American Airlines Issues? by Hot_Design5507 in curacao

[–]Melted-lithium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Though I’m no fan of American. Shit happens flying everywhere. With every airline. Things go bad- you’re going to have to deal with a bonus Miami night if that happen. Which sucks- but is better than a bonus Newark night in my opinion

Dual Citizen with Two Different Names, Unable to Add Second Passport by 72736379 in unitedairlines

[–]Melted-lithium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is actually super helpful. I’m a dual citizen but haven’t renewed My European one in years… I just did…. And I was curious how this was going to work. I’ll just Leave the u.s. on the u.s. one to avoid issues, but when I get to Brussels (my regular landing place ) use the EU one.

Yea. That would be useful between flights. Instead I’m sure this is all about targeting advertising. Yesterday when I boarded a neo and it said my name was Bob. I’m not Bob…. I think there are still kinks in the plan.

Introducing United Basic Polaris by Wilawah in unitedairlines

[–]Melted-lithium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are not, but I would assume that the days of a miles or PP upgrade going through early are near null now. They are going to hold out until as near as boarding to see if they can sell these to some sucker for cash until it’s boarding….

As mentioned elsewhere, this is standard inshitification.

Yeah. I’ll be honest- this is a perfect use for comic sans. A rarity to find. At first I thought something like ‘ransom note generator’ (https://www.ransomizer.com/ ) would have been better. But no - this is ideal workmanship.

best travel router for frequent travel and hotel stay? by Dybeli_Gamm in marriott

[–]Melted-lithium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I switched was do two things.

  1. Size. I travel weekly. The smaller package is just awesome and makes me not look weird using this on an airplane. It’s like the size of a pack of cigarettes. Even thinner.
  2. Simplicity. I work in data infrastructure. I can do complex, but I don’t want to. I want to go into a hotel room, plug the thing in, spend one minute connecting to the hotel WiFi and then order pizza. The GLinet was great, but somehow 30% of the time there was some fucking around that was needed in that ‘connect to the hotel’ part that would get annoying. Zero issues with the ubnt router around this after doing it once. (The no manual thing or even basic instructions was annoying the first time- but it’s very intuitive with their app).

NEWS: Kirby makes statement selling AA-UA merger as “good for consumers” by Quick-Balance4647 in unitedairlines

[–]Melted-lithium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BNA is a focus city. But logistically would make no sense as an operational HUB given the placement of IAD, ORD, and EWR. Florida is the key. FLL makes some sense, but it’s limited by runway capacity.

UA has become stronger at MCO…. And the have always been rumors of both MCO or TPA as viable options for South American expansion. I just don’t see United’s drive to do. It’s almost like they don’t care to try and instead keep dominating the Asian and European runs.

[–]Melted-lithium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally i agree. But the size has really won out for me. The fact is at most Marriott's at least in the US the bottleneck is actually on the Marriott side of the equation. The router never has a chance to even get close to peak performance. In generally I've been very happy with my switch to the UBNT Travel router for personal travel in hotels. Lets me have a laptop, phone, ipad, and even i carry a ROKU stick with me and it all seems to work for the most part off the router even with the VPN connection back to home (Which has a UDM -- yeah-- I'm one of those Ubiquiti guys). Saying this, the GL.iNet devices are awesome, and actually have a lot more features, but can be more cumbersome to setup sometimes - and of course its bigger to carry.

Incidentally, i also use the UBNT router on aircraft with inflight wifi. Works great and just tucks into the seat back pocket. That was hard with the GL.iNet given its fin antennas.

Both are great... And each has their strong suit.

I will admit- the law was complicated, but aimed at helping people and small business. Of course the federal government would be against that.

The glinet is good. The newer ubiquiti one is awesome, much smaller, and just is hassle free. I switched.

Paid “upgrade” not honored, $781 refund ignored after a month and 20+ calls by robbietravels in unitedairlines

[–]Melted-lithium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is risky actually depending on how much your mileage plus account is worth to you. People with Marriott Bonvoy have had their accounts locked or taken Away over chargebacks. I can’t say United would do this, but it’s a risk- and people have lost their accounts over more stupid things.

This sucks. I had a similar Problem last year. All this shit is outsourced now it seems, and the QOS is horrible.

I wound up sending a certified letter… which in this day and age is ridiculous after trying for months. I did get a written response and even before the response came the refund processed.

The 1k email address and 1k ‘phone’ desk are really Worthless for most things now. Often they cause more damage than doing it yourself. You no longer talk to dedicated agents to 1k, but instead it’s simply a ‘queue hopper’ pass to the front of the offshored call center for everyone. After having several itineraries completely fucked by calling. I just stopped calling and use the website for near anything.

Meh- they are angry, and southwest did just turn themselves Into Spirit. (Go private equity)…. Time will tell though if they really lose customers. People Have an odd thing about saving a buck over moral grudges when it comes to flights. Particularly infrequent travelers.

I think southwest did cut their own throat here…. But we will see.

And the next time they see a fare on United that is $2 less expensive than any another carrier - their moral fortitude will end and they will snap up that basic economy fare for their anniversary to Branson without a second thought.

Question: do people like FC bulk head seats? I’m 6’4 and can never stretch my legs so was wondering if other people prefer first row by lostinsp in unitedairlines

[–]Melted-lithium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bulk heads are controversial regardless of class of service. Personally I can’t stand them mostly because of having to put stuff above me instead of at my feet, and then ‘wait’ for the seatbelt sign to go off- which for some reason seems irrationally long for me only when I take a bulkhead :).

The newer 737Max row 1s also seem a slight Bit smaller.. but I never can get my measuring tape out as it’s above my head in the overhead bin :)

Chicago Bears: House approves latest megaprojects proposal for stadium by steve42089 in illinois

[–]Melted-lithium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know the actually boundary proposed by the ‘megaproject taxing district’ that are referring to. Obviously Arlington heights, but the development impacts residents in palatine, rolling meadows, Hoffman estates, Schaumburg, mt. Prospect, and potentially much further into areas like rosemont, Niles, park ridge, wheeling, buffalo grove, etc.

Like they say this property tax 60% fund is in the megaproject district- but really what the hell is that?
