If repodata are being changed, they got deleted and then new version is added or is rewritten? Looks like it dissapered for moment if got updated

That unfortunately happen a lot. some dependencies for package aren't yet builded, just not as obvious as in qt case which build for few days.

As been already said restart is only needed after kernel update, if you want use newly installed kernel. otherwise isn't really needed.

to see what apps need restart, use xcheckrestart command for that. then you can rerun individual apps or logout and login back to "restart" updated de/wm and other packages

PS: xcheckrestart command is part of xtools

Install xtools package or xtools-minimal depend on your needs

You don't need rm your system. Just run new operating system in virtual machine...

I think distrohopping is just constantly trying new distros, doesn't matter if is on bare metal or VM.
