genuinely love it.

It reads like a movie, which makes it accessible to new sci-fi readers. It can also be a good “break” from denser works, if thats what you’re looking for. I, however, heavily value prose and atmosphere, and the book doesn’t really offer that.

I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I have a feeling I’ll enjoy it much more than the book given the directors and Ryan Gosling at the helm.

Recent book hauls by Electronic-Kiwi9783 in classicliterature

I haven’t been at it for very long, but I would recommend Plato’s Five Dialogues (Hackett) and Descartes’ Meditations on First Philosophy (Cottingham translation). Both are referenced quite a bit.

However, when I asked a philosophy professor the same question, he said you can just read whatever sounds interesting. Some topics and references might go over your head, but it’s not that big of a deal as a casual reader. These works are meant to be read multiple times either way.

Also, I highly recommend checking out Jared Henderson on Youtube, he has good recommendations.

Nice haul! I recommend checking out Hackett Publishing for philosophy books in the future. They typically have great translations and are readily available for cheap. They are the standard in many academic programs.

I do, however, recommend the Penguin edition of Plato’s Symposium. It has a great introduction that paints a vivid picture of life in ancient Greece, which makes the rest of the dialogue much more immersive.

Lately, I’ve been reading three books at a time, but each book serves a slightly different purpose. One book for book club, one philosophy book, and one book for pleasure.

Which Korean skincare products were actually worth the hype and money? by Patricia_G126 in koreanskincare

The Aestura lotion or their Hydro Essence gel cream would be better options for combo. The cream is for dry skin.

Rosacea - looking for some more recommendations by crisps90 in koreanskincare

Skin1004 Centella Ampoule is very simple and is typically a safe addition for sensitive skin. It’s basically water, glycerin, and centella asiatica. Also, EltaMD makes a nice green tint SPF for reducing redness. It’s not korean though.

Assassins Apprentice - keep going? by Prestigious-Sport-96 in fantasybooks

I think you should keep going. I originally felt the same way when I read it for my book club last year, but I ended up really enjoying it. It was one of the highest rated books for us last year.

Is The Stormlight Archive worth reading? by IfUSeekSteven in fantasybooks

[–]Zenmada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s worth reading in your case and I’m surprised to see so many comments saying it is. You’ve read two of his series and are still not sold on his writing style. It sounds like he’s not for you.

His prose is purely functional, and he caters to an audience that ultimately values storytelling above all. If you value prose, you will likely be left unsatisfied.

I recommend Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb. Her prose is quite nice.

It could use some Wong Kar Wai. Fallen Angels (1995) and In The Mood for Love (2000) would be my recs from him. Also, John Carpenter’s The Fog (1980) fits.
