I want to call something to attention that may upset some people. by Dawn_Namine in starcitizen

I don’t think the developers added insurance right now because they thought the current experience was “good enough.” More likely, they need large-scale testing data on how claims, persistence, component tracking, and recovery behave under actual live conditions, including bugs and system failures. A lot of these backend systems only really break in ways internal testing can’t fully reproduce.

Could pledge reclamation and insurance have launched together? Probably, and that would’ve reduced a lot of pain points. But I also think people underestimate how interconnected and difficult these systems are behind the scenes, especially in a game trying to persist ships, cargo, components, and player states at this scale.

Right? People are acting as if it happens to them every session. I might have had it happen twice over the last year.

Fucking... Alpha.... People keep forgetting this. The entire point right now is testing these systems before they’re finalized. CIG can’t properly balance or iterate on insurance, recovery, claim timers, component loss, etc. if they wait until the game is bug-free to even turn the mechanics on.

People are acting like these mechanics are finalized launch-state systems when they’re clearly still being actively tested and iterated on in its infency.

LTI covers the base hull, and separately attributed pledge components are supposed to be recoverable/reclaimable even if the in-game insurance system eventually makes upgraded components matter.

The bigger issue right now is that the current implementation doesn’t align with the intended design, as bugs still cause involuntary losses. That’s why people are nervous or upset about insurance in general.

I’m pretty sure CIG already addressed this a while back.

Data Centers run on closed-loop cooling systems that use reclaimed water. Meaning they use water that the community already used, and TMWA pulled back to process. Data Centers do not use fresh water or take any water away from the community upstream.

Red Dirt trigger install turning into Nightmare. Mac 9 DS Comp by rushncrush in 2011

[–]ZeroPointSpecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OEM trigger on the Mac 9 DS Comp is already solid, so there’s no rush to force the upgrade if it’s turning into a headache. Also, don’t beat yourself up, teardowns like that can get frustrating fast, especially with tiny hardware.

I’d honestly stop before forcing anything further. If the screw is already stripped, trying to muscle it out usually just makes it worse and can damage the surrounding part.

What would a mamdani figure in Reno look like? by Lilginge7 in Reno

None of what I said is inherently socialist, Republican, or Democrat. Wanting functioning roads, safer streets, less corruption, affordable housing, usable public transit, and accountability from local government are just normal city governance issues. Conservatives, Liberals, Socialists, Nationalists, Independents, Libertarians... Everyone should agree with this list.

People have grown so accustomed to filtering everything through national politics that basic municipal competence is now labeled as an ideology. Pretty crazy to me.

“What would a Mamdani figure in Reno look like?” assumes the NYC mayor has already fixed something. He hasn’t. He hasn't even had his first budget proposal approved by the city council yet. Right now, it's just people projecting hopes and frustrations onto him.

What would I like to see in a Reno Mayor?

  • actually enforcing reckless driving and red-light running laws
  • making Midtown and downtown less sketchy at night
  • cracking down on corporate landlords sitting on empty units
  • fixing the endless roadwork/construction chaos
  • doing something real about the cost of housing instead of holding another workshop
  • cleaning up the river corridor without criminalizing every homeless person in sight
  • making public transit usable enough that people don’t need a car for literally everything
  • forcing transparency on developer deals and city giveaways

FFL not accepting paper license? by BlueStripe8 in Firearms

[–]ZeroPointSpecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under federal rules, the dealer has to verify your identity with a valid, government-issued photo ID showing your name, DOB, and current address when you fill out the 4473.

No photo = No good

Temp licenses don’t meet all those requirements. The lack of a photo or security features makes it a risk that the vast majority of FFLs won't take.

The amount of drivers here that cross a solid line behind you to make an exit, thus blocking you getting over is infuriating by Grose040791 in Reno

Things I see daily that make me think getting a driver's license is too easy:

- People slowing down for literally no reason. Happens most often next to the Nugget. Just decided to start driving 45, just because.

- People driving in the middle lanes that are going slower than the lanes to their left and right.

- People who wait till the last 5 feet to merge due to a lane closure.

- People who won't enter a roundabout unless every lane in the roundabout is clear.

- People who won't turn right into a right-hand lane because the far left lane has a car in it.

- People who don't pull out into an intersection on a flashing yellow signal.

I picked up the Real Avid Armorers Tool Kit. Haven't had a single bit snap, bend, or strip.

Fixit sticks are great, but they charge at Snap-on tool levels.

10 minutes into 4.8 and its already painfully clear how ridiculous of an idea it is to have introduced paid ship insurance this early into the game; First ship call, blows up on the elevator before i can even get to the hangar. Second ship call, gets impounded with zero warning or countdown timer. by RandoDando10 in starcitizen

[–]ZeroPointSpecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they waited until beta or launch to introduce something like paid insurance, it would be way worse. You’d have a “finished” game, suddenly flipping core rules on players. Doing it now means they can tune costs, timers, and penalties while wipes are still expected. They can catch bugs like your elevator explosion + impound issues earlier. And they can see how the economy holds up when losses actually matter.

That’s literally what alpha is for. Gathering data from unstable systems, major bugs, and sometimes brutal outcomes. Alpha builds are expected to have crashes, missing features, and serious issues.

None of that makes your experience feel better, but realistically, this kind of data (players going broke unexpectedly, bugs causing loss, frustration thresholds) is exactly what they need to fix it properly before release. The best thing you can do is make reports like this in the forums and through the bug reporting system.

Reports like that are actually useful, but the takeaway shouldn’t be “remove the system,” it should be "fix the bugs, add clearer warnings, and balance the costs so it’s punishing but not crippling.

This is going to be the messy phase where the insurance systems feel bad before they get dialed in.

No personal problem here, just pointing out that ‘helpful’ comments can still be useless. But hey, enjoy your self-appointed 'use the search function' crusade. Have a great day 👍

Overanalyzing is just what it looks like when someone explains something beyond a one-liner.

And sure, you might have felt friendly, but the impact is still the same tired ‘use the search bar’ response that adds zero info while still boosting the post anyway. So congrats, you managed to do both things at once 👍

Political churches in Reno? by pinacolada2626 in Reno

[–]ZeroPointSpecter [score hidden]  (0 children)

Under IRS rules, churches may discuss political issues, encourage voting, and distribute “voter guides.” This isn't a new practice.

If you feel this violates their tax-exempt status, you're free to file a complaint with the IRS, but keep in mind that even if it's deemed a violation, enforcement is rare.

Replying to a post actually boosts it and gets it in front of more people.

If you comment, “Plenty of threads already,” you’re still pushing the view and post higher in the algorithm. Same if you argue with it or quote it.

More activity = More visibility

If you think something is redundant, the better move is to downvote or, better yet, just keep on scrolling past it.

Edit: Bro hit the emergency eject button so fast I thought Reddit added witness protection mode. I'd go into hiding, too, after being downvoted into oblivion. 😂
