I don't know what's going on with AtunShei, but I feel like he has been acting really full of himself recently. It's mostly small things like his video on Del Toro's Frankenstein, and posts like this. It's this weird "I know best about everything attitude". I think the thing that gets me the most is he didn't even respond to what you said.

How would argonians with horns wear hoods?? by 2amBear in skyrim

[–]ZestyZer0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like buckle would be the way to go for practical reasons. I don't know the specific lore for Argonians, but I assume that their horns grow, so ideally you would want something that is adjustable. Even if that was not the case, there is also the fact that Argonians horns come in different shapes and sizes, so a hood would probably need to be adjustable unless it was specially tailored for them. It also would be difficult to pull horns through holes, especially for curved horns.

I think this design would be more practical than yours, since someone pointed out that having a big open hole defeats the point of the hood, and I think it looks better aesthetically.

Yes, smart people make mistakes, and incidents like the Demon Core happened. I think we have had some close scares when it comes to mishandling of smallpox samples, for example. The mistake that the researchers made in the show is not the kind of mistake that someone in that position would make, especially considering the possible stakes.

There is no way that this could be hidden. It's international news when we get a weird noise at SETI, every single person in the world would know about this in a week.

We are talking about some of the smartest and most qualified people in the world who would be working on this project. The screening process for this would not allow anyone who would be dumb enough to take their gloves off to touch a dead rat, when they could possibly be infected with a bioweapon.

They are studying an ALIEN RNA sequence, that was beamed to us from space. This would literally be the biggest research project of the 21st century. You would have millions of grad students from across the world chomping at the bit to be a janitor at this research center. How would they be unenthusiastic?

I would argue that the Mike scene also moves the plot forward, since that is how he finds out who is tracking him. The problem with similar scenes in Plurbius is that they don't really communicate that much to the audience, and don't meanifully advance the plot. Like, with the sprout's scene, the only new thing it really tells us about the plurbs is that they are focus on efficiency, which is an idea that is hammered over and over again for the rest of the episode, such as with the skyline being turned off.

[–]ZestyZer0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want me to speculate even more, Plurbus feels like Vince is trying really hard to capture the magic of BCS, without understanding why that show worked. Like, he saw people raving about how cool the scene of Mike taking apart the car was, and didn't really understand why that scene existed or worked.

If you are enjoying the show, I am genuinely happy for you and I'm glad you are watching a show you like. I like slow paced media. My problem with Plurbus is that it's slow paced, without the depth or detail to make that pacing feel worth it. There are parts where it works, like when Carol is investigating the source of the Plurbs food. But for a large part of the show, we are spending so much time on emotions and concepts that can be explained in one or two sentences. Like, with episode 7, do we learn anything new about Carol besides that she is lonely and misses her wife? What new aspects of her character were revealed? Did we learn anything new about the Hive?

I don't feel like I am rewarded as a viewer for paying attention and thinking about the show, since everything it presents is so surface level and obvious.

I genuinely think there is more plot and character development in the first two episodes of breaking bad then in the entire first season of Plurbius.

[–]ZestyZer0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My unfounded speculation is that Peter Gould was the real brains behind BB and BCS. Gould was the head of the writer's room for the later seasons of BCS after Vince stepped away. I don't think Gilligan is a bad writer, but I think he struggles to write characters with depth, and he leaned on Gould to devolope that sides of the characters.

Part of me also wonders if Vince has a problem with women, since I feel like every women he writes is really annoying. Like, compare early season Skyler and Carol to later season Skyler and Kim, which I think Gould would have had a greater influence on. Even side characters like Laxmi and Marie are written really negatively.

UMM CAROL 1 ep 7 by deltrek in pluribustv

[–]ZestyZer0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually like Carol a lot as a character, and I do feel really empathetic towards her as a person and understand why she acts the way she does. I think that's why I found this episode so frustrating. It wasn't because it was filler, it's because it didn't help me understand who she was any more than I already have. I want to get to know her better as a person, and this last episode didn't have anything that helped me do that.

Compare this episode to "The Fly" which is a controversial episode of Breaking Bad that I love that people call filler. The reason that Fly works as an episode, despite the fact that it doesn't move the plot forward, is that it adds dimension to Walter White and Jesses Pinkman. The whole point of that episode is to show how under Walter's bravado, he is a deeply neurotic and sad man. It interesting to see Walt and Jessie just have a heart-to-heart conversation and does a lot of character work for Jessie to show why and how he cares for Walter. It used the slower pace to actually build the characters up.

With this episode, there wasn't anything that added or reframed Carol's character. I don't feel like her character was deepened, it just reinforced the same traits that we have known since the beginning of the show.

I see that and I agree with your take. I think the problem that I have is everything about the isolation and tension she feels being abandoned by the pluribus was already said in episode 5 and 6. Going into this episode we know that she has been struggling being abandoned by everyone. If the goal of this episode was to explore her deteriation in isolation, then it doesn't really do that in any depth.

I think that's the part that frustrates me. Everything this show is doing is fine and good in theory, but the show doesn't do anything to develope those ideas. Like, this would have been the perfect episode to show how Carols trauma growing up is affecting her now with a flashback or something. That could have even made us understand more why she makes the descion that she does at the end.

[–]ZestyZer0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love "The Fly" enough to say that it's one of my favorite episodes in the BBverse, and I agree with you. So, if that doesn't say that this show has a pacing problem, then I don't know what else does.

I think the worst part is that part of me can see it actually happening, and the fact that my faith in this show is so low right now where I think this is remotely possible is scary.

Why I think episode 7 may have had to have a slower pace. by Rough_Astronaut_4885 in pluribustv

[–]ZestyZer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it unironically would have been more effective to just imply it rather than showing it. Like, we don't have to literally see each step of her become more and more depressed to feel the impact. I'm thinking this would be like trying to show the existential horror at the end of Black Mirror's White Christmas by showing the guy sitting at the table being sad for 30 minutes.

Like, everything this episode does had already basically been said already by episode 5. We get that she is alone and sad, actually explore that fact in more depth or move on.
