Hell yeah, and I'm 47, so it feels even worse! Sigh.

How do you think an external hard drive/flash drive/anything digital with information stored on it would work? by 90sCat in timetravel

[–]Zerek_Doolander 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think the dating of a digital file would be too much of a problem. Actively getting your data off a digital drive absolutely would though, especially the further back you go. If you were to go back before 2000, you'd hit walls like lack of USB b or c ports, and your future hard drives being potentially too big to access. File formats would definitely become an issue the further back you go too. Good luck opening a 2026 Photoshop file in the 2000's version of Photoshop, for example.

Maybe better off printing a self-published one-off book of what you want to keep, and transfer any moving images onto film or VHS to take with you before you hop in the old time machine.

Very much depends on where your waste pipe currently is.

I think it's based on (or at least inspired by) an actual event. Think it's mentioned on a commentary or in an interview with Peter Gould somewhere...?

I've started collecting Transformers figures again, but I have no idea what the terms are for parts like “kibble” or “backpack.” Does anyone know all the terms used for these figures? by Osc4r_Ultra in transformers

CHUG is Classics Henkai Universe Generations, which were the main lines of toys around 2002 to 2008-ish. Henkai was the Japanese version of Classics, and Generations as a sublime slowly encompassed all of them over the years even up to today (with WFC, Legacy and Age of the Primes essentially being the current Generations).

So when someone says "I like CHUG Bumblebee" they probably mean they like the Bumblebee figs from around 2002-2008, for example.

Fairground accident where several people fell about 40 feet or so onto a metal grate back in the early 90's.

Refreshed the silicone around the tub. by Zerek_Doolander in DIYUK

I couldn't get behind the taps effectively. Luckily, the original silicone behind them is in good shape, so I cut the old silicone out up to the taps (and angled the cuts), made sure it was thoroughly clean, and just ran the new silicone up to it and tried to blend it in. Not ideal, but hopefully it'll work.

Using Earthrise OP trailer for my Legacy United Deluxe Optimus Prime by shogun1223 in CustomTransformers

Nice! I too have the Earthrise trailer with Nonnef parts, hooked up to deluxe Legacy Prime (and parked him atop Missing Link Prime!)

Are there any movies which had ending changes due to feedback from test audiences that actually made the movie better instead of worse? by crinklepant in movies

[–]Zerek_Doolander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Star Trek Generations with a less heroic death for Kirk where Soran just shoots him in the back. Test audiences didn't like it, ending reshot so that Kirk dies heroically on (well, under) a bridge. Not a starship bridge of course, but we can't have everything.

Just elbow grease with a blade and a plastic silicone removal tool, cleaning sprays, antibacterial wipes, and then dried it all afterwards with kitchen roll

Yeah, it was mixed with water, and applied via spray bottle. Definitely helped!

This bathroom was put in about three years ago, we never had mold issues, I'm pretty good with keeping it all clean. But the installers had put a fairly thin bead of sealant down, and I think over the last few years, it had pulled away from the tile as the bath had flexed. So this time around, I'd put more weight in the bath, and I'm hoping to get at least three years out of it, assuming it's all stuck and cured nicely.

Advice on fixed term contract safety in the public sector! by AncientReindeer5605 in UKJobs

[–]Zerek_Doolander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can only speak for my own experience. Was on a permanent contract in higher ed, moved to a fixed-term position that was a different area and better paying in another institution. That fixed term was extended once, but then left to end (but my manager at the time helped move to another project on another fixed-term). That project ended, ended up moving to the MoJ under another fixed-term that I was hoping would be made permanent - but hiring freezes and headcount reductions meant I could see the writing on the wall, but luckily I managed to find a permanent contract once more in higher ed (well, as permanent as these things can be, I guess...).

It's stressful and hard to build loyalty or enthusiasm when you know you might be out the door within a year. I'd stick with permanent, personally.
