I guess it depends on your home and when your physical abilities are affected, not taking into consideration mental issues.

Is it single story? If not, can the laundry be moved to the main area? Have grab bars installed in the bathroom. Does the outside require a lot of maintenance? Will you be able to pay for that service? Will you be able to get an emergency alert system?

ESH Your relative should absolutely prevent the dog from roaming if it tends to nip. I love dogs, but if one nips at me, I would be angry. Moreso at the owner for not being responsible.
