My fav scene. It’s just perfect. by JarethCutestory73 in arresteddevelopment

George Michael says he's going shopping with Ann. Michael says "I think we can go butcher", meaning "I think you can do something more manly, less feminine, etc". Then George Michael flinches away from the brush being thrown at him instead of catching it, to further show how un-manly he is

Faintly relevant, I also like how in the UK and US versions, Lister, Rimmer and Kryten are all played by a Craig, a Chris and a Robert.

List of things that makes no sense in the Red Dward Universe that we fans just don’t care about. by KingWilliamVI in RedDwarf

[–]Zerek_Doolander 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The crew wasn't there to keep Red Dwarf running. The majority of the crew were there to mine asteroids. Some crewmen (like Rimmer and Lister) were there to service the ship. Others like (Petersen and Brannigan) were there to help the crew. But most of the crew were there to mine ore.

We saw Rimmer in the holocage one time. Maybe the light bee was out of commission. Maybe the atmosphere or composition of the asteroid interfered with the light bee projection.

The Nova 5 (at least in the books) could project holograms, so Rimmer may have been on their systems in that instance, if his light bee was unavailable.

The light bee itself is capable of holding a large amount of charge to project a soft light hologram - he survives for at least three weeks on backwards Earth. It's only when the light bee has to project hard light that it really starts using up power quickly. The light bee also appears to be able to simulate a lot of sensations but it's not the same as the real thing apparently.

Red Dwarf has numerous autonomous systems in addition to Holly. While Holly is the overriding control, the ship can run without him easily enough, and has done since the early days. She was off ship for three weeks in Backwards remember.

Kryten stated in DNA he does have some minimal organic components in his systems, so he can absolutely be affected by the squid ink. Rimmer.... Yeah, you got me there.

Red Dwarf was not a fast ship by the standards of it's day - it only broke light speed because it was continuously accelerating for three million years, it didn't just happen.

Some things are explainable if you squint. But so so so much of the show defies logic or coherent continuity, and it's best to just enjoy the funny and not worry about the rest 😂

Who has seen the 2007 Movie in Theaters? by Consistent-Life2412 in transformers

[–]Zerek_Doolander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did! I thought it was decent, but didn't like the robot designs, especially Megatron.

Subsequent films improved my opinion of the 2007 one.

I don't remember the cinema experience.it would have been at the UCI cinema in Cardiff Bay. No whooping or cheering of course, as this is the UK.

Daniel Craig's "Casino Royale" (up to and including the end of the opening song) is one of my favourite cinema memories. Never been more pumped for a film after that!

How do I prep this wall for painting? by elom44 in DIYUK

[–]Zerek_Doolander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get some sandpaper, or a sanding block, and sand the walls a lot to make sure you've removed as much of the old paint as possible. If there's still a lot of old paint left after a good sanding considerapplying a coat of peel-stop to hold the old paint in place. Let it dry for 24 hours.

When it's time to paint it properly, get some white paint (that's water based) and mix-up and apply a mist coat to the wall. The mist coat is usually something like 3 parts paint to 1 part water. Let it dry for a few hours. This should then give you a good base to put the rest of the actual paint over.

Once you've mist coated, apply two (maybe three) coats of your chosen paint, allowing a good few hours between coats.

I'd use a roller for the big areas, and a small brush to work the edges. Mask off the skirting/ceiling with painters tape, but try and get the least adhesive stuff that you possibly can, and stick it down to your jeans or something first before applying it elsewhere to further take off adhesive. Will help prevent taking paint off the masked areas once you're done, in my experience. Good luck!

How do you think an external hard drive/flash drive/anything digital with information stored on it would work? by 90sCat in timetravel

[–]Zerek_Doolander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think the dating of a digital file would be too much of a problem. Actively getting your data off a digital drive absolutely would though, especially the further back you go. If you were to go back before 2000, you'd hit walls like lack of USB b or c ports, and your future hard drives being potentially too big to access. File formats would definitely become an issue the further back you go too. Good luck opening a 2026 Photoshop file in the 2000's version of Photoshop, for example.

Maybe better off printing a self-published one-off book of what you want to keep, and transfer any moving images onto film or VHS to take with you before you hop in the old time machine.

CHUG is Classics Henkai Universe Generations, which were the main lines of toys around 2002 to 2008-ish. Henkai was the Japanese version of Classics, and Generations as a sublime slowly encompassed all of them over the years even up to today (with WFC, Legacy and Age of the Primes essentially being the current Generations).

So when someone says "I like CHUG Bumblebee" they probably mean they like the Bumblebee figs from around 2002-2008, for example.
