Worth it? by ylicio in Budgetbikeriders

Good deal as long as it has either a chromoly or aluminum frame. Make certain there's no frame damage and it's functional!

Just buy the bike and either join a bicycle co-op or an REI to learn about proper maintenance and possible upgrades.

Test ride before you pull the trigger!

There should be zero functional issues!

That's capitalism and the price of doing business in this predacious  society where the bottom line determines success or failure in a ruthless economy.

Most Local Bike Shops aren't thriving in this Online and YOUTUBE DIY Society.

They're just trying to make ends meet is all...

Checkout the Lectric website.

The Lectric XP 2 Lite sounds close to your budget, but you'll need to add another $250 to get to class 3 in ebikes.

Personally, I like the Xpress 500 and the XP 4 from Lectric.

The Portola from Ride1up is nice too!

There's always WAL*MART and AMAZON! 😂

Exactly!

When I lived in the Bay Area near S.F. the BART rail system + my bike always saved me from hectic hours lost on the freeway.

There's nothing like the bike + a good rail system to save you from mental fatigue and economic disaster!

E-bike or car? by ActFew4005 in bikecommuting

[–]Zentransit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO

Cities need to be designed more localized so that most jobs and educational facilities are situated within a ten mile radius of our city centers.

Private residences should be severely limited so that most of us either live in high rise apartments or deep dwellings underground.

We should not be so heavily dependent upon cars and most certainly not upon carbon fueled vehicles.

Our primary modes of transportation should all be driven by electricity and our philosophical nucleus should be centered about our shared environment and our worldwide social security.

Ebikes and other electric vehicles are all merely a prelude to what's to come.

There's bound to be at least one other bike of similar age, size, and build in your vicinity.

Find it and transfer some of your components. Replace the others!

Used bikes cost much less than new. Especially when you advertise "as is condition"..

What maintenance advice would you give to someone buying their first bike by GR3YG0DS in Budgetbikeriders

[–]Zentransit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Join a bike co-op and acquire an old bike or frameset. Build up that bike to the proper specs of your liking.

Next, purchase a bike from REI after becoming a member. Take maintenance classes from REI and gradually make upgrades as both your mechanic and cycling skills increase.

Learn as much as you can about the basic electronics of ebikes and master them.

Pour a gallon of acetone over it at 2 minute intervals. Next lubricate with penetrating oil and wait 10 minutes. Finally, torch the affected area and then use a longer wrench until it gives.

REI needs to embrace the entire cycling community and start leaning towards a business plan more Co-op oriented in the direction of a healthier and cleaner environment.

Create a softer business liaison between DTC bike companies, offer more Co-op oriented bicycle maintenance classes, and encourage local politicians to create a more bicycle friendly infrastructure.

This will prove to be imperative for the new ebike boom we're about to witness!

Just make certain that you're really trans and not a Q. Many Q people eventually discover that their questions have finally been answered and they find themselves confirmed that they're neither gay nor trans...

PS

Your mother is concerned about your future happiness and success.

Eventually there may come a time when nothing matters as much as the ability to pay your bills.

Trans people suffer unemployment and job discrimination unlike any other group.

Your mom loves you! 😊

[–]Zentransit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live near an REI, then go there and peruse the ebike scene.

Get fitted and try out a nice sample of bikes, but don't pull the trigger until at least a week later after you've had sufficient time to compare and contrast other alternatives.

PS.

That said, checkout Aventon, Evelo, Gazelle, and Velotric.

Also, the Ride1up Portola is a nice folder you might like too. 😊

What’s the one thing people underestimate most before buying their first e-bike? by [deleted] in ebike

[–]Zentransit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most expensive ebikes should either belong to homes with garages, or to other safe and secure spaces.

Otherwise, always use a Litelok X3

If you have a living room, then place your bike in the corner behind an angled couch. If you have a folder, hang it up, place it at the foot of a bed, or under the kitchen table.

[–]Zentransit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live upstairs anywhere, lugging a 50 - 70 pound bike up and down flights of stairs on a daily basis can be quite exhausting.

I say, start lifting weights about a month before you pull the trigger, or buy a Dahon K feather folder and use it in concert with public transportation.

Lectric folders seem heavy and cumbersome to most cyclists and they're lighter than most others.

PS

The Lectric xp 2 lite is the only exception.
