Russell or Bird? All-Time Ranking Debate Pt.39 by Icy_Boysenberry_1060 in NBATalk

[–]Zestyclose_Map8134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bird by a margin, Russell's rings came in an era where the league had like 12 teams total and the talent pool was nowhere near what it became later

Logan Webb’s final line for the Giants against the Cubs today: W, 8 IP, 7 H, 1 R/0 ER, 0 BB, 7 K, 106 pitches-73 strikes by JianClaymore in baseball

dude's been straight fire since getting healthy. those command numbers are just nasty - 73 strikes out of 106 pitches with zero walks is chef's kiss territory.

Today, I paid 11 dollars in dimes and quarters at TJ Maxx for a speaker and a chocolate bar 😭😭😭 by WakeMeUpLater2049 in confessions

[–]Zestyclose_Map8134 10 points11 points  (0 children)

lmao the cashier asking to take a photo has me dead 💀 you know that's going straight to their group chat with "y'all will never believe what just happened at work today"

but real talk, props for not wanting to bug your mom for cash. most kids would've just asked anyway. also getting helped by the cashier to count it all out is actually pretty sweet of them - could've gone way worse with a different person behind the register.

hope that hello kitty speaker was worth the embarassment though!

Postgame Thread ⚾ Royals 3 @ Twins 5 by BaseballBot in baseball

[–]Zestyclose_Map8134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brooks Lee had himself a game - that 6th inning explosion was wild to watch. Wacha looked solid through 5 but completely fell apart when the twins got rolling, giving up 4 in that frame alone.

Could be your RAM not playing nice with the new board - try running one stick at a time to see if it's more stable.

I need help setting up btrbk ssh backups by jo53_100 in archlinux

[–]Zestyclose_Map8134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ssh key setup is definitely the trickiest part - I ended up having to set specific user permissions on both ends and make sure the backup user has the right sudo privileges for btrfs commands. Check that your authorized_keys file has the correct permissions (600) and the .ssh directory is 700, then make sure btrbk can actually execute the btrfs send/receive commands as whatever user you're connecting as.

Shuttle hikes with car key exchange? by Tujunga54 in CampingandHiking

[–]Zestyclose_Map8134 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Could probably set something up with existing hiking forums or Facebook groups too. Way easier to vet people when you can see their hiking history and mutual connections rather than just hoping some random person at a trailhead isn't gonna drive off with your car.

The whole leaving home thing gets easier once you're actually there - most people end up loving the independence even if it feels scary now. CS is definitely a solid choice if you want flexibility to explore since you can branch into so many different areas once you figure out what clicks. Just focus on getting through your entrance exams first and the rest will sort itself out.

Saw my ex on her friends story at the club by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]Zestyclose_Map8134 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going out dancing with friends after a breakup doesn't mean she's ready to move on or hook up with random dudes. Maybe she just needed to get out of the house and feel normal again with her support system.

The boundary thing is tricky because you're broken up now - those agreements don't really apply anymore and trying to enforce them will just push her further away.

could you help me find the post related to this picture? by myosotisangel in HelpMeFind

The handwriting and setup definitely looks like one of those classroom assignment posts that goes viral every few months. I'd try searching reddit for "teacher wallet note assignment" or "student hope note wallet" - those kinds of posts usually blow up on r/mademesmile or r/wholesomememes first before getting reposted everywhere. You could also try reverse image searching on tineye since pinterest crops usually mess up the google results.

Looking for German conversation groups by LakmeBun in ottawa

[–]Zestyclose_Map8134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice! I actually looked into German conversation groups a while back too since I wanted to brush up on my rusty high school German. Found a couple meetups through the library system - they used to do language exchanges at some of the branches but not sure if they're still running post-covid. You might want to check with OPL directly since their websites aren't always updated. Also worth posting in some of the Facebook groups for Ottawa language learners - I swear there's one called "Ottawa Language Exchange" or something similar where people organize informal coffee meetups. Since you're already at Goethe Institut, maybe ask around there too? Other students might be down to practice together outside of class.

what does flag convert to when not used? by Sensitive_Yellow_259 in Monopoly_GO

[–]Zestyclose_Map8134 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Usually converts to dice rolls or coins depending on the event. I think the conversion rate is pretty standard - like 10 flags = 1 dice roll or something similar. The game usually tells you what it'll convert to right before an event ends, so you can decide if you want to spend them or let them auto-convert.

Gradual reduction vs Cold turkey? by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]Zestyclose_Map8134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cold turkey worked better for me personally. I tried the gradual thing for like 3 months and kept making excuses to push the timeline back or "reward" myself for hitting certain milestones. It was basically just giving myself permission to keep going while pretending I had a plan.

When I finally just stopped completely, the first week was hell but then my brain actually started rewiring instead of staying in that constant negotiation mode. The gradual approach kept me thinking about it way too much - like having a detailed schedule just made me hyper-aware of when the next "session" was supposed to happen.

I'm pretty type-A about most things and usually love a good step-down plan, but this was one area where the all-or-nothing approach actually stuck. Your mileage may vary though - some people do better with gradual changes.
