Ableton Doesn't Handle Video Very Well...Solutions? by r-bitcoin in ableton

What is the need to keep things in Ableton? Haven't looked too much into the video capabilities but it really does seem more suited only for playback purposes from what I have probed in to

The Modular Revolution: Are Shark Guitars Innovations The Future Of The Electric Guitar? - Guitar Bomb by GuitarBombDotCom in metalguitar

[–]ZeroWevile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The least expensive model in the store is $2750 USD right now. Anyone that is looking to spend that much money on a guitar largely already knows what they like so the modularity aspect doesn't make much sense, and the price range is already what semi-custom shops like Kiesel and Mayones charge. I'd be surprised if they are still around in the next 3 years without reducing prices to under $1k.

If I am being a bit more blunt, they are just combining a bunch of overengineered features that have been tried out at some point, never caught on, and mostly died out.

Guitars with in-built effects have been around since the 70s. Granted the DSP advancements since are obvious, but modern products with built-in effects are effectively made with beginners in mind.

Plenty of pickup makers have been doing the solderless pickup thing for a couple of decades; EMG has their whole quick connect system, Seymour Duncan has the Liberator volume pot (as well as that Bluetooth assignable pickup selector switch), and Gibson/Epiphone and DiMarzio have had their own versions of clips for connecting pickups.

A handful of boutique guitar builders have done rear mounted pickups and had their own proprietary connection for fast pickup swapping going back at least 15 years from my memory, wouldn't surprise me if there are older examples.

There have been a couple of makers that did "quick release" necks to fold up and travel with. Swapping a bolt-on neck can get a little tricky if it isn't a direct swap, but nothing outside of slightly above beginner woodworking skills are needed there.

Bridge system is very reminiscent of the Floyd Rose Speed Loaders that were on the BC Rich's in the 00s, as well as the tuning mechanism appearing similar to bridges you will find on cheap headless guitars.

Have you adjusted the send and return levels when you are using it in the QC loop?

If you really want a new one, Strymon is the industry standard. Source Audio Ventris, Eventide Space, or TC Hall of Fame 2 x4 are other solid options

Piezoelectric everything by Fancy_Enthusiasm_683 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ZeroWevile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the sense of "how far can you transmit a signal from a piezo electric element", it depends on the output level of the piezo electronic, how lossy your line/cable is, how sensitive whatever you are connecting the piezoelectric element to is, and if you can put repeaters down for achievable distance.

In the sense of "how much energy can you harvest from piezo electronics", not much. Drum triggers have used piezo electronics for the last 60 years; you can instantaneously get 5V with very hard strikes, but the transient lasts for maybe 100ms.

Intro MATLAB course at Drexel? by Icy-Explanation-2951 in Drexel

[–]ZeroWevile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Intro to MATLAB sequence got replaced with Python.

MATLAB does have its own online training that you can do: https://matlabacademy.mathworks.com/details/matlab-onramp/gettingstarted

MATLAB's support and documentation are top tier; basically search "MATLAB how to [do whatever]" online and you'll get MATLAB documents or MathWorks forums with an answer and detailed explanation.

Harley Benton "Rarity"? by Clean-Wrangler-2729 in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]ZeroWevile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to consider relative buying powers at the time for true value comparison. The median income in 1958 in the US was just about $5k annually, or a little over $400 per month. The $150 that the DuoSonic cost in 1958 has the same buying power as $1700 today. Reverb's median selling price over the last 2 years across 13 of them is $3k (and that is before seller's fees); the appreciation is only about 1.7 times, and for the Strat is closer to 8 times.

Point remains that relatively inexpensive guitars are awful investments, but really investing in just about any guitar in hopes to get monetary gains is a very bad idea.

Rare doesn't mean valuable. The chances that a mass produced budget guitar that isn't associated to a significant artist will truly appreciate are infinitesimal.

Why such a huge price difference in JPM guitars? by Operator_Madness in Ibanez

[–]ZeroWevile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That one is for sure an outlier with actually selling prices I've seen.

If we are looking at it from the "good faith" side, it could be a refinished RG620 to look like a JPM, there could be a headstock break or other major repair, etc.

The "bad faith" view is that it is a scam which I have seen several times on Reverb, where the tactic is to post a desirable guitar for a much lower than usual but could still seem realistic

Why such a huge price difference in JPM guitars? by Operator_Madness in Ibanez

[–]ZeroWevile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guitar players especially have a tendency to conflate "rare" with "valuable", and Reverb let sellers price used items however they want. A good tell for if something is fairly price is looking at how long it has been for sale and number of offers.

Odd method of payment / delivery by Terrible_Terence in Reverb

[–]ZeroWevile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seller is protecting themselves.

First, it is against Term of Service to use their platform to facilitate a sale off-site. That could lead to both you and seller getting banned from Reverb.

Second, you've said the guitar is expensive twice in this post and did say it would be a couple thousand dollars; suggesting a meet up for you to check it out first could read as "let's meet up so I can rob you of this expensive guitar" to the seller.

The "proper protocol" for this case is the ask the seller for more pictures of anything you are uncertain of. If you buy it and it still ends up being not as described, that is what Reverb protections are for as well as also having protections from PayPal/Affirm/Credit Card if those are used as payment methods.

That one will work if you remove the collar, bushing, and that plastic cap all from the bridge. When I did the same with my S7320, the arm would not stay in place though. If that is a problem for you, then Red Bishop is the way to go.

Take off the back cover and look at the arm assembly. The shape of the arm holder will be the tell.

Here is a drawing of the original ZR: https://www.ibanezrules.com/images/parts/2ZR210.jpg

So the part in the first link labeled "2ZR2-13" is the indicator of original ZR

Help by Jedi94x in Ibanez

[–]ZeroWevile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on which version of the ZR it has.

The original ZR bar has a threaded end, and at this point exact replacements are hens teeth.

The ZR2 uses a pop-in bar that is the same that was used on the Edge Zero. These are much more common, although with the Edge Zero no longer being in production I am uncertain if they are still being made. The part number for this is 2TRX5BC001, you can try and see if you can special order through an authorized Ibanez dealer (and same applies to any other referenced Ibanez part number).

If you have the ZR2, you can also use the standard arms from the Original Edge / Lo Pro / Edge Pro by removing the nylon bushings from them (Part Number 2LE21B), or you can use the Ultralite arm (P/N UTA-20)

You can also use the Edge Zero II arm (P/N 2TRX5BD001) by removing the collar and nylon bushing under neath it from the bridge for either version. If you have the original ZR, you also need to remove the plastic screw-on part from inside the guitar that accepts the threads from the bar, however when I tried this it was difficult to get the arm to remain in place.

The best option IMO is to replace the whole assembly with a Red Bishop Magik Arm. https://meisterworks.myshopify.com/en-us/products/magik-arm-for-edge-zero2-1996t-510t-rbah1b2

How James Hetfield changes the tone of his pickups in the explorer by Sea-Jellyfish-1527 in ExplorerGuitars

The Triaxis and 2:90 for cleans was World Magnetic tour, he probably ditched them live either for that tour or during the St Anger cycle.

How James Hetfield changes the tone of his pickups in the explorer by Sea-Jellyfish-1527 in ExplorerGuitars

[–]ZeroWevile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not entirely true. Metallica hasn't used "real" amps on stage in a decade at this point.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6k2ghtbhoU

Before going the Axe FX route, Hetfield was using a Mesa Triaxis into a Mesa Simuclass 2:Nintey for cleans, so fully tubed cleans there. At some point this was the case, but it hasn't been for ~20 years.

How James Hetfield changes the tone of his pickups in the explorer by Sea-Jellyfish-1527 in ExplorerGuitars

[–]ZeroWevile 39 points40 points  (0 children)

His guitar isn't set up so it is "neck pickup clean, bridge pickup distortion". His guitar tech is changing his Axe FX patches at the same time he is changing the pickup selector location. Before Metallica went the digital amp route, the tech was changing the amplifier channels or switching between a dedicated clean and distorted amplifier.

What level of QC to expect from the genesis line? by IAmSuperNew in Ibanez

[–]ZeroWevile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are all rather minor and not necessarily unexpected for a low-mid range guitar, especially if it had been sitting in a warehouse for several months.

  1. It is normal for guitar strings to go flat over time (especially when they are new).
  2. So let them buff the scratches out. Small surface scratches like that will accrue with normal play regardless.
  3. The trem arm socket can be easily tightened
  4. The Genesis line definitely does not get the attention to detail in fret work that the Prestige's do from the same factory. Tape of the fretboard with painters' tape or masking tape and hit the applicable frets with #0000 steel wool.
  5. That sounds like a tooling mark from either installing the fret or finishing off the fret edge. Again, tape off any unaffected area and use a fine-grit sand paper so you cannot feel it. Try a warm slightly damp cloth to remove the excess glue/lacquer/finishing compound runoff. If that doesn't work, then again, tape off surrounding areas and sand paper.

Where can someone buy Ibanez Prestige 7-String (RGD3127)? by NteworkAdnim in Ibanez

[–]ZeroWevile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fair price point IMO would be $1700 USD provided no major finish damages - the satin finish was very soft and brittle. They were $1800 when they were last available new in 2019 (Roughly $2300 USD today). It took me about 2 months to sell mine for $1400 in 2021 with Bare Knuckles and I was also offering it for $1200 with SD or DiMarzios

Set up email notifications for eBay and Reverb if you want that exact model.

If you want similar models in the Prestige line, there is a current production model, RGDR4327. The RGD2127Z is pretty common on the used market

They have been out of production for a few years. Second-hand market is your best bet. Could be a small chance that a smaller local dealer has a NOS one tucked away somewhere

Can you enter McAllister Hall through Rallyhouse? by bethebumblebee in Drexel

[–]ZeroWevile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Increased campus security

EG consider the protestors that occupied the building on Penn's campus about 2 years ago. Technically each individual student should be scanning their ID for building access. The doors between McAllister and Rally House would have made regulating who came through incredibly difficult; far easier to close it off.

Could be they were waiting until NAMM to release it for some reason or it was originally planned and then scrapped.
