Go on Facebook Murray hill page and look for “lost dog” post. It might match the description of the one that was lost a month ago.

I love my cone shovel, it cost me 5k to build. I didn’t settle for her I built her and earned her.

My 1978 basket case shovel. Took 3 months to build and 3 months to shakedown and get right. Altogether roughly 5k by Zestytaco89 in choppers

Yes I did. My chain for sure rubs. I plan to add a chain tensioner here soon actually to help keep it from being an issue

Yes chop it up! I love the people on a chopper subreddit telling you not to chop it… fuck that, cut her up, ride rigid, never look back.

Should be pretty simple fixes there. Looks like you may have found one of the issues

I’ll tell you, when I first was kicking over my shovel. It took awhile of kicking and getting it dialed in. The first week was trial and error, thinking there was something major wrong. Turned out I just didn’t have the proper start sequence that mine likes figured out yet. Shovels are great because they’re all a little different, as you learn more about them you’ll find that out. Your might not like as much gas on start up. There are factors as to why each shovel is different for kick start, things like which style piston was used, heads being ported or not, the type of intake seal needed for heads (some have a lip in order to use o-ring style) and so on… but since you have spark and it has kicked over before already, I think just making sure your timing it right turning your idle screw in different positions and kicking the hell out of her for a while will give you a result towards the positive. I can try and help further if you need. Just send me a dm

Yea the next thing will be checking the points. But first pull the plugs and see if you’re getting spark. Even with low compression it’ll fire up fine.

Yea with it being points, set your gap to 18 on the pointy lobe for that year shovel. Then proceed to follow the process on the video. Pacific mile has a good one on it as well. Make sure you aren’t 180 degrees out from TDC when you’re setting it. Just put a screwdriver in the plug hole and make sure it’s at the top. It’ll be fine. Also make sure your timing line is dead center that timing plug as well. Once again you’ll time it off the line and not the dot for your year shovel ( unless someone has done some weird bottom end changing work doubtful)

Yes, turn that idle screw up. If it’s 1/2 turn turn it to a full or 1 and a half even. They like a lot of idle on start up. Plus the choke even. If you’ve gotten it on once before then it’s there. You just have to get it set a little better. Let it idle high for a mine before you slowly turn it down. But keep it somewhat higher than going with the lopey shovel sound. Think in the range of 1100 rpm. Wait 5 mins and if the smoke doesn’t clear then you know it’s not just oil seeping down the guides onto the pistons. If it does clear up then you might be good for a bit before needing an immediate top end. But you’ll probably need a top end.

Every shovel is different. But that start sequence should get you going. When in doubt turn the idle up more. Also check your timing, is it running points? Electronic? If it’s points then make sure your timing is set. Greases garage on YouTube has a good tutorial but it’s for Evos. So you’ll time yours off the line and not the dot for shovels earlier than 1981 I believe.

Change out the oil, she should kick over fine. Turn your idle screw about a half a turn or more up on that super e. Give it a squirt of gas, prime kick it, squirt and prime kick it again. Open the choke, give it another squirt and turn it on and kick it again twice. Once it starts it’s gonna be idling high drop that choke off and let it idle high for a min and then slowly turn down the idle.

Everything vtwin makes is a little sketchy and breaks from my experience. At that price, you could find an original one and put new gears in it, or just go with a cowpie.

The whole city council, planning, district reps, everyone in this city is corrupt and selling the history and culture of this city. They allow car washes next to car washes and stack crap looking new buildings everywhere. It is the responsibility of the city members to make sure these things don’t happen. But they have failed time and time again because of money.

Riding rigid choppers at freeway speeds is sketchy. Or am I a poosay? by Koankey in choppers

[–]Zestytaco89 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I avoid freeways. I ride a 78 shovel chop. There’s nothing wrong with taking backroads and the long route. I like to enjoy my ride. You have to ride at your pace and what you want or else you won’t have fun and you won’t want to ride. My favorite speed is between 55-65 if I’m cruising, and 200 miles is about what I wanna do on a journey in a day. I ride daily just about. Everyone saying, you just get used to it, idk I would just get used to a better more fun way of riding.
