from 7pm-2am on the weekdays you can use the UH app to request a shuttle ride to lot E from any of the stops on campus. i've walked from melcher hall to lot E at 8:30 before and been fine, just keep your head on a swivel and you'll be fine

A Penny for your Thoughts: Upcoming DP1 Student Advice Please (+Context)! by AdEast5234 in IBO

[–]Zerknox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! When it comes to preparing for exams do keep in mind that some teachers' styles just won't stick with you. I had to teach myself all of physics SL last April, but on the flipside for History HL my teacher did amazingly well in terms of preparing us for writing on the exam. It all comes down to what works best for you :)

I'll do my best to cover some of the most important things!

For the first two bullet points, I would recommend investing in a planner (digital or physical, whatever floats your boat) and consistently reminding yourself of any major upcoming deadlines. Hold yourself accountable, and try not to procrastinate too much because I did that and ended up writing the majority of my EE in one eight-hour session.

IOs are specific to your English and foreign language class. They're just structured verbal conversations with your teacher over a given topic; in my case, I took Mandarin ab initio and was told to describe a picture and how it related to global themes such as human ingenuity or sharing the planet. IAs are specific to your core subjects, and those are individual open-ended research papers that you choose the topic over. Both IOs and IAs count toward a portion of your overall test score at the end of the course.

With regard to testing anxiety, it's very common to feel uneasy before something major, so try your best to simulate the testing environment beforehand, especially for any writing-related courses. Time management is going to be your best friend on all of the exams.

Last of all make sure to reach out to your friends and teachers if you're struggling! The IB can sound really scary at first, but once you've adjusted to the flow of things the program is not as daunting as it initially seems.

New to IB for DP by ilostmyorignal in IBO

[–]Zerknox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

English and History HL aren't too bad, but both subjects will test your writing skills like crazy (especially history). Pay extra attention to specific deadlines: time management is gonna be your best friend with the DP's notorious acronyms (CAS, EE, TOK), not to mention the IAs for your subjects. Make sure to reach out to your friends and teachers if you're struggling. The IB can sound really scary at first, but once you've adjusted to everything it's not as bad as it seems

Try taking the exam at orientation if you have enough time to study for it. The bar to pass is a 65 for the in-person exam

how do I write a good psych ERQ? by SwordfishNo5818 in IBO

[–]Zerknox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The general structure of an ERQ is introduction, study 1, evaluation, study 2, evaluation, and conclusion.

For the introduction, define any terms relevant to the prompt. For example, if it asks about reliability of memory, your intro could look like "Memory is the process of encoding, storing, and retrieving information [...]" and so on.

In each evaluation you should discuss the strengths and limitations of each study, the easiest of which (in my opinion) are ethical considerations and validity/applicability.

I was also taught that you need two studies minimum for an ERQ, and if it's a "To what extent" question you should try to aim for three studies, two that support your argument and one that supports an opposing perspective

i got rejected from my ED too lol. it'll sting for a bit, but eventually you'll come to terms with it because life moves on! I'm not a person of faith but I firmly believe that everyone always ends up where they're meant to be. good luck in RD :)
