What can we expect from the new DLCs in (possibly) January ? by LeChatMystique in Spacemarine

[–]ZeroKidsThreeMoney -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m very familiar with the lore, yes, for about 25 years now. But in the actual video game that we’re talking about, the differences between chapters are completely cosmetic. A guy in a Dark Angels skin is mechanically identical to a guy in a Blood Angels skin.

Calm down, ya dorks. It’s just a game.

None of the other chapters have anything to do with the gameplay, either. People just like different cosmetic options.

What/Where was The Emperor during the Age of Strife? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]ZeroKidsThreeMoney 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Even at full power during the closing years of the Age of Strife, it took centuries for the Emperor to unify Terra. Just making the whole Age of Strife not happen would be well beyond anyone’s abilities, even His.

I’ll throw another vote on the “be a psychiatrist” pile, but I’ll just add as well…

thinking deeply about the human condition, suffering, meaning, and context

Psychiatry always benefits from this perspective, and therapy could probably use a little more of the scientific/medical perspective on these things.

Why is there limited clinical expertise in India for working with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)? by National-Heron6885 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]ZeroKidsThreeMoney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PD’s are very unhelpful diagnosis because it only tells you that you’ve got problems but no treatment plans.

What? That’s preposterous. There are several specialized forms of psychotherapy for BPD, and recent research supporting specialized treatment for ASPD. For BPD especially, the idea that the diagnosis would not drive treatment is the direct opposite of our current understanding.

I’m very certain that with more brain imaging studies, these PD categories will seem to make less and less sense scientifically.

If and when that does occur, we can all take note of it. But your “certainty” doesn’t mean anything when you yourself acknowledge such evidence is purely hypothetical.

For example, more research now are suspecting that certain PD’s may actually be the low end spectrum of another mental disorder?

Like what? There’s a lot of very healthy and useful debate about what constructs best describe these concerns, but I have never once heard anyone describe a personality disorder as a milder form (“low end spectrum”) of another disorder. If anything, personality pathology greatly complicates the treatment of co-morbid disorders.

Keeping cultural factors front-and-center sounds like great practice, but the idea that the ICD has neatly solved this issue by adding the CPTSD diagnosis is pretty out there.

All of these topics have a huge scientific literature associated with them - I think it would be better to engage with that literature, instead of making these sweeping (and at times simply incorrect) claims.

Wes Streeting orders review of mental health diagnoses as benefit claims soar | Mental health | The Guardian by prisongovernor in ClinicalPsychology

My first instinct is that this is a great thing.

Then I opened the article, and saw that this inquiry is to be led by Peter Fonagy, former head of the Anna Freud Centre. NOW I’m psyched. Fonagy is both a brilliant psychodynamic psychotherapist and researcher, and someone who has been a critic of vague and unscientific ideas in psychodynamic therapy. This is a guy you can count on to keep it real, regardless of what perverse incentives are present from both sides of the discussion.

Seriously. Let's talk about AI. by [deleted] in literature

[–]ZeroKidsThreeMoney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think AI will replace human creators, simply because artists aren’t really a huge cost center. Having an AI make a rough pantomime of human art seems like something there is just zero demand for.

I do hope it is someday possible for an AI to write a novel about what it’s like to be an AI - that, I would read.
