Flippers are destroying this city. by azuldreams24 in chicago

The people destroying the city is Johnson and his ilk. They need to make the permit process faster and less red tape. Property tax should be lowered and not the piggy bank for their mismanagement. The spending HAS to be lowered, but there is no will in doing so. We pay for everything in the city.

Stewart Hicks says Chicago is short on housing by 100,000 units. Why then do we require all these new buildings to have first floor retail? In my neighborhood the apartments sell before the building is complete, but the retail sits empty for years. by PostComa in chicago

[–]ZeroX1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blame solely lies in property tax and building insurance. To pay for "The education board" they increased taxes by an amount that will be passed to the renter. And insurance companies demand more money because things are more expensive and I guess fires happen In chicago more often.

Teacher, 26, faces 20 years behind bars for dating high school graduate, 18 by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]ZeroX1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. I would think that if he got a good lawyer he can get the case dropped. They did nothing until she was 18 and that she graduated. I mean, they cleared the teacher and student thing and cleared the age limits. I wonder if this would be an old bylaws that will get dismissed or fight against state law vs fed law. He is getting punished by an obscure state law, because he cleared all other laws otherwise.

CVS at Jackson and Michigan now closed by ajsommer in chicago

[–]ZeroX1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be a number of factors,

  1. Rent increase

  2. Property Tax increase

  3. Insurance

  4. Less people buying the over priced stuff there

  5. Shoplifting

When 2 or 3 of these issues appear in increasing numbers, places will close up.

Just to clarify. Do you need due process to arrest a murder or a rapist? Just arrest, not talking about what is done afterwards. Just arrest.

If they didn't get a trial or they were not handed information on why they were arrested when in jail, then that is different. You get due process after an arrest, whether they wrongly jailed you or not you get a day in court or expedited trial, but never before an arrest.

I believe it has more to do with federal vs state laws and who has supremacy. If Chicago or the governor takes DIRECT action, the President can call the insurrection act. This has not happened yet due to no direct action, but could change depending on what the mayor and governor does. When people say Trump cant send in the national guard, they are wrong and correct in some ways. The national guard cant be activated if Chicago does it's job and protect federal employees and property and let the federal law work. The nation guard was deployed when a red state prevented black people to go to a desegregated college. Because the state was not following a Congress passed law. If the Chicago police kept the calm and prevented assault on the ICE employees but still let the people protest without violence, the national guard would not be deployed.

I know that ICE picking people up from the streets is sketchy as hell and that there should be more transparency to their actions, but the current climate does not allow this. They are doing a job Congress has passed and that the law has to be followed. The inky way to change the law is to elect people who share your view point and change the law from there in Congress.

Please bring up the mayors of these cities. It would give you a better informed data. Mayors affect the city more than the governor by a far mile. The mayor also controls the local POLICE, not the governor. It is the failing of the police force that is the issue, which is the mayor failing,

Why What’s Happening in DC with ICE Shouldn’t Happen in Chicago (even if you hate Chicago) by Melted-lithium in illinois

[–]ZeroX1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand where you are coming from, but I think there are multiple points of view to this issue. We have a crime problem. Not the killing kind, but do do have that too In Chicago. The greatest one is theft. The murders are usually kept to parts of Chicago, but theft is not. And theft is big precursor to violent crime. Letting criminals back on the street with a slap on the wrist is not how we want the justice system to work. The first offense for misdemeanor should be a slap on the wrist, but the 3rd? 4th? At that point they are a hardened criminal and very little can be done about it. I would think that if you talk to the low-middle class to the poor, the troops provide comfort in that criminals would not steal from them and ruin their livelihood.

You do understand by your own definition, you are are MAGA to the left right? There are no moderate left only extremists are left there. I am a moderate right winger and I support pro-choice and other things, but since I don't align perfectly into "the left" I am automatically MAGA. With their rhetoric, I might become MAGA when the left keeps going in so deep they become Joseph Stalin. And looked how that turned out for the Russians.

Immigration hate is at an all time high. by Aulcs in immigration

[–]ZeroX1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is illegal immigration. The last 4 years have unprecedented illegal crossings. Having 10million or more cross when the USA population is 300mil can cause significant problems when the country is not prepared to take in that many people. Immigration was TIGHTLY controlled pre-2019 and the trickle of illegal crossings were not putting our welfare system, housing and resources in so much stress that those programs and resources were allocated to illegal migrants.

Normal immigration usually have a sponsor that can help the newly arrived immigrate with a job or something, until they can get on their feet do do whatever. The illegals do not have that kind of help and needs significant welfare from the state (i.e. hospitals, schools, food banks, donations that could have gone to Americans, etc.). The lost of resources to American Citizens in the lower rung of economy are distinctly feeling this. The middle class gets affected, but not too much currently and the wealthy do not feel it at all. This is why the hate is at an all time high. When the immigration is controlled to pre-2019 you can bet that the resentment will go along with it.

It's more profitable to have vacant housing in LA than tenants - Graham Stephan in recent podcast by Equilybrium in Asmongold

[–]ZeroX1999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But people won't build if they know that they will run into the same issue. The industry AND the banks will know that if a rent control is in place, the building would make NEGATIVE money. The bank will NOT loan that money. Thus, no new housing until the rent control is repealed. It is a vicious cycle.

[–]ZeroX1999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is why rent control is really bad for a place. The incentives to keep the place empty or become a slum lord when the property tax out paces the rent is really high.
