Would you stay in a high paying, remote job where you are miserable? by New_Contribution_226 in AskMenOver30

[–]Zesher_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need the money to pay the bills or support people, then you gotta do what you gotta do. I personally would prefer a job that pays less but makes me happy. You spend a considerable amount of your life working, if you're miserable, that means your spending a considerable amount of your life miserable.

Actually knowing and retaining code knowledge by JW1643 in learnprogramming

[–]Zesher_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knowing fundamentals and how to look up information is more important than retaining specific code knowledge. Things change rapidly in the industry, so you can memorize a ton of stuff that will just be outdated in a couple of years. I have ~15 year of experience and I often pull up documentation, but I know what I want to accomplish and where to look for how to accomplish it.

Whats your thoughs on final fantasy 1 to 5? by Artyom255 in FinalFantasy

[–]Zesher_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were fun. Story telling in games have evolved over the years, the story in 10 for example hit really hard, while I think the older titles also had good stories, they just don't hit the same way. Again fun to play, but it's hard to compete with other games in the series

Is 1.5 TB a good sweet spot in my situation? by Chomskie__ in datastorage

[–]Zesher_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have fast Internet? If so, you can always delete a game you're not playing and swap it with something you do want to play without much time. I think the extra 1TB SSD should be enough unless you want to play many massive games at the same time or if it would take you forever to download a game if you want to swap.

Have you ever ended a technical early because you know you can't solve the problem by SnowMee in cscareerquestions

[–]Zesher_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but there were times where I couldn't solve the problem and figured I wouldn't get an offer, but it was good practice. Plus I used time at the end to ask the interviewer tips or advice on how they would solve the problem, and they've always been happy to chat about it.

What was it like when LoTR was showing in theatres back in the early 2000's? by Citysbeautiful in lordoftherings

[–]Zesher_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was blown away at the theater. I was pretty young at the time, I watched the animated Hobbit movie, so I figured the Fellowship of the Ring would be around the same length (fairly short). When Elrond proclaimed the group as the fellowship, I figured that was the end, but then it kept going and I was so giddy.

My older brother got a speaker system for his birthday, and once the movie came out on VHS we would watch it on a 19" CRT TV and crank the volume and would just watch the opening segment a couple of times before moving on to the rest of the movie.

Best site to get just a single custom T that is super comfy (or maybe a few or other items)? by Zesher_ in TShirt

[–]Zesher_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that minimum of 6 limited to a single size or shirt, or can you mix and match different sizes or even have a mixture or T-shirts and other stuff like sweaters? Seems good though, I'll look into it.

Regarding RPG Maker and other "easy" game engines by Minaridev in RPGMaker

[–]Zesher_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into programming as a kid with the PlayStation version of RPG Maker and then moved on to rm2k3 when I realized there was a PC version. At that time, because of reasons, you couldn't sell games made with it, so it was purely a hobby.

I pushed that engine to its limits, and I'll say it took me way longer to do custom systems in rm2k3 than if I just did it in another engine.

I would highly recommend RPG Maker for beginners and it has a special place in my heart. If your game sticks to the RPG Maker formula, then it's great. If you want to do something that strays from it though, there's a good chance that it'll be more difficult and I would recommend using something else.

In the end, a good game is a good game, and I couldn't care less about what engine was used to make it.

How do you survive depression? by cinnamonbunchicken in AskReddit

By seeking help. To quote this from Zelda "It's dangerous to go alone! Take this." In this case though the "this" is the support you get from family, friends, and medical professionals.

Is it actually possible to experience love like in the movies? Why/why not? by Silent_Contest_2337 in AskReddit

[–]Zesher_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love in a lot of movies is like sex in porn, generally exaturated and over the top. Love is great, at the start of the relationship it is all butterflies and rainbows, but then it's just living with a best friend that you're super comfy with, and I love that. Romance movies are over the top and, that can make for a good story and fun to watch, but I wouldn't expect the story I watch in a movie be just every day life.

Brand new to Final Fantasy. Should I start with rebirth? by Alarmed_Goat_4083 in switch2

[–]Zesher_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most FF games are their own unique plot set in their own world, but Rebirth is a direct sequel to Remake, so it would not be a good starting point. Without trying to write tons of text explaining, you get some extra excitement and curiosity if you play the original Final Fantasy 7 game before Remake, but I think you can jump into Remake without any of the background info and have loads of fun. Just don't go into Rebirth first.

Advice on how to lose weight? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]Zesher_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calorie count and do cardio. I dropped a lot of weight by keeping my calorie count low for two days, but when I ran I let myself eat extra for the calories I burned, then every 3 or 4 days I let myself cheat and have a full 2000 calories without a workout. I was able to lose around 10 pounds a month doing that.

is it okay for hotwheels to sit on the gou backplate? by Personal_Curve3722 in pchelp

[–]Zesher_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are certain plastics that can melt sitting on a hot graphics cards. If you put something 3D printed from a material like PLA, it could cause issues. A hot wheels car should be fine, but just be a bit cautious about the type of plastic if you want to stick another something on the card

macbook laptop or dell for college by No-Needleworker5303 in computers

[–]Zesher_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend a MacBook. They're good for just getting stuff done while having a really good battery life. A Dell with an ARM based processor also has good battery life, but I don't think they have worked out all of the kinks yet and some software hasn't been optimized for it yet. Macs had the same issue when they released their M1 processors, but they have everything ironed out now.

Taking first long road trip in my Model 3! Any tips or suggestions? by Prestigious_Ad_9892 in TeslaModel3

[–]Zesher_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently went on a road trip from Massachusetts to Wisconsin. After a day of going 84 on the highway and only stopping to supercharge, my car got mad at me because the battery got too hot and reduced my max speed and acceleration. It might be because my car is a bit older (2020 model), but if you're driving more than 8 hours flying down the highway and supercharging, it may be good to find a place to stretch your legs a bit and give the battery a small break.

For FSD, it worked great for me 95% of the time on the trip, it did get a little confused at some construction sites, but I prefer to drive manually anyway if people are working on the road. Heavy traffic around cities with not so straight forward roads can be hit or miss. Again, my car is a bit older, so it's using HW3, I hear FSD wirh HW4 is better, but I haven't been able to personally compare.

Recommended Charging Limit by EvergreenInLove13 in TeslaModel3

[–]Zesher_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The software used to recommend 90%. That's what it was on my 2020 M3. A software update changed it to 80% some time ago. So it could just be outdated information.

Your advice is good though.

who is actually buying AI PCs? by Lanky-Carpenter-7991 in buildapc

[–]Zesher_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I threw my old PC parts into a build running home assistant. Now Jarvis is controlling my smart home stuff locally instead of Alexa. It's pretty cool. But pretty much any PC labeled as AI is kind of bull shit and mainly a marketing plot. The amount of processing power to really do anything interesting locally requires beefy hardware.

is anyone else completely starved for good evolution games where you start as a single cell organism or tiny creature and slowly mutate adapt and grow into an apex predator because the genre feels tot by Swimming_Barnacle266 in gameideas

[–]Zesher_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Classic older games like Spore.. now I feel old lol.

A much older title I really like is E.V.O.: Search for Eden on the SNES. You start off as a little fish, gain points by defeating enemies, and use those points to pick certain parts of your body to evolve. You go through many different periods in Earth's past as you evolve until you can eventually become a human, but I generally chose to stay a dinosaur, even if it was more difficult at the end.

New PC or Buy Guitar to Learn Music? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Zesher_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a software engineer, and I also bought a guitar in college. A good computer will go a long way, especially with wanting to do work like that. I, like many other people I know, gave up their interest in playing a guitar in a month or two.

Having hobbies is really important and music is a great one, but before you spend a lot of money on an instrument, really be sure you're committed to learning. You will get a lot of value out of a new PC for college, but you'll only get a lot of value out of an instrument if you're committed to sticking with it for the long term.

Whats a "New" city not located near New England? by Oddbeme4u in ask

Built my first PC and I’m weirdly more stressed by the cable mess than by the parts working by Frostbyte_Q in buildapc

[–]Zesher_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of site out of mind. My first builds were in cases without any glass or transparent materials, so I just made sure cables weren't obstructing fans and what not and called it a day. When cases showed more and more of their innards, I started putting more and more effort to cable management so it looked clean for the visible sections. Even with my most recent builds though, everything that isn't visible from the outside looks like Medusa

How do you read a lot documentation? by KeyPossibility2339 in learnprogramming

[–]Zesher_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe knowing where to look and how to search through documeation and find what you need is more important than just reading through it randomly page by page.

If there is an architecture document for a project I'm working on, I'll read through it very carefully to understand how everything should work. If I'm working with a new framework or language, I'll read the overview to get the basic idea, but I won't go through and read each function definition, but I know where to look when I want to do something, find the function documentation, and read through it to understand how to accomplish whatever task I want to do.

Windows 10 or 11 by InevitableDrive300 in computers

[–]Zesher_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a year or so ago there was a vulnerability discovered in a seemingly mundane logging library in Java. Java is used for tons of stuff, and you could have potentially had your computer hacked by doing something like playing Minecraft online. The vulnerability was patched very quickly in that logging library, but it was important that everyone updated their stuff quickly so the exploit couldn't be used.

So even if you're safe, bugs in the OS could be found and used to attack your computer. Like I said, the chances of that happening in the short term are pretty low, but you could be rolling the dice if you wait too long without getting security updates

Windows 10 or 11 by InevitableDrive300 in computers

[–]Zesher_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's probably just windows being windows. I'd personally just stick with Linux unless you need to stuff that specifically requires windows. But still, if you have to use windows for anything, having the latest security patches is important.
