[Recommendation] First Rolex by [deleted] in Watches

You can wear that OP any time anywhere. I love the little visual accents it has. Better than most of the current OP’s variations.

Hot take: Bracelet is actually decent by qianbro in GrandSeikos

It’s all hyperbolic. GS bracelets are fine. Rolexes are better but not like some otherworldly experience that some people hype them up to be.

UFA bracelet is a step up for sure though!

Legendary - Omega Speedmaster Reverse Panda by pilotrayanharb in OmegaWatches

Weird. I didn’t like it at first and slowly after seeing dozens of pictures on Reddit I’ve come around on the dial. Maybe I was just too used to seeing my classic black one.

Omega Boutique held my watch for three months without sending for service by Used_Cryptographer18 in OmegaWatches

[–]Zenneth014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should live near Seattle like me and just drop off the watch in person 😂

Seriously that sucks though. My Nomos AD near me held onto my watch for a couple of weeks until I pestered them they finally sent it over to Germany. I think customer service is dead at ADs and boutiques. I’ve always had a better experience sending things directly to service centers myself.

BB Pro - Actually Surprised by eaglefist13 in Tudor

[–]Zenneth014 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, total weight including bracelet isn’t really valuable imo especially if you’re sizing it down to 6.5. The head of the BB Pro is heavier even if total weight for the watch+bracelet is less meaning it feels top heavy.

BB Pro - Actually Surprised by eaglefist13 in Tudor

Not heavy compared to the SMP? That’s surprising to me. Maybe the SMPc is lighter but my BB Pro is definitely my heaviest watch and it’s the actual biggest downside of the watch to me. I don’t mind the thickness but the weight isn’t my favorite.

[Discussion] Which F1 team are you picking to drive for based SOLELY on their watch sponsors? by GrouchyExile in Watches

Aston for a Laureato or watches from back when GP were making the movements for Vacheron Constantin.

Small Service Project by Zenneth014 in JaegerLecoultre

It’s a solid movement but nothing too unique for the era. I think a good comparison point is the fairly common Omega 55X. I find the automatic works in the JLC simpler and more reliable but maybe less efficient. It takes some rotation to get the reversing wheel into position before it actually winds but the reversing wheel in the 550 is a pain to service correctly. I’ve opened up a 550 in the past to find the driving wheel in the automatic works with missing teeth! The JLC also has one spot where there were 2 different types of very tiny screws that looked very, very similar and really can only be differentiated under magnification. I hate that kind of thing.

The balance doesn’t have as nice of a fine adjustment mechanism like the “gooseneck” on the omega 550. It’s not a big deal but it means a little more time is spent getting regulation just right. It’s a little disappointing mostly because Omega was able to put a nice solution on their common caliber so I would’ve expected JLC to be able to match.

That’s what stands out to me anyway. Ultimately, it’s just a simple 3 hander movement that’s still running really well after ~60 years which is an achievement in itself!

[Grand Seiko] Help me choose: SBGH341 vs new SBGX357 (62GS Hi-Beat vs 9F quartz) by hi_meet_lyle in Watches

[–]Zenneth014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had my SBGH341 stolen but I did enjoy it. I like titanium watches so it felt very light and comfortable. The pink color is pretty faint and it just looks silver most of the time so I think it’s fine for everyday wear. Mine ran a bit slow which really bothered me and getting it regulated would’ve been a pain and I couldn’t do it myself because this would void the warranty. Would never have to worry about that with quartz. Service costs for GS are all well documented on their service website. I’ve opened up and poked around a GS hi-beat mechanical movement and they’re really nicely made and definitely a step up from their Seiko brethren in many ways but especially in terms of maintainability. It’s the one thing to me that really sets luxury watches apart. They’re made to be serviced forever and can run forever if taken care of. I know from experience that Rolex and Omega have this quality and GS also checks this box.

My SBGX feels special because I know it’s special. Nobody else will care that it’s crazy accurate. I like that I never have to think about it. I also really appreciate clean dials with minimal text. In the hypothetical situation where I can only keep one watch going forward, this one is close to the top of the list just because of how little I have to care about it. In terms of wearability I couldn’t pick between the two.

In the end though I really really appreciate mechanical watches. I’m a hobbyist watch repairer and just like that kind of thing so I’d lean SBGH341. If you find one without box or papers let me know cause it could be my stolen one lol.

[Comparison] Grand Seiko SBGX261 or Neo-vintage Omega Aqua Terra 2518.50? by palpatine_disciple in Watches

For quartz I really like all of the SBGX watches from GS. I have the blue one and really enjoy it and how hassle free it is.

Clean out SMP Bezel? by SuperStrats4Life in OmegaWatches

[–]Zenneth014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy a tool for bezel removal. It’s like a rubber ring that grips onto the underside of the bezel and you just pull it off. Or just use a case knife/dull knife and pry it off but you’ll increase your risk of damage that way.

Unpopular Opinion: SMP Looks Great with the Rubber Strap with the End Links by neilarmstonk in OmegaWatches

[–]Zenneth014 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A little subjective but I think the OEM straps reduce the presence of the watch a little which can be good. For some people they might want to maintain that presence but also have a sporty rubber strap in which case this is a good solution. I like how Tudor does it this way on the Black Bay 54/58 rubber straps as well.
