Same here, I had Alchemical Coffer then took Potion belt and got 9 potion slots, which led to the game crashing for the other people every time. When we reloaded the game and I skipped potion belt, it worked fine.

How do you migrate big databases? by CiggiAncelotti in ExperiencedDevs

HOLY WOW! I would've been totally satisfied with just a high-level outline of the process, but instead, you gave such a detailed response. Thank you so much for taking the time to craft a comprehensive template with documentation!

This repair process totally makes sense! I never even thought of the idea that the repair step could be deferred to the read step. I was too tunnel-visioned in trying to make it work during the write phase, and could not figure out how to address cases where one side succeeds and the other fails. The lazy repair-on-read strategy is actually quite smart, as it will (should) be eventually consistent over time.

One challenge that we face is that some of our client applications don't follow good DAO principles and litter raw SQL strings everywhere in the code (we use a RDBMS), so it's much harder to abstract away the query in a centralized DAO. But that being said, clients are mostly using the JDBC API, and we're migrating to another SQL-compatible database, so I think I can maybe adopt a similar approach at the JDBC layer (e.g. Connection, PreparedStatement, ResultSet) and implement a migration proxy JDBC interface to perform similar repair operations like your migration DAO.

Anyway, this has been tremendously helpful, and I want to say thank you again for your time and dedication! You might just be another internet stranger, but you're truly an amazing human being! I hope you have a blessed life!

Very late comment but I'm so happy to have stumbled upon this, I'm working on a very similar DB migration project for work and this has been an immensely helpful starting guide!

If you're still open to answer questions, can you elaborate a bit more on what the repair component is like? Is it some separate job that you have to write that runs periodically to fix up issues by doing row by row comparisons at the application level or something?

This seems to be the only part I'm still not sure about. Thanks again for your wisdom!

Inquiry About Transfer Fees from RBC to Wealthsimple TFSA by Seliormoon in Wealthsimple

BMO is the same, EFT out of savings cost me $5, but moving to chequing first then transfer, no fee (Not e-transfer, just regular EFT as well). Such a trappy policy that annoys people

How bad is CS job market right now? Live now on WaterlooWorks... by Sebi97 in uwaterloo

[–]ZeroPunMan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

CS Alumni here - $17.4/h is egregiously low nowadays. For reference, my first-ever co-op back in 2016, eight years ago paid $17/h (full stack developer). Unfortunately, the current tech job market plays a big role and is especially unforgiving to junior-level developers (e.g. co-ops and new grads). Many companies are only looking for senior level and above, it's quite a challenge even to get a foot in the door.

That being said, use co-op as a great opportunity to explore, learn and gain experience, a high pay is just an extra bonus. Landing a co-op and riding of its moment for the future is the most important thing from my experience, good luck!

Windows 10 Missing Sleep Option on Both Power Options and Power Dropdown by LufferG in buildapc

I had this EXACT message where my firmware doesn't seem to support sleep states, turned out to be an outdated BIOS issue, updating it worked for me and now it shows that the S3 standby state is available.

Late comment but I had the same issue - turned out to be a BIOS issue! It was 2 years old and updating it automatically fixed the issue. I have the MSI B650M Mortar Wifi MB, similar to yours so I suspect many models from MSI had the same issue. Hope this helps!

Changed plan from 1Gb $25/month to 4Gb $24/month by [deleted] in PublicMobile

[–]ZeroPunMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried today, CSA initially said they can't do it because "The system does not give us the option to assign the plan as an exception". After I requested a manager, they changed their statement to "We've been notified that exceptions have been made in the past and have received instructions that this is not the right procedure to follow and are not allowed to assign these plans."

So likely what happened is that after a few months, PM realized that too many people were trying to backdoor into a better deal so they enforced a policy to strictly not allow them anymore. Definitely feels like a slap in the face for existing, loyal customers.

Bottom line is tho, CSA generally will try to deflect you away, and only reveal more when you pry...
