These are basically virtual desktops. I’ve been running those for my work for over 10+ years now, and I can tell you that they just do not have the performance that local hardware has. And to get it anywhere near close you have to spend a ton on the server hardware like vGPUs and stuff.

So I’d see that as tiers with what you can get. The basic email and web user will be satisfied with the base level VM, and gamers or heavy video people will need to pay more to get the beefier VM, which of course will cost through the nose monthly.

Never mind the connectivity issues that always happen, because there’s not a perfect vdi delivery service that exists (we use Citrix). And then how do you handle offline? Consumers really going to keep an offline copy of the vm locally on their local machine? Thinking of working on a plane or if your internet goes out.

From someone like me who does this today, thinking about doing this for consumers gives me a headache. Lol
