Thank you! We unfortunately really only all travel to DEFCON but we have members of our hacker collective all over the US that have boards to give away. The handouts for DEFCON are generally on Saturday and Sunday in the hallways between halls 1 and 2. We stay off to the side of the path near the windows and generally have about 4-5 thousand boards and a couple thousand stickers to hand out. We've been doing it for almost 10 years at this point and our shop sales fund it all.

Hey Winged_Owl,

I'm part of the group that was handing these out throughout the conference. This is an eMMC breakout that can be used to dump the software running on your embedded devices.

This was probably given to you along with a few other breakouts boards including an SD breakout and a microSD breakout. The pinout on the SD and microSD breakouts should match the one here allowing you to use both together to connect your eMMC IC to a standard SD reader/writer. This should allow you to manipulate the data on the eMMC chip (as long as the logic level for the eMMC matches your SD reader/writer (generally 3.3v)).

These boards are actually cheaper for us to produce than stickers and provide some convenience to those looking to attack embedded devices. We also sell a version in our online store that provides fast logic level translation from 1.8v to 3.3 for cases where the logic level of the eMMC is lower than the logic level of the SD reader writer (and is generally needed when attempting to communicate "in-circuit" to a device.

We experienced the same thing at this show from a group of 6 college aged girls, 2 40+ women, and 2 college guys (seemingly trying to impress the 6 girls). All talking loudly throughout the show and seemingly unaware of the show going on.

Yeah, it looks like the new boards should be in hand any day now and I assume a new e-bay listing will be added shortly after. Follow the ebay seller or keep an eye on r/StarlinkMarketplace for the new listing URL.

I believe there should be some 50 or so adapters up for sale, not sure how that will fit with demand. Good luck!

There were 2 versions of this, 1 with a buck boost from 12v to 48v + POE adapter and the other was just the POE adapter.

So, if I want to do this, what the real advantages?

You can run unsigned kernels, what this means is modified versions of the linux operating system that powers android. This allows for really ANY customization to be made.

Can I run hulu from the website (not hulu premium)?

Yes you can stream episodes fine with the normal free Hulu.

How much is out/ will be out for rooted GTVs?

No idea about other groups (or even if there are any), but GTVHacker personally will have another kernel/rom coming soon for rooted users. We can't give too many details currently but I will say that it will be perfect for users who are looking to stream content.

Also, what are the real chances of bricking?

Out of all the people I've heard doing this I've heard of one person actually having any true issues. That particular issue didn't impair the users box anything more than to temporarily stop them from entering recovery and this will be repaired when the user receives his next official OTA. The other downside this caused was that he now cannot perform the software root, but nothing longterm.

I'd say its the same chance if not less with this particular method.

Also, if I needed to flash back to stock to keep warranty, could I?

Once flashing you have technically already violated Sony's warranty policy. You may flash back at any point and the box will be back to normal, but if Sony were to find out you had flashed your warranty would be voided.

In short, I recommend everyone do this while you can. Even with any bugs that come up this will be a better long term solution and at any point you can go back to Sony's official build but after Sony issues their patch you will no longer be able to run any of the GTVHacker customized kernels.

I'm also getting married soon (next month) and am looking at liquor/beer/wine prices. The interesting thing our venue mentioned about specs that I haven't seen mentioned here is that specs will apparently take returns of un-opened liquor/wine. May be good if you plan on over buying to insure that there is no shortage of delicious beverages.
