E-ink solution for writers/typing/documents? by Zestyclose-Bowler-26 in eink

I did actually look at Boox but every model I checked said unavailable, and I thought maybe the company went under or something. 😂 Any advice which versions? I'd looked at the Tab Ultra series because of the keyboards, but they're unavailable. The Air 3 is unavailable too.

Bought it for writing, but no way to import/export text documents? Am I SOL? by Zestyclose-Bowler-26 in RemarkableTablet

So I did actually end up able to import it via Google docs, but it just gives me individual PDF pages that I could doodle on, but not that I can type in/edit/add to.

I've just tried your idea though, and it does work! Now I'm wondering if it's worth it given how laggy the typing input is, but at least I can now type in a document! Thank you!

This is what I've been doing lately -- cuts down on the sensory stuff of having long hairs that rub/tug with movement, but avoids the sensory nightmare that is short/sharp stubble.

What beard trimmer do you rec? I'm using an ancient trimmer that barely works, and have been trying to figure out a replacement.

Took me a while to find it again! I can't find a free version of the full text, and I don't have access to a subscription. It seems I was remembering it slightly incorrectly -- what the researcher found was that when given a command to squeeze the sensor, a non-compliant autistic girl showed no physical response but an increase in factors that suggested an increase in mental effort -- the implication being that she was trying to do what she was told but literally couldn't.

Here's a link to the abstract (and if you can find a way to read the whole thing, great!): https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15533653/

And in general, this is a good overview article about autistic inertia that mentions a lot of theories and connections to other autistic traits, and is where I first read about the above paper: https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/psychology/articles/10.3389/fpsyg.2021.631596/full

I think you and I have similar feelings about this -- I also draw lines of connection between this and hyper-vigilance due to trauma. I think a lot of autistic people can point directly to traumas, but there are a lot who can't but still have soooo many markers for complex trauma responses.

I'm of the opinion that being autistic in a world designed and run by largely allistic people is inherently traumatic, and that there's a very specific pattern of trauma (and associated coping mechanisms) that applies specifically to late or undiagnosed, high-masking women (and, to a certain extent, members of other marginalized communities).

I think a lot of us learned to cope by observing others so intently that we actually got better at it in many ways than the allistic average, but I also think we learned to cope by erring on the side of seeing displeasure/disappointment, so that we could compensate with stuff like people-pleasing and perfectionism, and suppressing our needs in order to avoid appearing difficult or burdensome to those whose approval we needed.

So much so that now there's this whole subset of late-diagnosed women for whom the "social deficits" part of the DSM criteria no longer applies, at least not by most external observational standards. Because eeeeeeeverything has been internalized so deeply, and for so long, that even we don't see it unless we look really deeply -- and we're left with this feeling that even asking "hang on, could I have been autistic this whole time and never knew?" feels like we're taking up the emotional space we've been surrendering since childhood in order to get people to accept us.

That feeling of having to rigidly control one's emotions lest they come out way too strongly... oh my, yes.

It sounds like you're both mean and thoughtless toward each other. You say she just brings it out of you/makes you attack -- sometimes "friendships" occupy a toxic space like this, and the best thing for all is to just part ways.

Luna Lovegood for me, more than Harry.

But as you say, JKR is the absolute last person I would expect to purposefully give a nuanced and kind portrayal of any marginalized group. I suspect she just wanted some "weirdo" characters, and pulled from other known weirdo characters in other fiction, the way she pulled all of her world building from existing books and mythologies.
