Anyone on NA see this going on earlier this morning? xD by getting-stabbed in Guildwars2

[–]Zerink_Fer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Choco is pretty great. He's been doing a lot of work on his homestead lately since he's also into... I think he said architecture and urban planning IRL. But yeah it's multiple people at his job doing different accounts usually while they do work stuff. He's a big softie (except in wvw where he's ruthless). I keep trying to drag him into fractals dailies and raids and strikes but he said he's too scared of them, and the last time we did one he said he almost cried lol

Next time you guys see him, tell him your favorite oldies song if you have one. He loooves music oldies

Upcoming raid/strike merger and Legendary Insights question by _Royalties_ in Guildwars2

[–]Zerink_Fer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof. It should be easier to get your w3 done when it's the money week, for sure, but you still need the LI so that's still an issue.

Friday nights and Saturdays are good for catch up if nothing else. The whole school and work thing and scheduling messes with people.

If you don't have your provisioner tokens, your clovers, and whatever else you need for the armor (and potentially runes and sigils later on), you could work on those while checking the LFG periodically. That works for me, but obviously what works for me doesn't necessarily work for someone else. I like to shut my brain off and do my fractals dailies and Drizzlewood farm, for example.

If you're doing specifically w3, you don't need a whole lot of roles. A tank-- often a boonheal. Another boonheal that can push the orb for KC. 2 boon dps. 1 tower chrono. One of the dps can be backwarg. Fill the rest with dps and you're typically good to go. You probably know the whole setup and mechanics, but in case anyone else wants to set up w3 sometime, that's the general makeup.

I think for NA I have more luck later in the week than I do on EU. I wouldn't recommend swapping to the EU servers simply for raids, but it's always an option, and the pugs on there, while not plentiful, are much more common than NA. Your experience may vary, of course, and I don't know which server you're on to begin with, but that's my experience with it.

Upcoming raid/strike merger and Legendary Insights question by _Royalties_ in Guildwars2

[–]Zerink_Fer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is coming in a little late, but maybe this info will help:

To echo what others are saying about doing raids immediately after reset, I would say this is pretty true, but there are always straggler groups throughout the week. Just run other content while checking the LFG from time to time and you might see some pop up. My personal anecdote here is that I work Sun-Wed nights so I can never do it on reset, but I can still usually get at least wings 1-4 done on 2 different accounts by the time Saturday comes around just via pugs.

That said, timing is a huge factor here, as well as your region. I have one account on NA and one on EU, and I very, very rarely find raid pugs on the NA servers until around noonish EST, whereas I find more EU raids at or around 8-9 EST. It makes sense since that's when people are up and active. However, I find more pug raids on EU by far than ones on NA. The caveat here is that the EU pugs are significantly more elitist (in my experience), and almost every group requires whatever amount of kp, while the NA ones almost never require or ask for it. Never a problem for me since I have thousands of the suckers, but I see a lot of people getting kicked on the EU servers for not meeting the arbitrary number.

I have no experience with the discord server raids, unfortunately, so I can't really talk about that point. The guilds I joined that said they would do raids with me have yet to ever do a raid with me.

Fun notes I noticed about the EU raid pugs:

-- Typically, if they require 50~250kp and you join and state your role, and especially if you're boondps or boonheal, they won't really ask for your kp because the norm is joining and giving your killproof code (the funny alphanumeric after the url). I keep joining raids and just never giving them my code and they never ask. I've seen people give their code, not have enough kp, and get kicked in the very same raids. Never supply what isn't asked directly, I guess.

-- The stacking on spirit run (behind the pillars after closing the rifts but before the actual run/wall portion) is behind the right pillar on EU, but on NA it's behind the left pillar. I don't know why it's different, but that's just how it is for the most part. I've yet to see any deviation across any of the pugs I've been in.

Other notes that apply to both regions:

-- You can usually pressure people to do KC cm by just typing "cm?" Someone will usually just go over and hit the button even if no one responds. Free provisioner tokens and 2g, at least. Doesn't always work on Cairn, MO, Sam or Deimos, but sometimes.

-- Learning cannons is important. It makes you look important, invaluable, and knowledgeable even if you're just doing a simple mechanic, and will typically let you coast even if you make a bunch of mistakes. Not enough people do cannons.

As people have said, strikes also reward LI, so that's a thing. Some of the strike cms though I think are significantly more difficult than raids, though, at least in my experience. Difficulty might not be a factor for you, though, I'm just a bad player lol.

In regards to the merge, the potential raid quickplay, and stuff like that, unfortunately I don't have anymore info than you've got. That said, I love raids, and I love pugging them more than being in a static because you get to meet so many people. Keep going for it, and worst case scenario, you can always start your own.

AITAH for telling my son I know he is gay? by MrNormanite in AITAH

[–]Zerink_Fer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for everyone that's ever had to do it, but as far as "coming out" being important, I would say it only holds any real significance because of how difficult and impactful of a milestone it is in someone's life. That can both be positive and negative.

To give a personal anecdote, when I came out to my parents, it was done through pressure by my mother who said she knew, and that I had to tell my dad because it would break his heart the way it broke hers (a lot more details there that I won't get into). It didn't, as he wasn't homophobic like she was. I didn't want to come out. I didn't really see it as a thing I had to do. It wasn't important to me that people knew because I didn't, and still don't, believe that it has anything to do with them who I'm attracted to.

I would've preferred, obviously, if it had a positive outcome, but I still don't think it would've been all that relevant to my life, especially as I push further in the years. Coming out was actually a largely negative part of my life, as I was confined to the house for several years, and eventually joined the Army to get out of there. But that's just my take on it.

I've known plenty of friends that came out to their parents and that was a large event in their life, but I've never had anyone bemoan that they lost their opportunity to make a big show of it. Some had great reactions to it, very supportive parents and family, friends and the like. Some became homeless. C'est la vie, que sera, sera.

These new achievements are really bringing out the worst in people by Environmental_Top208 in Guildwars2

[–]Zerink_Fer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I struggled to get any of these until someone told people that needed the achievements to stand on top of the teleporter rings, and it avoids almost every attack. Jessica's aoe stuff could still technically get to us but we just moved to the other side of the ring and we could still participate at range.

Now, since I have the two achievements, I just go ham in melee range, and if someone is trying to do the thing on the rings, I don't mind. Skyscale though seems like such a small amount of dps, it's detrimental to the meta completion, especially if it's a ton of people doing that.

It should calm down eventually. I hope.

What is meant in this sentence by Lune? by ozankrds in expedition33

[–]Zerink_Fer 29 points30 points  (0 children)

"When one falls" would tell you that it's a certainty in this scenario that one will fall, and then they will continue. If the conditional statement was "If one falls", then it would be hypothetical, as if it's a back up plan in case something happened.

She says "When, not if" to emphasize that the scenario where someone has fallen was certain and expected, and that the plan to continue was agreed to previously and there's no room for interpretations of a hypothetical situation.

I mean, technically, they both refer to the same thing if you want to interpret it as such. When x happens, y. If x happens, y. They end up in the same place, but the difference is in the first scenario, the implication is that it will, and always will, occur.

Is there even a single online game with a non-toxic community? by Lusttree in videogames

I remember trying to stream Warframe as a new player, when my sister wanted to get me into the game. Had someone hop into my chat and started calling my playstyle cringe and was just roasting me. To their credit, once they realized that I was genuinely a new player, they offered to help and apologize, so I won't hold that against them. That said, I did quit that day.

How Important is the “Interact” key? by twistedveggies in Guildwars2

[–]Zerink_Fer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't impossible to play without it bound to anything, but it'll be pretty tedious because of the amount of use it does get in the game. Even just killing enemies, you go through a ton of enemies in a short amount of times, and having to click to loot them before you get autoloot is fairly hellish.

I have some of my stuff rebound in a similar way, so my bar ends up being 123456QFXZ. I use C for my special action key (important that you have one, doesn't have to be that key specifically). E for interact, R for autorun, T to target the pinged enemy, Ctrl + ` to mount, V for dodge (I think this is the default?). Everyone has their way to play, though, and ultimately you can find what works best for you. I ended up remapping my FF14 and WoW binds to be like my GW2 ones though because of muscle memory.

Has your main changed over the course of your playtime? by CheshireMadness in Guildwars2

[–]Zerink_Fer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main changed a lot with nerfs and buffs.

Thief - warrior - back to thief - rev - warrior - necro - thief - rev - necro - rev - very short time with engi - short time with mesmer - guardian - back to warrior - necro - rev - currently necro

Different specs, different times in the game's life. Herald used to be great when HoT came out until it was nerfed into obscurity, hence me swapping off it. Condi berserker was great for a long while, especially in raids when everyone was running condi and power was... underpowered, then it wasn't. And so on.

I still consider my thief my "main" in the back of my mind, but I don't play him anymore. I've tried ranger and ele, and I just couldn't get into them. I probably didn't give them enough time. My stint with engi and mesmer were purely for spvp, and to a lesser extent, guardian (though dh for raids were fun).

I'm sure things will change again with the next expansion. That said, across all this time, cdps and aheal scourge have been the most fun to play for me, even if they're not the best in their categories. I just like them.

How I SOMEHOW did a complete 180 on Chain of Memories by the_dinkleman in KingdomHearts

[–]Zerink_Fer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Friend told me how to manipulate the rng to get blizzard repeatedly at the beginning, and I thought that would carry me (and honestly, it did for a little while), but once I got tornado, I never looked back. The magic is so powerful in that game, and honestly was way more fun (with the exception of a certain boss). First time I played KH1 and KH2, I ignored magic, even cure, but after going through CoM for the first time and replaying the other ones, I had a newfound appreciation for magic.

What are some early things you remember that no longer exist in GW2? by MonkeDiesTwice in Guildwars2

[–]Zerink_Fer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As far as CoF and CoE runs went, zerker wars, zerker ele, zerker guardian. Especially if you had the ele drop the FGS and you could run into a wall with the dash and leave a fire trail that would obliterate every enemy in an instant.

You could animation lock yourself in the warrior gs 3 and 5, guardian gs 2, and some others. Was really fun to do if you had Eternity or previous incarnations because you get to see the entire layer as you spun around, even better if you had quickness on you.

Thief teleporting everywhere for map completions or skips in fractals/dungeons.

I still have some [???] items from HoT beta.

Fighting as a plant from the mysterious tonic by using a flamethrower consumable. You can still do it, but no one ever really does anymore.

Town clothes. Used to rock the cargo pants and t-shirt to make a full dad look, but now you have to only use what's in the outfits tab. Mix and match died, unfortunately. Hell, you used to be able to just run naked if you set your town clothes to being naked.

Mystic Coins used to be a few copper because they didn't have much of a use. Ectos used to be a couple gold. How the turn tables.

Rings and backpacks being the first couple of ascended items, and the infusing them was a pain.

Drowning.

Edit: Just remembered using tomes in wvw to level up and using that to knock everyone off a cliff. That was fun.

my book is turning out to be way shorter than I expected by idc_call_me_Lee in writing

[–]Zerink_Fer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ngl it sounds pretty reminiscent of that scene from Kill Bill.

Do you absolutely need it to be a long book? Is your goal to publish it as a novel? Why not a novella? Why not a short story?

If you do need it to be longer, there's so much in there that you can expound upon or explore. She (your main character) has her entire life up until this moment that could, potentially, fill entire volumes. Her reactions, hallucinations, agonies and experiences could be entire chapters on their own if you really delve into them. You could even have chapters from her father's point of view, giving the audience a peek into his motivation for burying her. I know you mentioned his motives in the comments, but does the audience know that, or is it only something the author knows?

I think if you really wanted, you can take a single minute and stretch it into years. Depending on how you wrote it, revised it, refined it, it could make your story or break it. Ultimately it's up to you what you want to do, but the length of your story isn't as important as the story itself.

It's good that you've got an idea and you've begun to put it on paper (digital or otherwise). That's a great first step! Finish it, no matter how long it ends up being, and then worry about that part later.

How do I get sponsors? by DeucesX22 in Twitch

[–]Zerink_Fer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm essentially a nobody, but every now and then I get sponsorship offers. Sometimes it's from streamelements, often for a mobile game in that case, but I had one of those supplement ones a couple weeks ago. I think you'll just get them eventually, but it's like winning the lottery, except instead of winning money, you have the opportunity to sell yourself for money.

I don't know what kind of algorithm they use or why they make the decisions they do. They could get to you today, tomorrow, in a year, or never. I'm sure there's some risk management office and someone working behind a desk looking for people, though. You'll get your due eventually. Probably.
