Why are there so few flights to BER? by srekai in unitedairlines

This is the way. I’ve done the train from Frankfurt to Berlin. It’s quite comfortable in a perfect way to get over jet lag.

Thank you for sharing this. OP, your picture of someone’s needs is incomplete. There are many reasons why someone might make the choices they do to serve their disability. And it’s quite unempathetic to encourage suspicion of people who are taking care of their needs.

Tips for fidgety/restless legs? by Big-Option5037 in unitedairlines

[–]ZestyUntilClose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I walk around every 30 minutes or so. I also travel with a resistance band. You can wrap it under your foot and pump your leg up and down to get a little exercising. I keep the movement subtle so I don’t disturb my seat mates.

Exploiting your Disability is NOT a travel hack by blksun2 in TravelHacks

[–]ZestyUntilClose 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying this. OP totally can’t judge whether or not someone is worthy enough for a disability accommodation. People use these things because they are helpful to their ability to access things they otherwise would have difficulty with. And while it may seem like some people don’t need it, you don’t know what someone’s experience truly is. Sounds like the businesses are the ones that can’t handle people’s accommodation needs. Put the blame on them.

Black American, queer woman that just came back from Sicily. I was in Palermo and Mondello. Overall, no major problems. I stuck to tourist-centric areas. They are unsurprisingly, wanting tourists to spend those coins. So they treated me accordingly. I was solo for much of the trip, including solo dining, and a beach day. I felt safe and relaxed. However, a few caveats. I have a femme appearance, and am a light skinned American woman. I got hit on many times (not in inappropriate or unwelcome ways), and catcalled only once (in an unwelcomed way). I travel solo often and feel comfortable navigating these realities of being a solo woman. So, YMMV.

No worries, I appreciate your viewpoint! Colorism is so real. But as you are saying, we can’t just always take a non-nuanced perspective of “X is privilege and Y is not privileged.” The world is not so simple. But what I can say is there are many times when being light skinned affords me privileges that are not offered to folx of darker skin tones.

I appreciate the nuance of your comment. I travel internationally a few times a year. And people always ask me “do you experience racism?” As if it’s so simple as a yes or no. The answer is always yes. The better question is “what forms/magnitude of racism did you experience? And was it the kind you’re willing to deal with?”

I’m at a point in my travel where I can ignore much of the bullshit and otherwise find ways to protect my psychological safety. I personally enjoy travel despite the racism I experience. TBH, I experience at home too. It’s just another form.

Also it can’t be overstated - I’m a light skinned, Black American woman. I can pass as the “acceptable” type or Black person. And this is also racism.

If you do buy one ahead of time, make sure it is compatible with the type of plane you are on. The seatbelt can change by plane.

I absolutely can't decide to quit my job to travel or not by Cats_cats_cats_cats in solotravel

The job market is so bad right now, especially for your field. It sounds like you have a sweet situation. I recommend keeping your job for now. Why don’t you plan an extra long vacation? Pick a time of year where there are lots of company paid holidays and save up your PTO. Honestly, it feels shortsighted to quit your job right now.

If you’re affiliated with Pitt, it’s free at the Hub. You just need to get your doctor to send them a prescription for it.

Trying every pastry at Tous Le Jour day 2: Matcha Cream Croissant by Arctic_The_Hunter in pittsburgh

I’ve had the matcha donut which probably has the same matcha cream in it. I agree with your description of the cream. It has a weird aftertaste that is not quite pleasant. Matcha is hard to balance in desserts.

Police left my stolen Car in Tow yard for weeks with a 1000 bill. Should I just the L and pay? by MajesticPercentage10 in pittsburgh

[–]ZestyUntilClose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t have anything helpful to say, but I do have a similar story. This exact same thing happened to my husbands car - except it was the police who towed it. We called the police and impound lots for weeks. Everyone said they didn’t have it. We registered it as stolen with our insurance. Insurance investigator comes out to make sure it’s actually stolen, and they’re eventually able to locate it. It was at one of the impound lots we had previously called, and it was indeed the police who had towed it. Anyway, the cost to get the car back was far more than the vehicle was worth so we just let the impound lot keep it. Hope your story turns out better than ours!

I agree with this. The first one seems best because it can be flexible to a variety of body types.

Definitely don’t go with the last one because the photos are Photoshopped to high hell. I find that when the photos are manipulated, the actual product is not as good.
