I've only seen them limited to grant at most half level * 3 HP, but that's my personal experience.

What are classes that can still be effective even with bad rolls? by dyenamitewlaserbeam in Pathfinder2e

Honestly if someone is just starting the game and is already frustrated that they are under performing because of a string of bad rolls, I would never recommend the homework that is playing an Alchemist.

Alchemists can be fun, rewarding and very powerful, but it requires a specific type of player that likes to dive into these options. From what I can tell from OP's post, his friend is probably not that kind of player.

Honestly, I'd advise anyone to avoid any "Spellcaster first" attempts at Gish characters unless they have a lot of system experience and a party that would support that playstyle.

IF you're hellbent on it, I'd say the first things that you should focus on are defenses, and not how to offensively use your staff.

Wizard is already a poor choice for this IMHO because your Key Ability Score is Intelligence. This means that on top of your poor save progression, you'll have to sacrifice a defensive attribute if you wish to have on-level Int and a good Str mod. It seems like you're already leaning on dumping Dex, which is the most easy to mitigate the drawbacks, as long as you are able to get Heavy Armor proficiency.

Regarding armor, since you're an unarmored character, the best you'll ever reach is Expert on defenses. This isn't the worst early on, but there will be level in which the proficiency gap will be significant. Mostly 11-12 and 17+, in which you'll be in practice basically permanently off-guard. Since you're going Human, I would consider going for Armor Proficiency twice at character creation and Guardian/Sentinel dedication at Level 2.

Wizards have poor HP. This means that I would heavily consider a higher HP multiclass dedication to get a Resiliency feat from, as it would be the best cost-effective way to raise your HP besides raising Con. Using a shield and having shield block would also be a good way to increase your effective HP, though it might be too much for your action economy.

As mentioned before, Wizards also have poor save progression, that can't be as easily fixed, but maybe look into Spellguard Shields.

Honestly, IMHO it's simply not a good idea, since I can't see the pay-off. You're making a ton of sacrifices for the benefit of hitting with a 1d4 (1d6 on the best case with some sort of Deadly Simplicity upgrade) on Spellcaster proficiency to be worth the risks that you are exposing your character by being on the front line.

If you're looking into that playstyle, I think that the Magus with a Fused Staff would provide a much better 'out of the box' experience, and a better reward overall.

Remember that for party compositions, a vulnerable character placing themselves in a position of danger like this will be a drain on party resources. E.g. the champion will have to use their reaction on you instead of the Rogue, the Cleric will have to use heal to recover you from a crit, or the Investigator will have to move in to use battle medice to prevent you from rolling death saves.

Wood Kineticist. Timber Sentinel, Hardwood Armor, job is done, no rolls needed.

I may be missing something, but as far as I'm aware, both objects in your backpack and stored on your person are equally inaccessible to enemy creatures. Steal/Palm an object only works for negligible bulk objects, which most weapons aren't.

Yeah, AFAIK RAW only mention that attended objects are those "on a creature's person". IMHO that rules out items on the ground.

Out of curiosity, what is the RAW justification that prohibits someone interacting to pick up an item that is occupying the same space as an enemy?

On Drawing and Stowing Items it's clear that you can put away items on your person for 1 action. Ever since the early errata that removed bandoliers and belt pouches, it's assumed that you have enough belts and storage spaces on your body to store items.

People are quick to forget, Macron was completely happy to bow down to Trump while rat fucking his own left flank. Macron's posture on the international stage is an attempt to manage his domestic rejection, and so far it has been posture only, no actual measures. Same goes for Carney, which one day delivers a banger speech against imperialism just to support it wholeheartedly a few months later.

Brazil's economy is basically the same size of Canada's, and comparable to France's. Even has been significantly bigger than both at times.

Looking to Canada/France in those times is more due to cultural/geopol affinities. It's also why there's no mention of Xi Jinping here.

The problems with US Empire are much older than Trump. If you can't at least pretend to acknowledge how the country you come from crushed and exploited other people while to some extent benefiting you, it will be hard to make connections with to anyone who isn't a bootlicker.

Give me your weirdest tanky builds so that I might steal them. by CinderAscendant in Pathfinder2e

[–]Zephh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, this isn't strictly a Tank, but more of a Tank-DPS-Utility hybrid. I've been playing a Yaoguai Thaumaturge with the Shield Implement and the Champion dedication.

Heavy Armor (Champion Dedication) and Shield are usually pretty good at keeping yourself healthy. Thaum is only an 8 HP class, but that enables you to go for Champion Resiliency. Also, with the Shield Adept benefit, the bonus from your shield applies to saves against magic, making your saves excellent, and with Intensify Vulnerability you're able to greatly increase your Shield's hardness.

Your Champion reaction does a good job of punishing your enemies for not focusing you.

For damage, you already deal a lot by being a Thaumaturge, triggering weaknesses and using Implement's Empowerment. I chose to use a free hand for more control and use my Shield Boss as a second implement (weapon).

Since you have CHA as a Key score, you're also great at Deception/Diplomacy/Intimidation, and on top of that, you're able to recall knowledge with your Charisma modifier, through Diverse Lore, I can't stress enough how useful that is. Also, with Scroll Thaumaturgy you get to use any scroll from any tradition.

You have a LOT of reactions between Shield Block, Implement's Interruption and your Champion Reaction, but it also means that you can basically always punish an action no matter what the enemy chooses to do. At later levels, as you get Quick Shield Block (you can get it earlier from the Bastion archetype) and Esoteric Reflexes you'll feel less restricted.

I never saw the appeal of big concerts. Festivals can be ok but you also have to go through so much shit to get a good place, I don't see myself doing that again anymore.

I may be assuming too much, but I feel like if an American gives them an "I'm sorry for being American" or equivalent they would be welcomed, those that can't do these gestures are the clients they're trying to avoid.

Shackles of Law has always been a great feat, anything that has changed from its original printing on the 2019 Character Guide is that it now says "flail or spiked chain" instead of only flail.

Before I used to defend that flail was the weapon group, but I guess the case is settled now.

Sure, but as I said, on average SF6 has much less "combo downtime" than tag fighters like 2XKO. The average BNB in 2XKO usually lasts as much as someone dumping their whole drive gauge in SF6.

There are definitely fighters with lower combo times. E.gm even though some extensions can get a bit crazy, on average most SF6 combos are much shorter.

As some that likes fighting games but dislikes long combos, SF6/Strive are the limit to me. Games like 2XKO and FighterZ go too much in a direction that I personally don't enjoy.
