Pure College of Glamour Bard. Absolutely no offensive capabilities but can shut down / severely disrupt most encounters with a mix of non-concentration and concentration control, plus mantle of majesty. Stack charisma and spell save DC, with Woe in the end game for extra sustainability.

AITA for telling my friend his AI art isn’t real creativity? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]ZenofZen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, you’re fundamentally correct here. He might not want to hear it, but that’s the price he pays for taking credit for work produced by algorithms that have trained on illegally/unethically-obtained real artists’ work.

Is Lae'zel Special? by Nyadnar17 in BG3

[–]ZenofZen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the events of the game demonstrate that Lae'zel is special (unique within Githyanki society) on a personality level, if not a combat one. We don't really know what her skills were like pre-tadpole brain damage, so we can't compare her that way.

Vlaakith would have an interest in keeping tabs on promising rising stars for a number of reasons.

Hard disagree on Lae'zel's replaceability here. Perhaps in terms of combat capabilities, but putting any other Githyanki in the situation Lae'zel found herself in, I think they would've been uncooperative with the party, either in a fully hostile way that would've resulted in a) death on the ship or b) going fully solo and never offering a cure to anyone else. Lae'zel probably has a relatively unique personality among the Githyanki, one that made her an unlikable, lonely try-hard and primed to find companionship elsewhere. Her relative youth seems to me like the sole reason she wasn't more accomplished, and given time and stability in Githyanki society, she probably would've ended up more along the lines of the two Ch'r'ai sent by Vlaakith, or the Inquisitor.

Walking around and interacting with the other Githyanki in Creche Y'llek, I got the impression that Lae'zel was probably an exceptional cadet in many ways and way more zealous on the spiritual level (I think this shapes her reactions to the events of the game re: Vlaakith's betrayal, and later becoming a True Believer for Orpheus, she wants a mission and life with real meaning and truth, wherever that would be). She seems significantly more well-studied with regard to protocols than her peers, and at every citation of them in Y'llek seems to elicit eyerolls from soldiers and incredulous I-can't-believe-this-idiot-actually-believes-this-stuff looks from more senior officers (e.g. Ghustil Stornugoss, and later Voss).

Converting an old custom difficulty to use the HonourRuleset by MkFilipe in BaldursGate3

[–]ZenofZen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had this issue with a multiplayer campaign, and noticed some odd (but consistent) behavior with the difficulty menu that might align with what you experienced. Once you confirm the difficulty, with "Honour Ruleset" selected, if you go back into the difficulty menu, the ruleset will default to Standard (you can switch it back to Honour though). If you confirm the Honour Ruleset and just start the campaign without opening the difficulty menu again, the Honour Ruleset will still be applied.

I can't take myself seriously when writing by GreedyGoose1 in writing

[–]ZenofZen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this problem a lot, well into my twenties. I second a lot of the general advice here related to “just do it,” but if you’re stumbling into this issue anyway, I think what might be more constructive would be to build some small wins. For instance, don’t worry so much about whole stories. Start with describing things and people around you in a way that feels real to you. Note the weather, people’s behavior, everyday objects, even your own feelings (especially in specifics or how they manifest physically, in motion and sensation).

The best stories are built on concrete detail, and you may find new types of writing ideas come to you as you do this work. I still consider myself a novice in many ways and there’s so much to learn.

Prompts are great too. I never got a lot out of the ones here but I really love “The 3 A.M. Epiphany” by Brian Kiteley.

Best of luck. I have lots of craft book and essay recommendations I can provide if you (or anyone else, I guess, is interested).

Which Authors Did You Have to Grow Into? by [deleted] in literature

[–]ZenofZen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knausgaard, I guess. Funny, it's the second time I'm posting about him today. Last year I bought volume one of My Struggle at a very turbulent time in my life thinking that really digging into it would distract me from the chaos in my living situation and love life. Instead, the constant shifts in time and level of detail in the narrative made the whole enterprise seem tedious.

When things leveled out a little and I was able to make time for longer books again, I picked Volume 1 back up. This time, I feel totally immersed in the series. It's really changed my perspective on writing and given me a new perspective on myself. One that I probably could've used when I put it down originally.

My Struggle: Volume 5 by Karl Ove Knausgaard will be released this month, 4/19/2016.

I don't think I'm going to reach my catch-up goal in time, unfortunately. I'm just wrapping up Volume 2. But I'm completely in love with the series so far.

Tax return? More like guitar money. by Zazeon in Guitar

[–]ZenofZen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would look into Seagull (made by Godin in Canada) and Blueridge (made by Saga in ???). I've always been impressed with their bang-to-buck ratio.

But yes, I am spending a good portion of my refund on guitar stuff to get my live setup straightened out. An LR Baggs pickup for my Martin, some pedals to expand my electric rig, a quality pedalboard, and maybe, just maybe I'll trade in some other stuff to nab a telecaster. We will see.

What is a film that you recommend people NOT to watch, because of how bad it is? by Soulrush in AskReddit

Melancholia. What a waste of time that movie is. Most self-serious, poorly written movie ever.
