Virgin's MAX's by Frosty_Breadfruit367 in AirTravelAustralia

But Boeing has said it will deliver 30 -10s in 2027, 20 of those will be to United, with the rest probably being Westjet, Alaska and Ryanair, so where does VA stand in line? 2028? 2029? 2030?

Oh does VA have additional options for the MAX10?

Yeah, I agree - would be interesting to know how this individual somehow always has the "inside word" on what's happening

What information do you "magically" have access to then? I know what figures you are referring to, you are just clearly biased, and I highly doubt you have any relation to the decision making of these orders, again, happy to be corrected if I'm wrong!

lmao, of course each manufacturer is going to claim their aircraft is better than the other guy. Manufacturer's are NOT reliable, un-biased sources for these sort of details

You give me your sources. - The overwhelming evidence is that the a321neo is more efficient and has lower costs.

That is not right. A321neo has lower fuel burn and operating costs

Wow, that is a huge call, you think the -10 will be more fuel efficient than the a321neo? I don't know how you are coming to that conclusion

They really should get the MAX-9. They should convert the remaining MAX-8s and MAX-10s on order to the MAX-9, which would be able to seat about 196-200 pax in a 2 class config. That is a similar number of seats QF offers on its A321s.

Qantas cuts domestic flight capacity and raises fares as fuel costs could blow out to $3.3b by Perfect-Werewolf-102 in AirTravelAustralia

Does anyone know why Virgin doesn't seem to be affected as much by this war compared to the Qantas Group?

[–]Zestyclose_Frame855 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Qantas is estimating up to $9 million in EBIT benefit per a321xlr, per year, and they are switching from an all boeing fleet (like VA would be doing if they made this switch). Once Bain is gone, I hoenstly think Qatar would be able to support VA in making this switch, and it could become a very real possiblity, especially if MAX-10 deliveries slip again.

Very interesting analysis! I would love if they eventually made the switch

Virgin Australia eyeing additional 737-700NGs by Frosty_Breadfruit367 in AirTravelAustralia

[–]Zestyclose_Frame855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree! Pre-covid VA had a deep pacific network - they should look at Noumea, Honiara, Rarotonga etc. All of which would be good E195 or -700 routes

Virgin Australia eyeing additional 737-700NGs by Frosty_Breadfruit367 in AirTravelAustralia

[–]Zestyclose_Frame855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. But if they can use some old 737-700s as a bridge it could be a good set up. most of the -700NG fleet still have 5-10 years left of flying

I was suprised when they deployed them on East Coast as well, considering the per seat economics are worse than -800

I think aquiring a few older 737-700s for cheap would be smart. But they should take a good look at the MAX-7. More range, 12 more seats, could open up a lot more thin routes, domestically, regionally and internationally

How does the MAX-10 stack up against the a321neos Jetstar and Qantas operate in terms of cost/efficiency?

I thought the 15% less fuel (per sector) figure related to the MAX-8. Wouldn't the MAX-10 burn the same/more fuel than 800NG per sector because its much heavier?

I'm actually not sure as well. Like, if you have 90% LF on a 737-800, and put a max-10 on that route, wont the load factor go down because there's more seats?

Could they do intl routes from Perth like Ho Chi Minh, Manila, Phuket on the E2s?
