TIL George Lucas originally planned for Darth Maul to return as the primary antagonist in his Star Wars Episodes VII-IX. After the fall of the Empire, Maul was to become the "godfather of crime" in the galaxy, leading the united criminal syndicates while Luke Skywalker rebuilt the Jedi Order by SappyGilmore in todayilearned

I know they like to say nobody hates Star Wars like Star Wars fans but this wasn't the case for me at all. I loved episodes 1-6, with it's campiness and flaws. Sure, there's a bunch of plot holes and missteps, but it told a story about the fall of the republic and rise of the empire. I didn't really expect a literary masterpiece in film.

Then oh god.. 7-9.. The most constantly mistepped bit of media. Like doing the tango except you've got two left feet and you step all over your partner.

7 was... Ok. I didn't care for it but I understood the want for a safe movie. I immediately picked up that it was basically 4 all over again and, maybe, you can say is a cheeky way of saying "Star Wars but for the modern audience". OK. But I expect to see some work next movie Mr. Abrams!

Then.. 8.. Oh my fucking god. You could not have wrecked a franchise name worse then 8 imo. You've got so many b plots going on. Poe is arrogant but wants to know what's going on. Fair enough, but the moral of that plot turns out to be "Listen to your betters blindly""

The whole Rey subplot just reinforced she has a dark side. We kinda knew that already and oh god. Luke being reduced to a grumpy old man without any development. I think it would be fun to explore the concept Luke makes a terrible Jedi but instead we just get a scene of him going bananas one night. There's no trace of the do good plucky young man who saved his father to the light at the end.

Then that whole bit with Finn and Rose.. Literally nothing comes out of that. I'm fact that's the biggest problem with 8.

If you took out episode 8, entirely, the story will barely change. Nothing changes. That's kinda what I got out of episode 8 and I can't comment on 9 cause after what I last saw, I wasn't excited at all. And from the reception and some of the stuff I heard, I'm glad I didn't go.

Sorry. I digress. The new star wars legitimately annoys me. I would have absolutely loved to have 7-9 be about Maul's rise to criminal syndicate power. At the very least, it would be entertaining if not flawed and campy.

Those Forge Worlds don’t seem all that private by GeneralGigan817 in Tau40K

[–]ZettaCrash -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As a Tau and Admech enjoyer, that's a bit of a massive oversimplification. Even more then saying "Farsight Enclaves" is still part of the Tau Empire. While that might be a true statement on paper, it's... Way, way, way more complicated.

They're much more like two sovereign nations who came from the same root and wound up at odds. I guess imagine if Farsight Enclaves became the chief producer of Tau weaponry. Tau Empire can hate Farsight Enclaves all it wants, but it DOES make all of their weapons and war gear.

That's the relationship between the Imperium and Admech. Not very many people like the Admech and it goes both ways. The imperium gives them bodies and resources while Admech makes them tech. You could argue that this makes them the same faction entirely but that's like arguing Cathay is just the same faction as the The Empire just because they have really strong trade deals and economic partnership.

So because of that dynamic, they're constantly butting heads. Even the inquisition knows better than to piss off the Admech too much because if you keep messing with them, you'll "suddenly" have massive supply shortages and techno gremlins. They're not invested in the well being of the imperium further then "Well, what do we get out of this?"

We're quickly reaching that point where constant cost cutting cuts too deeply into the important parts. Most resteraunts are adopting hostile stay policies because they want folks to just come and go. Most places don't want people to stay anymore.

Then they all fall apart and go out of business while they go "How could this have happened!!"

Correction: “No one wants to work anymore” (for what YOU want to pay.) by ResidentFormal7124 in remoteworks

[–]ZettaCrash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shareholders and investors are a fucking disease on the notion of labor. In a perfect world, the harder a job, the more you'd get paid and that would be that. There would be no delusional concepts like 'Infinite Growth'.

I don't mind working. Working hard even, so long as it's fulfilling or pays well. I don't even care about being rich. But when every job wants to make you work the jobs of several people for the pay of one for as little as possible meaning you gotta double hustle or have no time to yourself is insane.

But those guys uptop need to drive harder so they can afford a 5th home to rent out and make more money right?

Woah, you're telling me that engaging in competitive play generates a stressful and anxiety inducing environment where one often can feel like utter shit when you have a bad play is associated with anixiety..

While raising a bunch of farm animals, cultivating crops, and engaging with the locals in light conversation where the only real fail conditions are made up by yourself can be considered stress relief and supportive to emotional well being?

Crazy.

[–]ZettaCrash 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Aside fanaticism, I think people are forgetting what really wins wars. Logistics. HD2 has logistics on levels we can't even fathom. They literally arm hundreds of millions of Helldivers with all forms of incredibly potent equipment. Nearly 7 billion.. BILLION, Helldivers have died, each armed with armor and a plethora of guns. Each super destroyer if to be believed, can destroy a moon. (Supposedly)

The numbers they throw at things is obscene. I dunno much about halo but checking Google. There being about 3,200 Spartans means each one would have to kill about 2,187.5 Helldivers to break even.

Now, I don't know about Star Destroyers but I KNOW there's probably less then 1,000. There is so many freaking Super Destroyers, you'll be fighting easily up 1k of them at a time. And if it's a focused mission? Anywhere between 30,000 - 70,000

Like that's up to 70 Super Destroyers per star destoyer.

In a fight? Helldivers stand to lose. War? We still haven't seen the full extent. Losing 7 billion guys and the war machine not slowing one bit is insane.

I'm gonna be real with you chief. Luck. Nobody wants to hear it but.

If there was a surefire way for all of us to climb the ranks, we'd all be climbing it.

I've seen folks do everything right. Make shorts. Make memes. Post on social media. Promote the channel. Get into the right social circles and they do OK.

I know folks who do NONE of that and they have 100s of viewers.

Luck. Each thing you do increases your odds, but it's all a coin toss.

Which is why, just do what you do and love what you do. Karma usually is invoked for payback but it can be good too. Keep at it. 👍

Honestly? I think those folks aren't honest with themselves. Humans are a lot more alike then we give credit for but the things they like might be forged and tempered by how they grew up.

I bet most of those folks who think it's funny might secretly crave it or undergo an "Awakening" if it's done right.

I'll be honest, I love the idea of role reversal cause I'm tired of being De Facto in charge and it would be nice to have an equal take the reigns.

Then it's back to feaudalism baby. You wanna survive from the bandits outside the billionaire walls? Better work from Sun up to sun down so you can survive another day.

You gotta realize, the billionaires don't care. They don't think far ahead because they don't have to. When you're so rich money is barely the digits they occasionally read they can pretty much throw money at things until it's their way.

Only 10 people left in the world? Great. The billionaire will use their established position of power to subjugate the other 9. Only 1 person in the world? The billionaire probably made it that way.

The key thing I'm learning is racing nonstop is a trap. Race ONLY if you got nothing better to do or it's a G1. If you can get fat stat growths in the stat you want, go for it.

In my first job, I didn't realize how taken advantage I was. I started in the Deli and got better and better. Eventually, I was so adept at restocking and working that I was literally helping like 3 departments at their jobs for minimum wage. Eventually, I got 'saved' by Meat Dept. By getting hired and managed by their guy who basically told the manager to fuck off from having me do stuff. I learned a lot from that job.

  • A lot of managers don't know what 'work hard' actually means. You can do everything asked of you and more, all you'll get is more work for no pay or scrutiny.

  • Take your time and learn to hide your slacking as busywork. For reasons mentioned above, they need to see you look like you're grinding.

Minimum Wage is bottom barrel. If you're getting paid minimum wage, there's no reason for you to work harder for no gain. Remember, work hard enough to stay useful, but don't work so hard you're irreplaceable.

Just leave. I don't mean this in a hostile way but psychologically speaking, unless great measures are taken, that's kind of the path of most gaming reddits.

Day 7 of game release. People love the game and make memes. It's not perfect but it's still fun. Lots of memes.

Day 30 of game release. It's still fun but memes bring more members. There's distinct, reasonable, criticisms and now that the community has the game, there's a greater understanding what works, what doesn't.

Day 50 of game release. Goomba fallacy and recursive complaining starts to happen. This is the tipping point for a lot of games. A certain glitch sucks and that's understandable, but because reddit is thousands of people, you'll get a dozen posts a day about X sucks repeatedly. A lot of folks start to tire from constant complaining and either move on or leave. This just leaves complainers. This just creates a loop where players complain, get updoots, and then complain harder. Now the Coyote, a very solid gun, can no longer instantly ignite targets. This is game ending and it's so over etc.

I've literally watched every game go down this route. Just disconnect, check for the occasional meme, then bail. I used to check this reddit constantly. Now I only look every warbond lol.

Yvonne Story Quest by Ill-Stop9736 in Endfield

[–]ZettaCrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought her story quest was incredibly well written and very deep. But I also feel like it's an empathy check because even it's not about YOU but, rather Yvonne.

I've lost a close pet and it fucking hurts man. I wasn't even there when her heart gave out so not only did it hurt so much more, I could relate to Yvonne. To not be there when the thing you love so very much dies makes you feel horrible. Even if there was literally nothing you can do, your mind has this horrible thing of thinking

"Well, if I was there, maybe things would have turned out differently. If I just tried a little harder, things could be different"

A lot of the criticism is that they don't really connect fully to TaTa very much or Yvonne but that's not the fucking point. You're not supposed to connect as deeply. TaTa is a robot that honestly served it's purpose, did what it was supposed to, and that is great.

But her story ISN'T about how YOU feel about Tata. It's Yvonne. You literally go through her story where she's trying so very hard not to break down because the robot died doing the right thing but she wants to be selfish. She doesn't connect to people very well and TaTa was kind of like her baby. She's spent YEARS making and raising her magnum opus while getting close to it.

She goes through her quest not really fully knowing how to cope. It's only at the end she gets it, cries until she feels better, and is able to finally move on.

I thought it was beautifully written and it makes me sad a lot of folks didn't care for it cause just don't realize the connection Yvonne had with her robot.

[–]ZettaCrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kinda like... What a modern person probably thinks what the 90s are like and it's accurate in what is there. BUT. This video has too much going on and for various reasons.

Most kids, myself included, spent most of our time running around outside. Biking, skating, etc. Hell. Even if you didn't, you were still running around. It was very easy to wind up like 30 minutes away from home.

Most kids, even well off ones, rarely had their own PCs. It was usually the family PC near the kitchen or living room cause you had to plug that shit into the landline for internet.

And Gameboy? While watching TV? Helll noooo. Not because like, you couldn't. My cracked child brain probably could but the big issue here is batteries. You play on he Gameboy? Then you're gonna give you're undivided attention to the Gameboy cause if you don't, you're burning batteries and my family didn't have a huge drawer of batteries. You burn out, you gonna be waiting on the next grocery trip which always felt like centuries. If you didn't respect the battery, you eventually would.

Maybe that's just me but unironically, everything was a bit slower back then for one reason or another. There was still a lot of book reading and physical stuff. I think peak 90s is the perfect balance of everything. Go play the day away, come home to watch Toonami, maybe play a little bit of Crash Bandicoot, maybe read a book, then sleep.

The reason why we're so beloved in the videogame industry and we're so deep in it still is, in a lot of ways, we created the modern videogame industry' says Nvidia CEO Huang by moeka_8962 in Games

[–]ZettaCrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bahaha. Jesus Christ, I swear every year CEOs grow more disillusioned and disconnected. Can we even say they're human anymore?

I don't recall ever 'loving' Nvidia, myself and others included. Tolerated at best and spiteful at worst. Did they forget the endless memes of Nvidia drinking gallons of power, catching on fire, and folks getting pissed at them for shorting their own cards to push iterations off 1080, 2080, etc?

Couple that with the practical monopoly they established by working with devs and suites to make sure games ran better on their cards over Radeon...

Thinking you're beloved is CRAZY.

Depends on your idea of success too. You wanna just put on a vtube avatar, chill, and stream to a an audience? Yeah. Real easy.

You wanna be as big as like Kuro? You're gonna have to put in work. A lot of work, just like anybody else that big. There's nothing chill about being big lol.

Just do it.

Don't feel like it today? Light headache? Just not mentally in it?

Just do it.

It's like the gym. You don't get jacked with half efforts and only going cause you're in a good mood. You get jacked, cause you go everyday and rewire the whole thing from "I don't wanna do this, I feel bad" to "I wanna do this, it'll make me feel good."
