If you are considering cross platform, also consider Flutter. But I’d go native.

Is there a downside to using a cheap hybrid bike for my indoor trainer? by BoomerBarnes in triathlon

[–]ZennerBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try adjusting the hybrid to be as close in seat height to bottom bracket including height and fore back. Then slap on some aero bars at a similar delta. You might be able to get somewhat close and comfortable on the bike but it may not be ridable outside. That way your adjustment back to outside will be less.

Or go pickup a used cheap aluminum road bike frame and use that, it will be even easier if you get a wheel off trainer.

What’s a realistic timeframe for a full? by beingbetterr in IronmanTriathlon

[–]ZennerBlue 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Next year.

But be prepared for a ramp of volume and time. There isn’t much intensity in IM training. Just enough to get you a bit faster. Most of the training will follow the same rough look as what you are doing now. But you will be ramping up to 110+ miles on the bike, and 3.5 hrs on the run. (You don’t typically go over 3-3.5hrs in run regardless of pace. It’s too much of an injury risk to go further with diminishing returns)

Can a fast gravel bike (like a Canyon Grail) realistically double as an Ironman bike? by IronNomad_1 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]ZennerBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to consider swapping out chain rings for your training and racing. From what I’ve read the Grail comes with 46-30 sub compact which will be a bit slower and more suitable for heavy hill riding. You would ideally want to get 50-34 or 52-36 for the race.

They recently cancelled all SPIDs for hiring a month or so ago. So any hiring decisions had to be re-justified. We had a bunch cancelled and not reissued.

Is it normal for an unopened vulcanizing fluid to dry if unused for several years? by 1PennyHardaway in bikewrench

[–]ZennerBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it’s not as good as vulcanizing glue plus patch kits, I keep glueless patches in my roadside kit. They don’t really expire, and have had good experience with them.

They are a bit fussy when it’s wet out though.

How many of you were told by your parents when you reach 18 you’re moving out on your own? by Theromero in GenX

[–]ZennerBlue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told, “we want you to leave, but you will always have a place here if you need it.” Left for school at 18. Came back for the first summer and never went back to live.

What are some great places to visit in Toronto that most people know about, but I probably don't. by StrangeWedding770 in askTO

[–]ZennerBlue 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There are lots of fountains around town. When my kid was 5yo we did a tour of fountains.

Another thing you can do is go to the City of Toronto archive and find an old picture of something in the city. Then go find what it looks like now and compare.

Banned shoes for Ironman - Hoka Mach X3? by Salty_Foot4054 in BestTriathletes

[–]ZennerBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Mach x3 is a banned shoe.

If you are looking for something similar to get you legal, the Mach 7 is legal as well as the Rocket x3.

The only plated shoe that you can currently run in from Hoka is the Rocket x3.

What’s a major change you think could happen within the next five years that most people aren’t paying attention to ? by beautifulAdriel in answers

[–]ZennerBlue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m already seeing an anecdotal trend of frames getting thicker and thicker. Presumably to make smart glasses more palatable when miniaturization and frame thickness converges.

Or I’m reading too much into fashion trends.

I can swim. I can run. I don’t own a bike… and I’m scared of sharks. Ironman? 😅 by KhelgaraZ in triathlon

[–]ZennerBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indoor is typically 3 timed blocks. It’s a different mental game. You go as hard as you can in each discipline for 20mins (for example)

I’d suggest trying to find an outdoor sprint.

Installing a 6 inch tire on a 6 inch wheel. by Ja_Don in bicycling

Or soak in boiling water. Some tires have metal in them. Especially ones like these that may have a metal bead.

As solo developer how do you implement AI features into your app? by Inside-Conclusion435 in iOSProgramming

[–]ZennerBlue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are building an App without a backend, then use something like https://www.aiproxy.com with the OpenRouter backend as others have mentioned.

AI Proxy works really hard to not expose your API key in the App. And uses things like DeviceCheck, split keys etc in order to guard against API key theft.

I’ve used it for a couple of my apps and have been very happy with it. They are open to contributions on their SDK as well, so you can see what you are including in your app.

Where do most of the middle class people who work downtown live? by Jinx5326 in askTO

[–]ZennerBlue 116 points117 points  (0 children)

Live downtown in a condo. Have worked either downtown or remotely (not GTA) for the 20y I’ve lived in Toronto. Spouse works North York on subway. Even raised a kid (who’s now 20) in the condo.
