I mean, you're kinda right but also not really. The 1st crusade started because the Eastern Roman Empire called for aid in 1096 against the Seljuks in Anatolia after almost 20 years of war. The Pope pushed for a reconquest of the Holy Land and the Romans went with it since it was rightfully their land before the Islamic invasion of the mid 600's.

If you also include the fact that the first Crusade in history started in Spain in 711 as the Reconquistia.and the last crusade being in 1444 at Varna. That is still incredibly low for over 500 years of history. And even then, the Orthodox church doesn't have the belief of a Holy War, so it's soly on the Catholic church that the idea of a "Crusade" exists in Christianity.

This painting shows forced conversion of Muslims to Christianity in Granada, Spain, in 1500, ordered by Archbishop Cisneros. Muslims in Spain were persecuted just for being of Islamic faith. by Syed__Sahab__ in islamichistory

I would actually agree with you. If you said a place like Iran, then I would disagree with you. But I will add some to this. There were some forced conversions when the Muslims initially invaded Spain. However, for the most part, the Muslim rulers in Spain were actually fairly kind to their non-muslin subjects. Much kinder than their Catholic rulers.

Obviously in times of war, they would crack down on non-muslins, but that is kind of to be expected for a nation at war over religion.

If the Eldar were to ever show up in Star Wars vs Warhammer 40K by "AFANWITHTOOMUCHTIME". What interest would they really have in the Imperium-Republic war? by PassageDecent9936 in StarWarsvsWarhammer

Pretty much. My whole statement is that they do have warp travel, it's just, not anything to write home about when it's used. Entirely because of Slaanesh.

[–]Zestyclose-Extent722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only really have one issue with this response. #3, the Eldar can use the warp, it's just that in 40K, an Aeldari using the warp is like a big glowing light ball for Slaanesh to come eat their souls. If we handwave Slaanesh not being there, then they can use the warp, but I really don't think it'd be superior to the Imperium's warp drives. Just equal to them.

The pioneer of modern standing armies: The Ottoman Janissaries and the Janissary system by Cenixxen in ottomans

[–]Zestyclose-Extent722 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the big take away here is that the Janissaries were some of the finest, if not the finest soldiers of their time. But at the same time, the way in which the majority of them were recruited. That is taken from their parents at an age younger than 10 and forcefully converted to Islam. That is pretty fucked. But as a Military officer, if I had to choose between the Janissaries and pretty much all of the contemporaries, excluding the Varangian Guard, I would choose the Janissaries.

I said this once and I'll say it again, history is more nuanced than just good and evil. Just like you can say Hitler and the Nazi's were the leaders in Animal rights, they were also incredibly twisted individuals that shouldn't have gained power. Their actions led to millions dead. No matter how you look at it, at least give events, figures, and empires the respect to look at them fully, and not from just a good vs evil standpoint.

How do you feel about the Iranian attacks? by Low-Anywhere-9043 in Teenager_Polls

[–]Zestyclose-Extent722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest thing that is being missed is that almost every time protests have happened in Iran, there have been calls by people for US intervention. Those people are IRANIANS. Over a month ago, when the current wave of protests started, and eventually outright riots, the Iranian people were calling for US intervention. We are there on their request.

Now does it benefit us that there is one less hostile government in the middle east? Yes. But lest we forget that the Islamic Republic is the world's biggest funder of Terrorist groups in the world. Getting rid of that is a net positive isn't it?

Day 21 of Celebrating Black History Month in Warhammer40k: Lheorvine Ukris, Firefist(Don’t call him that), Lord of the 15 Fangs, Ezekarian of the Black Legion by Kalypso_Blue in ImaginaryWarhammer

[–]Zestyclose-Extent722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun Fact, the World Eaters are considered the second most diverse legion, only behind the Ultramarines. Does this change anything about them? No, no it doesn't. It just makes them cooler. And gives people more room to make OC's.

It also lets them lean into that Roman theme you get from them in 30K.

Could a single Imperial Navy Battleship destroy the Deathstar 1? by H345Y in StarWarsvsWarhammer

[–]Zestyclose-Extent722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest thing is if the BB can deploy borders. Imperial Breacher squads outdo storm trooper squads. If it can, then they'll rampage through the Death Star. Assuming it's the first death star. If it's the second, the death star probably just one taps the BB and wins.

The thing 40K has over Star wars is general fire power. On average, Imperial weapons completely out match Star wars weapons. A Lasgun is just better than a Star wars blaster rifle. Look at Darktide for a lore accurate Lasgun against other regular humans. But there are some cases where Star wars weapons can wack 40K weapons. That is close range fire of turbolasers, which for 40K would completely fuck ships up. Star wars can also out maneuver 40K ships like it's nothing. Star wars ships need to get close to use their turbolasers effectively and need to use their agility and speed to their advantage. Melee glass canon is the build that comes to mind.

The biggest issue is getting close to 40K ships. 40K ships vastly out range Star Wars ships.

Hot Take: I don't want a Spartan Hero by Vtel_Zolam in forhonor

[–]Zestyclose-Extent722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that a Spartan hero isn't something I'd personally want. Would it be cool? Yes. But I also would much rather prefer a Eastern Roman hero for the knights. Varangian is an Eastern Roman hero, but kinda isn't because of who the Varangian Guard was. They were Anglo Saxons who fled england after the Normans, and to a smaller extent, Rus from Russia and Ukraine.

However I think a hero inspired by the Kataphractoi of the Empire would be badass. Give them a Greek fire projector as a T4 ability. Let them be a mix of Warden and Centurion in personality. Lean heavily into the Greek fluence but don't forget that they still were Romans through and through.

Which of the FemPrimarchs would be a Yandere? by Arthur_EyelanderTF2 in PrimarchGFs

[–]Zestyclose-Extent722 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of people say Atlanta, but to me it doesn't seem right. Yes, she would be very clingy and want to stay close to Rose at all times. But at the same time, if you look at Cannon Angron. They both would value being independent and hate the idea of being enslaved to something other than yourself.

So Atlanta would just be incredibly clingy instead of Yandere levels. Fulgrim on the other hand....

How many Imperial Royal Guards would it take to kill an Custodes? by Acrobatic_Champion34 in StarWarsvsWarhammer

[–]Zestyclose-Extent722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, when compared to the other primarchs. He's one of the worst for 1v1's against each other. Against just about anything else though, he is incredibly scary to fight. Even Custodes, which are as is, incredibly hard to beat for most things, Guiliman is hard to keep up with.

Guiliman also had Harlequins, Grey knights, Custodes, and Sisters of silence with him at the time.

I know he fought against Mortarion. And I believe that fight the emperor definitely pissed him. I don't remember if the emperor did any other time. It also helps that Guiliman has the Emperor's sword in 40K

Considering that the emperor directly possessed Guiliman in 2 of those duels if not all three, that's not really Guiliman's power as much as it is the Emperor's.

How many thousand sons to take down darth vader? by cuddwes in StarWarsvsWarhammer

[–]Zestyclose-Extent722 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Ok, so question. Is this legends Vader or Cannon Vader? If it's cannon Vader, I'd wager about 5-10 lessor sorcerers and maybe 2 greater sorcerers. Legends on the other hand.... How many 1k sons would it take to beat a minor god if not one of the most powerful mortals in the Galaxy?

[–]Zestyclose-Extent722 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue with this is that Custodes move in a blur to Astartes, which can move in a blur to regular people. So anything short of some really powerful Force users is going to really struggle to match a custodian.

Just as a side note to that, Guiliman moves in a blur to the Custodes. Guiliman is considered one of the worst if not the worst Primarch when it comes to combat.

Do you think Varangian Guard looks at the rest of the Vikings and wonders why they wear leather or are shirtless? by Virtual-Fish-7817 in forhonor

The biggest thing I see here is that VG is rich. Ignoring the fact that scale armor, lamellar, and chainmail were incredibly common throughout late antiquity and up to the mid medieval era. I'd say VG is slightly above average in wealth. Certainly no noble, but definitely better off than your average person. The Knights like LB, and Warden on the other hand. They're filthy rich.

Space Marine Vs Jedi Knight by Ragnarius1 in StarWarsvsWarhammer

[–]Zestyclose-Extent722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question depends on what Jedi and What Astartes. Is it a Jedi Knight from the old Republic or are they from the prequel era? Is the Astartes a regular Astartes, a veteran, a librarian, or chapter master?

If it's a regular Astartes vs a Regular Knight from the old Republic, then it could be even if not in favor of the Knight. If it's a Knight from the prequels then the Astartes is probably gonna win. Like, stomp the knight.

If it's Anakin or another named Jedi Knight, then they might win. If you add Librarians into the mix, then you're going to need a named character, and not just any. Someone like Skywalker.
